Title: Where is everyone getting their exhausts?
Post by: m1tch on January 01, 2009, 10:18:10 PM
Hi guys, just need to ask around on this 1, I am looking for a stainless steel twin exit 3" or 4" exhaust system, preferably turbo back, if not cat back, but with midbox. Where has everyone gone for their exhausts? All I seem to find are expensive single tip exhausts :( I am looking to keep the stock twin muffler look :)

i think quite a few come on the cars from japan i know mine did.  Try speedline imports on here they usually have some decent second hand exhausts at good prices

We can build you an exhaust if you like? Manifolds, downpipes, mid and back boxes, our own boxes are repackable, so you can change the note of the exhaust, but great for trackdays where noise is an issue!!

If you are using the stock turbo atm then buy one from SS autochrome - they are cheap and despite what everyone says, the quality is pretty good too.

Quality tends to be passable from SSA/XSPower/Megan Racing/whatever they are trading as at the mo, but from what i\'ve seen on other cars (mainly 200sx\'s) the fit wasn\'t exactly great, and they sounded, umm. Well, i can\'t think of another word, so i\'ll stick with \'sh!t\'.

Avoid Hayward and Scott, nothing to do with Carl below!

I have heard so many problems with these guys, and my own experience was no better!

Their exhausts look great, but what they do with the flow is anyones guess!  The car was well down on power, and fitting a different exhaust instantly increased the power by 20%

My personal Experience with the SSautochrome exhasut was good - for under £270 delivered from the states I got a single exit, turbo back exhaust.  Yes it was loud - but for me that wasn\'t a problem.

Hayward and scott from what I have seen are excellent. They made a downpipe for my brother and it has been perfect. Many friends have got exhausts made and they have been fine. I would recommend them. Don\'t buy this avoid them stuff. The downpipe has taken a lot of abuse and held up perfectly. Price was greaat too

And normally I wouldn\'t go for taking another company invain...but I can name 3 people that have had problems with their exhausts...me included.  I was very happy with their work visually, but performance wise it was dreadful.  One person successfully sued them for a bad exhaust as an off the shelf unit had more power then a supposed tuned system.

Hmm see, the problem I have is that I want to keep the stock look, but my current exhaust isn\'t stock :( its a custom 1 piece exhuast with a midbox. The problem will come when I try and fit a cat back which I am guessing would bolt onto just before the midbox I have at the mo, meaning I would have to either cut the midbox out completly or shorten the cat back system I buy :( Looks like I will have to go custom then, I will be doing it in 2 sections, pre-midbox and post midbox, as the current downpipe is for the stock turbo and not the new turbo.

I will need a new downpipe for the new turbo, so its pointless getting a turbo back system that has the old turbos fittings :(

Well that is your opinion atomic and your experiences and I respect that. However my experiences are completely different and the downpipe has held more than 400 horses for 6 months and it has held the power perfectly.
I know of several other people who have got it built from there running over 400 horses for a few years and never had a problem. And the price was great considering they had to make a custom downpipe. They have a good reputation with other jap car users too.

I have got a complete SSautochrome on the white FC and its been very good so far, noise levels is where I want them.(twin exit) the twin exit alone is about £270 but this will mate up with the single system inc downpipe.  they do not sell the seperate items so I had to buy the single full system and the twin boxes seperately, mated spot on and has now lasted 2 years without fault.  If you can get the downpipe then making one would be easy for an exhaust company.

My orange FC has a twin Racing Beat which believe it or not I picked up for £50!! bargain.
I do have a catback system (powerflow) with 2" bore you can have for £80,got 2 large oval pipe tips and will mate up with standard system but its the basis on which to build the rest from.

Ok mate, I will keep that in mine, will have a look around and see what bits I might be able to get lol its difficult as I will need a new downpipe, probably custom made with the new turbo and turbo position

Might go for something like this:

It seems like its the extra part of the kit the UK exhaust system is missing, its going to cost about £450 delivered, is that a good price?

lol :D shiny shiny :D lol Im thinking of perhaps getting that kit from the US ebay above, fitting it to my stock turbo, then when the time comes I can just get a custom downpipe to fit onto the rest of the system :) I think that might be cheaper in the long run, plus im sure someone is going to want to have a stock turbo downpipe on here at some point lol

Thats SSautochrome, exactly the same as fitted to my white TII. The names may change but all made by same people.

and thats 60BHP extra with the RB system !!!!  Thats a cost effective way of achieving some good and effective BHP figures, especially mated with a few more mods.

The 60bhp gain is from the stock TII system that has 2 cats blocking 99% of the ehxuast lol im pretty sure most of that power increase is from the loss of the cats :D For some reason the Y piece is less than 3" and I think the 1 I am looking at is 3" throughout, will have to check though :) I know Prof\'s racing beat exhuast sounds fab :D

Yep that looks like my system too. I know SSautochrome sell them. Mine is made by Motoria. You might be able to get one direct from them.
