Title: Pilot bearing removal... how?
Post by: Mike on April 03, 2004, 09:08:20 PM
Probably one for those who have rebuilt their engine, or the engine builders out there.  No doubt Carl will answer... :D

As the title says, how do you remove the pilot bearing in the end of the eccentric shaft.  I got the washer (spacer with plastic liner - read mashed plastic liner!) out...

Apart from this the rebuild is going swimmingly!! :D  Just about half way through the hours of cleaning and measuring all the parts!!:(

Mike.

Hi Mike,

I have used this on normal spigot bearings,
Find a bolt that push fits quite tight in the hole, then pack it with a heavy grease then hit the bolt with a hammer and it will hopefully hydraulic it out.

I could not manage with thsi hydraulic method  :-( .

I resorted to carefully grinding the old sleeve with a dremel or drill, and then breaking it up.
