Title: Any help much appreciated!!!!
Post by: r6deano on January 02, 2009, 11:30:18 PM
Hi Guys,

Just joined up, I am in process of buying \'96 FD type r, wondered if anyone could give me some advice.

Car has been sitting for a long time (about a year) with no acivity. Managed to get car started, huge amount of heavy exhaust fumes (!) however only had car running for minute or so. Then it wouldnt start again. Later found about the flooding issues with only starting engine for short peiod of time, and I believe this combined with the length of time stationary, has truely flooded the engine. Have tried removing, drying and replacing spark plugs, gets close to starting, but not quite. Can\'t seem to find thread on flooding proceedure, can anyone help, or suggest what else may be wrong??

Any help much appreciated!!!
Thanks,
Deano

put lost of fresh fuel in it and tow start it would be easiest,  you may have to tow for a couple of miles,  just use what ever gear to keep the revs at about 3k ish

Hi Deano and welcome to MRC

should really let it get up to full temp before switching it off, only had mine like a month but im getting to grips with it, if you do only do a short journey, bring the rev\'s up to 3k and switch the engine off, as you switch it off floor the accellerator this blows all the fuel out the exhaust and reduces the risk of flooding!

i have flooded mine once! had to get my now ex gf and her brother to push me lol! got it started this was about 8am in the morning then kept the revs up for a bit and it was fine lol!

Had mine over 3 years, never flooded it, thank god.  If you have to move it, take it round the block for a spin, never start it and stop it again straight away.

Mine feels like a different car when it\'s red hot, like it\'s alive!!!

Never had to jump an FD specifically, but way I used to do it in my Fiesta (knackered battery and was too tight to get another one!) was to get in, turn on electrics (to turn steering lock off) and get someone to tow. Get to around 30mph, put car in 3rd, then dump the clutch. Should catch fairly quickly. With the FD i would imagine you should avoid excessive pumping off the loud pedal as you might flood the engine before it catches - although someone else might clear this one up?
