i have been reading about the rx8 extended warranty in america, and the replacement of engines due to failures of compression.
is this compression problem related to just american cars or is it all.
im looking at buying a car just out of its 3year warranty and need some
reassurance that it going to last.
any feedback is appreciated.
Hello and welcome to Mazdarotaryclub,
I approached Mazda direct on behalf of our members to find out if this would be extended to the U/K but was told no, however in almost all cases providing RX-8\'s have been serviced, be they in warrenty or out Mazda have replaced the engines free of charge with only a fitting charge from the dealer if they have been out of warrenty,
If you would like to follow this link there\'s a bit more info,

Im also thinking it might be the rubbish fuel they run as well lol, if the car has been looked after and serviced you will have no problems with it :)
i understand the importance of maintaining the oil level, so what are the things i need to look at to know that the car has been maintained correctly.
Sometimes just by looking at the interior, exterior and the condition of the engine bay can give some kind of indication of its treatment. 1st impressions can say a lot. Service history is the most important be it from a dealer or local garages, basic I know but with a rotary all the more important.
Look at the condition of the oil cap, check for cream/sludge
Oil compression at idle and at say 3k must be good
Everything but the engine is fairly simple stuff to put right anyway but If I were to buy another rotary a compression check is a must, this will reveal not only bad (or good) compression but if the seals are on the way out.
I think one of the most important factors is to buy from someone who is reputable be it private or commercial garage and get some sort of warrenty written down.
does anyone have a third party warranty on their rx8, and who is it with
