Hey,
not too sure how to phrase this but here goes.
as you know, i will be getting a pfc soon (1 week and counting!!! ish) and due to gf wanting a puppy for x\'mas / early valentines pressie i have had to cut back on spendings on my other love!
so thinking maybe i\'ll just map the pfc on stock turbo rather than fitting new tubby etc now.
as i have no boost controller (i kno i should of got boost controller b4 getting pfc) what is the max safe boost i can take the FC until i get boost creep in the wastgate?
the setup will be stock turbo and wastegate, induction kit, fully de-cat 3" and HKS BOV. (will take fcd out)
how does the mapper know how much boost to map the car to?
cheers for any info / advice :wiggle
Without porting the wastegate, and with induction and exhaust mods on a stock turbo, you may well be getting boost creep now. If you are getting increasingly higher boost in higher gears and it rises with RPM then you are already getting boost creep now.
The stock boost regulator (which won\'t work when you wire in the PFC) will allow boost to reach about 8 psi on a standard exhaust and filter. If you go for the full decat, and have a good induction system - you may well be getting 8 or 9 psi now.
Best thing you can do is to take a vac line from the small nipple on the turbo and feed it straight to the stock wastegate actuator. This will keep the turbo on spring boost and a bit (the and a bit is because your freer breathing mods allow the turbo to make more pressure on the same spring tension).
As an example, I make about 7.5 psi on my 5 psi spring with the boost controller switched off. And the boost creep can\'t be controlled by the boost controller either - the minimum boost you can set is the spring boost - same as plumbing the line straight from turbo to actuator. If you do get boost creep, you don\'t want to port the stock wastegate, then you can either restrict the exhaust or intake to throttle it back a little - but you are sacrificing potential power ;)
thanks dave,
hmm.. looks like its nt as simple as i thought =(
maybe its better to install the pfc once i got the tubby n leave it stock ecu for now?
