Title: which turbo
Post by: KrisD1 on January 02, 2009, 05:11:54 PM
Hi, I\'m looking for a bit more power on my fc with stockports.
Which turbo do you guys mostly use for around 350whp with good response? Looking to run aroun 1 bar.
Choises are :
T04e (57trim); T04S; T04R; GT3574 (from a-spec) or holset WH1E

I`d choose the t04r if it was my car.

Not sure now an R would spool on your ports probably slowly. Personally I would recommend a S

Greddy TD06 25g would be my choice.

Yea, but then I have to change my manifold again. Now I have a HKS manifold with 40mm wastegate. It has an T04 outlet. Greddy is T03 I think.

I would even consider the To4e. Spool is very good but my ports are big

T04e would be my first choise but I\'m afraid it will run out of power @ higher rpms.

I think lash was happy with his. I would not have thought it will be a problem. Just make sure your exhaust housing is the right size

Perhaps go with a T04e and then upgrade the compressor housing at a later date when perhaps the engine is ported more, thats my plan with mine lol

just wondering if anyone has any links for comparing a t04s vs t04r?
what hotside a/r would you recommend for a large street ported fc?

not after crazy power, maybe 360-400whp.
would like fairly quick boost, maybe 2.5k-3k

setup: custom v-mount, 48mm? wastegate, 1680cc 2ndary inj, fpr, walbro pump, custom cold air box, 3" exhaust.

thanks thanks :)

Sounds liek you have similar requirements to me.

On an FD block (currently getting ported by Era to match the tub) I\'m going to run a GT35r - spooly, super responsive turbo, should be good for 420ish atf or so. Possibly more.

Sih, can i ask why you chose the GT35r over say t04r/z?
what hotside a/r you using?

The reason I chose it is for the ball bearing core - not as bombproof as a journal bearing, adn the rebuilds will be more, but hopefully with the amount I use the car, I\'ll never need a tub rebuild.

I\'m going for a 1.06 hotside - I really wanted the 0.82, but decided that the 500 or so rpm spool disadvantage would be cancelled out by the extra puff in the high revs, and the ability to work the tub harder higher up.

T04Z is a fair bit larger isn\'t it? I value response over peak power. I\'ve spoken to so many people who recommend the 35r as the best small medium for a fast street car.

cool, cheers for the info :)
i would of thought .82 would be too small for ported engine?
i can see why theres so many threads asking about turbos lol

We have run .8 and 1.06 on porter engines and have now found the 1.06 to give a much better response, also not running out of puff!

The T04 range are very old school, they were designed to fit on diesel plant machinery namely dumper trucks. Because they were running on diesels where they don\'t rev as highly they use a closer vein, this will prove far more restictive at high end rpms compared to a GT turbo
