Title: wiper options
Post by: TTMan on January 05, 2009, 04:30:32 PM
right since i had a good old drive up the M4 today i have realised how .... the standard wipers are at speed. are there any heavier or tighter sprung alternatives, or silicon coated blades that fit? at times all i had on my screen was salt and a stream of water not being touched by the wipers!! :eek

i have some bosch super aero blade or whatever its called on my fd... they are a little bit to long but they are much better than standard, but its the motor that has the problem a little bit of air or wind putting pressure on the blades and they slow RIGHT down... gonna take mine apart and re greese them in the hope they work better! the blades are the same as you get on the new vw\'s one huge thick piece of rubber... they clear the water really well!

i had some piaa silicon ones on my old fiesta ST and they coated the screen so you only need a couple of wipes and the rain would just run off anyway. will i get the problem of lifting with any wipers then if its the motor?

i just dont think the motor has enough power to move it at high speed, hit motorway speeds and the wipers fly up the screen easy but coming back down they are slow and judder :(

Guys try getting some Rain x and putting that on your screen, you won\'t need the wipers so much!!! http://www.rainx.co.uk/

The rainx stuff is good (as is their mistx for inside). You might want to think about a single wiper coversion. I fitted one to mine, and although it sounds chavy it is a brilliant mod. Clears a huge amoutn of screen in one sweep and no problems with it lifting or slowing at speed, and depending on circuit, I\'ll be well into 3 figures speeds in rain and very heavy spray - so well tested!
Title: PIAA wiper blades

I fitted the PIAA 10S blades with the spoilers. They are excellent.
I followed the screen treatment instructions and water just rolls off the screen above 80.
I had to bend the N/S arm slightly to clear the spoiler.
These blades are very expensive but a REX is worth it.

I\'ve got the bosh ones on mine & must say the wipe the screen well at slow & high speed, but like the others have said, slow on the return stroke with some juddering now & again!! This could be down to having the fins on both blades as normaly the rex only came with one on the driver sride, so this will put extra stress on the motor & slow things up a little with wind speed!!

Model I fitted is a 10S Super Sporza.  This is in Black with a spoiler.
They also come in carbon finish for even more...if you think that carbon wiper blades are hot stuff and will help you pull.
They also give u some stickers in Japanese that make the car go 10 mph faster.LOL

Where...tedious searching on the internet in the UK...for cost plus shipping. I can\'t find from where and prices may have changed.

Get searching.

Despite the titling, they are Japanese, not Italian

with regards converting to single wiper can you modify what is allready there to go single with just a new arm and some linkege jiggery, or is there a specific kit avalable? Also would it pass an mot as long as the wiper parked to one side or would this be a problem?

there is a single wiper kit on rotary art but i cant afford £100+ on a wiper at the moment and being able to see is kind of a priority!

on a previous car of mine i did convert a twin wiper system to a single wiper using an old citroen ax single wiper system and used bits from both to make the single system, worked very well if your on a tight budget cost around 10 quid and a couple of hours to do.

You may even be able to mount the ax wiper mechinism in the middle of the scuttle pannel but on the car i had befor there was not enough room below the middle of the scuttle pannel to mount the ax one.

without me going outside in the rain does anyone know if the passenger hole is dead center of the screen?

Tony does your single wiper conversion fit in the passenger side wiper hole or off center?
