Hiya-
I was wondering whats involved in fitting an HID kit to the FD....and will they work with the knightsports twin headlamps? Or would I need two kits?
Its a ball-ache mate!! :chat
It\'s not that bad if you get one of the kits that comes with the right connections to plug it straight into the standard wiring. Mine didn\'t so I had to butcher it to make it work!!
If you need two kits depends on how you want them to look. If you want all four lights to be HID you\'ll need two kits. If you only want two (and put normal bulbs in the other two) you\'ll only need one.
Quick note though - if you\'re only doing one kit you will need to put the HID bulb in the dipped lights. The ballast boxes dont like being turned on and off lots so putting them as main beam (so you flash peeps with them) is not the best idea.

I got mine from Clive, was a piece of cake to fit. Took about an hour for each side and most of that was fiddling with the headlight covers making them sit properly.
There are cheaper ones on fleabay but as Graeme has said they will need to be fitted properly.
I only have them on dipped, it works fine and nobody flashes me. Does look weird when you put the main beams on and the light is less lol.
Certainly a good investment, will never forget when I first got my car and drove in the dark and was squinting to see what was ahead. Its completely different now with the new HID kit.

Yeah, i\'ve re-wired mine to let the HIDs stay on as well as main beam. All I need ot do now is properly align them - I get great light, but only out to about 6ft in front of me!! lol lol
Does anyone know how much the kit from Clive is? There are some on eBay which claim to be a simple plug and play. Has anyone tried these? Also, some kits say they are for twin headlights?? Any idea how these differ?
Thanks,
Mark
I got a set for my ITR, they have twin lights (UKDM) was £50 plug and play and has been working fine for over 2 years.
That sounds good. Were they from eBay?
If memory serves me correct, the kits from eBay are not road-legal, with no proper beam-pattern. So unless you have a friendly MOT-er you may run into issues....

No some dude on the ITR forums.
Hmmm... Does anyone know if someone sells them on here? Carl Hayward mentioned someone sold them but I can\'t remember who he said!! :S
.. and as if by magic...... I just so happen to have done this at the w/e! I\'m not an expert ..... on anything ..... let alone electronics, so if I can manage it..... I\'m sure anyone can! :)
there were some nice little touches actually, like the oilcoolers being rather ideal to mount the ballast / casing ( shown in pics )... just hope they don\'t get too hot?! :Giggle
Anyways, H3 dipped beam kit, purchased through e-bay ( same place as I got my H3 kit for my 323F - no probs so far, best part of 2 years - http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/diane-shop/ )
Have to mention I haven\'t got these one\'s on the rx through an MOT yet but they look as good / the same and will certainly be better than the poor excuse described as lighting that was on there before......... no probs with the others / MOT time....... have fun! :driving

What bulbs are they? I\'ve got some a superfluous brand new H4 HID kit I\'d sell for £70 ;) From a UK supplier :)
not sure if that Q was directed at me... but as above..... KS units ( well mine ) are H3 - I got the 6000K...... my other set ( for the F ) was 4300K....
GLWTS :Thumbs-up

Sorry, was directed at the OP.
I bought a set for my other half\'s car, realised they were the wrong type, but only a few months after buying them, so was too late to return them! :(
Excuse the simplicity of my understanding of the hid kit wiring for knightsports twin headlamp kit. So if this has been asked already please be gentle with me.
I got the knight sports twin headlamp kit. I want to fit a hid kit as the standard light on the ks tiwn kit are not very bright.
I want both bulbs to be on at the same time yet still having a main beam. Is this possible and if so do I need 1 hid kit or two? again if so which hid kit is best for me to purchase to meet these requirements?
Will it burn out the ballast or anything with this configuration?
Hope the above makes sense.

Yeah mzte, you can do it, the standard light setup is that when full beam is on, dipped beam goes off. I got my mate to make me a wee box that automatically switches the circuits to change it. There is a simpler way to do it but it invovles hacking wiring to bits. There is a guide on here somewhere cos i remember writing on the thread. Search \'twin headlights\' or \'quad headlights\' i think.
As for ruining the ballasts, you should ensure that the HIDs are wired up for dipped beam. That way, when u flash someone you wont ruin them. (Ballasts dont like going on and off quickly)

Brian - that\'s how my kit is set, so it\'s defo possible...... although once you\'ve fitted HID to the dipped beam..... the main beam will almost be redundant.... and if you look at one of my pics you can see the diff side by side..... even with an uprated blue style bulb which I have..... they are still yellowy and lame I might hasten to add!

Interesting graeme - I didn\'t know they were like that as standard.... well mine certainly aren\'t?!... which is nice :)
Mine certainly are, sadly. And i\'ve just purchased an HID kit so i\'ll have to find the thread which explains how to convert the main beam to quad lights. Will post a link if i can find it... :)
Thanks guy\'s. Does anyone know if i\'s only pivot that makes the headlamp controller so you can have the sleepy eye style or are there any others?

Knightsports do a HID kit themselves for the quad lights. Has anyone got one of those and what is the set up?
Keith
Hi Brian
How you doing?
Love the Knightsports look but there\'s a few wrinkles to iron out first.
Please let us know how you get on with your set.
Regards
Keith

They do...but theyre a fortune....3-400 pounds as far as I know!

Is will this work with the KS Headlamps....I think they have an H3 bulb!?
Okay, so to update from earlier, this seems to be the most straight forward sounding how-to relating to the headlight conversion:
http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48199
I\'m hoping this will make the dipped beams stay on when you turn the high beams on!
-if, for any reason, someone knows how/why this won\'t work then please say now as i\'m going to give this a bash at the weekend!!
If not, i\'ll let you know the results...

Top find, not quite all of it makes sense without a diagram, but I shall give it a go at the weekend too.

Don\'t quite agree with this statement. I have a KS four beam light kit and the wiring is a sports wiring kit by IPF. It has three relays in a little box.
I wired it up this afternoon temporarilly and just two lamps come on with dipped beam and all four come on with main beam. All the bulbs are L3 55w.
Keith
So say you flash the main beam when the lights are off, do the dipped beams flash also??
Quote from: MarkoFu;593006So say you flash the main beam when the lights are off, do the dipped beams flash also??
Yes all four lights flash together when you use the flash stalk on the steering col when the headlights are off.
Out of interest, how do peeps get on with HID lights if you cannot use them to flash with. Does it help the ballasts to last longer if you keep the lights on longer when you flash?

LMAO,
Thats\' exactly how mine operate, complete with 3 relays in a little box!! I just made a ....-poor attempt at explaining it!! :Giggle

I would think so, they don\'t like quick on and offs, so I always keep them on for a full second or so. I never flash someone a few times in succession
Yeah, I was going to say, if the point in rewiring them was to stop them flashing on and off to save the HIDs then you have the same problem when you wire them and flash the lights when they\'re not turned on. If that makes sense?!
So if you\'ve got HIDs (I have a kit which arrived today) then is it worth rewiring them so that all 4 lights come on for full beam, as mentioned above? Or do you just have to be more conscious of flashing people?? Basically, just don\'t flash your lights and let people out at junctions!! :)
careful when your flashing then :2Rolleyes
The route I am taking is to try and sort out the beam pattern first on the dipped lights, even if I have to source another couple of lamps to fit in the framework.
The KS lamps seem so narrow on the beam pattern and give now light spread to pick out the ns kerb.
Keith
I was having a butchers on the IPF website and they do quite a few different lamps. I want to find out from them if the can replicate the lamps but with a different H fitting, say like a H4 so I can have dual filament bulb.
