Title: Another goes pop..
Post by: croig on January 03, 2009, 12:06:16 PM
Had my Rex for nearly 2years now and the last few months have been hell!!
Clutch went at the end of the summer, so sorted that out.
A couple of weeks later heater matrix blew, causing the cabin to be engulfed in hot steam, and coolant which is a right b*****d to get off of windows!
Then car began to sound a bit like a lawnmower when i started her, which is when i found that the water bottle had a slight leak.
Now she just wont start.:(
Rebuild time me thinks.

Anyway just needed to rant about it, feel slightly better now!

Happy new year everyone :cheers

hi croig you shore its blown and not just a fault or flooded
Title: Another goes pop..
Post by: croig on January 04, 2009, 09:55:00 PM
Im not 100% sure, but im guessing ive blown a rotor seal as i didnt notice the water bottle had started leaking, so i ran the engine till it basically over heated. I really do hope its just another fault, should get a compression test on it this week to really find out.
Tho it did have a full rebuild from Jimmy\'s in Jan 07, got the reciepts from previous owner. Ive had the plugs out and they were completely flooded, so cleaned them up and dried them, but still wont start. It turns over and sounds like it nearly gets to start then nothing.

did you deflood it before putting plugs back in m8
Title: Another goes pop..
Post by: croig on January 06, 2009, 05:56:39 PM
I did yes, well i rolled crap loads of blue paper together and left it in where the plugs sit for a while to soak up all the residue.

Just out of interest... Dont flame me people... but how much would you say its worth as spares or repair project? Cause if it has got rotor trouble im not sure if i can afford the rebuild...

Any thoughts/ input appriciated.

As a rolling shell with the engine, £1500. What clutch has it got?
Title: Another goes pop..
Post by: croig on January 07, 2009, 06:26:16 PM
Standard clutch, Hks Nur spec exhaust, Blitz bov, HKS hardpipes, Enkei alloys, and a reciept from Jimmys of a rebuild in Jan 07.

It did run but just seemed to drink a lot of water/possible small water leak from somwhere.

Its just that i really need to get a working car ASAP so bit of a dilemma!

Just re read my 1st post - its meant to say that the clutch hose went - not the clutch.

Quote from: croig;571201i ran the engine till it basically over heated.

Well it\'s definitly shafted now if it\'s overheated. You may need new housings and/or iron plates if it overheated bad.

Quote from: croig;571201Ive had the plugs out and they were completely flooded

Flooded with water or fuel?

It does sound like water seal failure, but you never know, it could be flooding with fuel causing difficult starting, and have an external water leak on a turbo hose or something causing loss of water. A water system pressure test and hydrocarbon test of the coolant will confirm water seal failure. A normal compresssion test of the rotors and apex seals won\'t. Take it to your local standard garage or get them round and ask them to perform a water system pressure test and hydrocarbon coolant test.

Well im presuming its overheated as the water level was low when i checked it. Thanks for the input Robbie, i didnt realise a normal garage could test for things like that. I\'ll get on the blower now!

Hi there logicalchimp,
I hate to say, but she is actually on ebay now - as i say i need the money and space.
Going to leave the plugs out overnight so she might even be a runner - tho im still convinced she\'ll need the rotor seals re-doing.
Am i allowed to put the ebay link up here or has it got to go in the for sale section? Dont want to get a flaming for posting in wrong section...

No Worries - I say it on ebay last night, whilst having a look-around for rolling shells ;)

Its gonna take a couple of weeks for insurance to pay out (they should have gotten the paperwork today) - once I get a reasonable offer* i\'ll be in a better position...

*hopefully they won\'t take the utter p*ss first time \'round...

Hope it all goes well for you logical, i know insurance can keep you hanging for ages when they want. Whats up with yours then, something that wouldnt just pollish out i presume?!

And thanks adib, i will let you know how it goes, it will be greatly appriciated! Its pretty hard comparing sounds etc to other peoples views written on here (me being a rotary novice and all!) so a second opinion would be ace!
Cheers
Craig

Hmmm - it would be slightly difficult to polish out...

Have you read the \'Skybus humour\' thread in the general forum?  you seen the pic of the skybus with the squashed nose?  well, my cars arse is like that picture, only a bit more so :(
