Title: RX7 Paint/Body Work Process Pics.
Post by: Retro_Boy_G on January 11, 2009, 12:12:19 PM
Hey guys,

I\'m sure some of you knew but for those who didn\'t i have been collecting parts over the past months to fit to my EGI to bring it up to the looks of the TII. Finally got them all and then it was off to Interlopers for a fresh paint job and to have the parts fitted.

This man does not waste any time at all. He started on the car straight away and has been nice enough to take some process pictures for us all.

Enjoy the work so far.. I will post more up as i get them. :)

P.S. - Please excuse the dirt! haha.. It was a long drive..

Cheers man! :)

You can\'t see it in the pics but it has the turbo scoop.. which is awesome because the sticker says "NA".. haha. I\'m getting a sticker soon to put under the scoop which will say "Insert Turbo".. haha.

It will look pretty bad ass.

The wheels are sooo nice. Pics don\'t do them justice though.. they look a lot smaller in the pics.

The car is still going to be white in colour.. but i wanted all the new parts to match so it made sense to get a full respray..

The roof... ahhh the roof.. man, don\'t even get me started. Honestly, i think ill end up doing my vinyl idea.. either that or saw the roof off..

That would look pretty bad ass.. when they are clean and shiney you do kinda look stretched though.. nothing extreme but you can tell they had to be forced on! :) hehe

Some more pics for you guys.. Sadly the TII front bumper doesn\'t fit straight onto an EGI so Craig has had to mod the front splitter to fit onto the EGI bumper.. he is also going to cut away at the grill a bit to try give it a unique look since the TII one wouldn\'t fit (Thanks dude! :) )

The boy is a legend.. hats off to you dude. :)

It should do, People have been hotswapping them for years. The only thing you need to do is remove the S4 Support/Crushbar thingy and directly swap it for one from a series 5 as they are different.

I have been told it should have fit also.. i guess it must be something to do with the crushbar you are talking about.. There is no way i\'ll get one of those in such short notice i would imagine.. but to be honest i really like the idea that Craig has came up with.. wont be many around with the same shape mine will be after he is done with it.

Thanks man, but Ben seems to be the hardest person in the world to get a hold of. I\'m not too fussed about it.. as long as the splitter is on i am happy..

Anyone looking for a TII red bumper? hehe..

also with the turbo bumper, when you line up the 3 bolt each side the bumper sits about a inch lower than the wing and bonnet line, plus the plastic vmount shape ducting at the bottom stops the bumper going back far enuff... as iv said i cant see why it wouldnt fit, i even removed all the crash bars n supports n no joy...

I\'ve no doubt you\'ve though of this already but thought i\'d mention if its a case of bolts not lining up with holes would drilling some new holes fix the problem?

It would be good if you take those weather strips of the doors (window seal).  Its only one little screw each door and they just pop off.  Once you start the screwed end the rest just follows and you should not break anything. I also painted mine satin black as they do either corode or look shabby.

Right, Craig has now taken the grills clean off the bumper and added some support to strengthen it up. He has suggested i add some mesh which i think is an awesome idea! So that is that bit sorted..

Next comes the bit i dredded most.. the sunroof.. Well, its been taken off and is in quite bad condition.. I will need a new seal for a start.. I\'ll let Craig explain the rest of his plans for it though..

I say it everytime i post some more pictures, but i honestly mean it from the bottom of my heart dude.. Thank you so much for all your work! You have no idea how much i appreciate this..

Here are some pics for you guys. Enjoy!

Yeeep!, that roof looks like it\'ll be no end of fun and games, even for the mad skills of Mr Loper! Looking good so far, though.

As a side note, what a manly garage is that! Looks like it was hewn straight out of good hard Scottish rock with pickaxes lol :rollin

Me and James put new springs on a few weeks back. It\'s meant to be sitting about 35mm lower.. but i think the old springs had sagged so much you barely notice a difference.. I\'m in the process of buying some coilovers though.. So once i get them in i\'ll be slamming the arse off it! :)

Well, to my surprise Craig has posted more pictures up of the car!! I actually can\'t believe the job he has done on tackling the sunroof! I\'m overly excited about this as this was the most embarassing thing about my car.. no matter how good it looked everywhere else people always commented first on the rust on the roof! Craig is a legend.

Enjoy the pics!

Make sure alot of attention was given to the roof panel where the sunroof fills, Its notorious for rusting from the inside out and the four inside edges can end up looking pretty brutal.

Von - The trims will be going back on if its the same trim i\'m thinking of. Do you mean the one that runs right around the car and is usually black on an EGI? If so then yeah it will be going back on. :)

Remember after priming you need to flat it with something like 1000 or 1200 grit so the paint will bind.
Title: RX7 Paint/Body Work Process Pics.
Post by: Kron on January 20, 2009, 07:37:11 PM
Its not quite as conventional as that due to it being vulcanised rubber and not fibreglass. Its got alot of elasticity to it so you need to use a special type of primer.
Title: RX7 Paint/Body Work Process Pics.
Post by: interloper393 on January 20, 2009, 09:27:14 PM
the wings kinda like rubber, it flexes n bends for  past time, alot like the bumper... well i sanded it with 40 grit to remove the deulux house paint lol, then plastic primer which flexes, then primer, no idear how its guna turn out, it a prob be ok unless you really push your finger in  :D time will tell...

Looks incredible man! Can\'t wait to get some mesh behind that front bumper. It looks soo much better than it did with the original rubber grill on it.

Oh, got some nice coilovers for it too yesterday as i feel it\'s still sitting far too high even after lowering it on -35mm springs.

Pimpin!

Looking really good there fellas, nice to see progress pics as it shows just what can be done in a garage. Is that just cellulose paint? My white one is celly, nice and simple and easy to blow in if it has to be repaired.

looking good as always retro boy.

the only thing i question is a lack of of a TII front bumper, sorry to say, but they look much nicer.

Anyway, your car will be looking a lot better than either of mine :D

I actually purchased a TII front bumper but it wouldn\'t fit correctly. Once the front splitter goes on there wont be too much difference. :)

These could be the last pictures you ever see of the car as i think Craig is ready to burn the thing to the ground.. Hopefully it will be in my hands by the weekend and Craig can start to relax again! :) . I think it\'s also safe to say Craig wont ever be buying an FC! haha..

She is home!!! Just like to thank Craig for the awesome job he done on the car.. I\'ll get some pics up soon once I\'ve cleaner her up a bit.. Me and James tried to fit some bucket seats last night but they might be too high up.. :( . It would have made sense to start on the passenger side as now i have no seat installed on the drivers side.. I\'m going to try get them fitted tonight.

Cheers man.

Well me and James are just finished fitting the coils.. she is slammed to the max now! haha.. The front splitter isn\'t attached yet and my indicators don\'t seem to work now.. Can anyone tell me how you are supposed to get into the side indicators?!!?

Fitted a front brace strut and started chopping away at the back to fit a rear brace too.. i messed up a bit and have now decided to rip all the interior out the back.. driftcore! Should have lost a bit of weight i\'d imagine as all that crap they put in the back is heavy!

I\'ll try get some pictures tomorrow..
