Alas, just before xmas, I had a spot of bother with the FD - going into a tree backwards, whilst airborne, at about 30mph :(
As a result, the rear of the car is completely stove in, the chassis is nicely twisted, and the car a complete write-off :(
on the upside, I walked away without a scratch - which, having seen the wreckage at the garage after, is a minor miracle.
So, depending on what the insurance say/pay out, I may be in the market for a rolling chassis in a few weeks, as the engine etc of my car is perfectly fine.
Ideally, I would after something that doesn\'t require too much in the way of work (other than replacing engine/clutch/gearbox/wiring/other engine bay parts, perhaps). Specifically, I\'d prefer somethin that is either low(ish) mileage, or has had all the suspension bushes/pillowballs etc done (as this is probably what caught me out on mine). Not worried about colour (as long as it\'s the same all over), or whether it has a body kit or not. Interior would need to be present, and in reasonable condition.
Lastly, somethin down south (closer to Super7 Autos the better) would be preferable on account of transporter fees.
So, if anyone has a rolling shell available, or knows of one, please post ;)
shame mate but atleast your keeping with the FD :D
have a look around on ebay etc as well, seen a few pop up on there.
Check your PM mate, undecided what to do with mine but I have sent you some details of my FD.
Shame what happened but at least no one was hurt.
Sorry to hear of the incident chap,
but as they say cars you can replace .................. :yes
Real sorry to hear about this, Mr Chimp. Silver linings and all that, at least it saves you trying to colour-match that nail varnish!
Frivolity aside, I feel your pain cos I\'ve been exactly there. Jason did a miraculous job of frankensteining my written-off wreck and a good shell with knackered engine into the beauty I\'m currently driving, so try and take the long view and think of how good a car you\'ll end up with when it\'s all done....
Sorry to hear that Jeff / Geoff (never did know which it was). It was an unusual colour and was shaping up to be a nice car.
The main thing is your ok.
Funnily enough I was re-readin your \'project\' thread a bit earlier Nik :D
on the up-side, dependin on how much the insurers are willin to fork out, I may end up with a better overall car than i started with... although i\'d rather not have done it this way...
btw - when you\'re next at Jasons, feel free to have a gander at the car :D

Yeah - woulda been a nice car when done... It only needed a complete suspension refresh (for which I have most of the parts now), a tiny bit of bodywork stuff (re-inforcing side skirts etc), and a chunk of interior bits (gauges, seats, finish color keying, etc).
Still, I should be able to buy a shell in a similar condition (albeit without the tasty blended-in kit / custom paint job), and my current engine is sound, so there shouldn\'t be too many technical issues with creating another frankenstein monster ;)
Glad your ok chimp. How did you manage to get it air borne at 30?
Must have been some bang when you hit the tree. As has been said though, cars can be replaced and in some way its good you hit the back and not the front so you can get your engine transplanted in to a better chassis.
Hope your insurance are good to you
Adam
I, uhm, spun out on the east end of Airport way, Gatwick, and went off the side of the embankment arse first... Ended up about 10-12ft down the embankment, with the rear hugging a tree, and the nose snagged in a bush - which was the only thing stopping it from progressing further down the embankment!
\'Cos of the slightly precarious position it was in, I hopped out fairly smartly through the driver window (which was wound down), and scrambled up to the roadside. Consequently, I didn\'t get to see the state of the car (other than what I saw as I got out), and figured i\'d just bent the back slightly...
As I didn\'t feel much, was not shaken or hurt, and my blood pressure / heart rate were completely normal when the paramedic turned up 5 mins later, I kinda figured it was a fairly minor bump. It was only when I got to see the remains at Super7 that I realised what a proper job I had done to it - Corkscrewed the chassis, mashed the entire rear of the car, bent the passenger frame rails, etc... :D
Still - at least I can laugh (sort of) about it now - was pretty ....ed with myself at the time...
Blimey! Well, deffo glad to hear you\'re ok then, dude. I\'ll have to potter over to J\'s to have a look at your handiwork! I guess taking pics for posterity wasnt high on your priorities or i\'d say to get em posted
Glad that you are OK.
Cars are replaceable, though it\'s a shame it\'s bent.
I could see at Elvetham that you were very keen to upgrade it.

Got to have a look at your handiwork today over at Super 7, dude.....
erm, dunno what to say, really, you certainly did a proper job on it. Were there any panels you didn\'t dent? Lucky to get out of that one unhurt, someone up there must like you!

eh - i didn\'t dent the front wings (although they did get a bit scratched up...) and the roof was done by the recovery truck after the event. Still - i agree that I made a reasonable mess of it :spank
Still - I prefer to praise the design of the car rather than some potential big beard in the sky for my walking away un-harmed :D
I hope you get a car mate, it did look pretty smart when i saw it last year. its nice that you have stuck with the FD as some people might have called it quits. looks like traction control needs to be a prioirty for you then !! I suppose I would rather save the engine and have a trashed rear end and especially if you get a good payout to include \'a \'trashed\' engine as well. You might just come out smelling of roses, well i hope you do anyway. good luck on the rebuild when you find a decent car.
I have to admit i\'m not sure whether I will be sticking with the \'rex... but more from a financial PoV - I was considering selling this year even before the accident - given the way the financial markets have gone, I suspect my bonus + savings are going to be insufficient for my house deposit, so may have to use the car to \'top up\' :(
still - got a while yet before I decide, and while I wait I will almost certainly be looking to frankenstein my engine+other gubbins into another shell. It\'s then a case of whether I keep that one, or sell out :(
and yeah - if I do keep it, I will definitely be lookin at a traction unit. Dunno if it would of helped much in the accident, but for peace of mind... :D
My bad, didn\'t really notice the front wings amongst all the rest of the mutilation! :Giggle Shame about that KS spoiler, guess they\'re even rarer now!:(
You certainly won\'t save huge sums of money by trying to make a good one out of two unless you can get a really cheap good shell. Which isn\'t soooo unlikely given the current value of these cars, people are certainly going to break them more and more as the crunch bites...
With that said, yours is a newish Rotechnics engine, isn\'t it, dude? So well worth saving if you can. With hindsight, when I frankensteined mine together, I probably ended up paying as much as I would have for a decent twin tubby at the time, but it\'s probably worth a lot less now, so the margins are a bit tighter. But I think it was worth it because it was my car and still is (both of them) :3Confusedif that makes sense.
