So a standard 1990 S5 turbo, I have one that needs a rebuild, I have a T3 kit with the 360 thrust bearing in it and have replaced the journal bearing so far. Question is what do you have to do to get the 360 thrust bearing in? does the compressor backing plate need to be machined? do I have to upgrade the backing plate as well?
The brass 360 bit is ok but the stainless oil machined bit that has all the holes in it does not seem to fit anywhere.
basically I would like to upgrade the standard turbo to 360 thrust bearing (not BB) and need a bit of info on what has to be done.
On a seperate note the carbon(looks like carbon) compressor housing seal is worn, can I get these from anywhere?
I\'ve seen kits on Ebay for rebuilding Garrett T25 turbo\'s - you get all the seals and stuff - but never seen a kit for the HT18 :(
I\'m guessing the Turbo rebuild places must be able to get them - so that\'s probably your best bet, although if you do the rebuild yourself, the turbo will have to go off to be balanced in any case - unless you\'ve got access to that stuff where you work ;)
The bit I need is the oil thingy on the bottom right of the picture. Everything else is ok. Think I need to establish what platform these turbos are based on. Thought it was a T3 so theres maybe the problem unless I get the compressor and backing plate etc changed which I really dont want to at this stage.
I do have the item in question but see no way of making it fit.
couple more pics.
Right done some more digging and it is based on a T3
The bit that is worn on mine is the carbon seal as per picture, plenty of places in USA to get the bits.
