Title: Greddy SMIC Duct
Post by: johnm on January 12, 2009, 06:55:22 PM
I have just purchased a second hand Greddy/Trust SMIC, to use on my FD.  The instructions for the installation, uses the standard air supply duct for cooling flow.  Does anyone have a design or any ideas how to best get a duct that is big enough for the extra size of the Greddy intercooler?

Done a number of searches on this site and the RX7 site in the States, but no conclusion to any of the threads I could find.

It\'s a good question, dude. I just trimmed the stock duct down to fit and give me a base to work on and then extended it a bit with some carbon off-cuts. The intake nozzle bit could do with a bit of extending, which I had a rough mock-up for, but then I changed my bumper and the weather turned crap and I haven\'t had a chance to finish it all off. My plan was to get it all knocked up and then use it as a mould to make a proper fibreglass one or something...

...probably never get round to it, knowing me lol. I think there was an ally one that Trust did way back, but not sure you\'d have much chance of finding one now and of course it\'d do probably more harm than good since it\'s right above the rad and ally conducts heat soooooo much better than plastic....

I modified my OE duct to make it fit, helped loads cause the air was being forced through it and not going around it. (I have ReAmemiya one but they basically the same)

The problem I could see was the plastic cage around the radiator fans sits quite tall which minimises the room you have for ducting.  If you could reposition them, get a more compact design, have different fans to blow air through from the other side, or mount the rad different then you would have way more room to get more efficient ducting sorted :)
