I keep meaning to ask, and I keep forgetting...
why does the 7 use a throttle position sensor instead of an air mass meter to measure the amount of air passing into the engine?? I don\'t understand why they used this, as with the Air Mass Meter, the tuning must be safer and easier, as it measures the volume of air constantly, rather than empirically guestimating the volume of air during manual tuning...
I\'m sure there\'s a good reason - but I\'m stuffed if I can fathom it out...
i have several 2nd gens and they use air flow meters, they are a pain in the bum. You put a wapping air filter on to get as much air in the engine as possible and then have a tiny little gap around the air flow meter plunger for it to get through, also space is an issue if you modify. The TII uses a TPS aswell, the FD\'s have a complete fuel map using air/fuel/water temps/, lambda readings, boost sensor and tps to provide the right fuel. SO no need for AFM.
yeah no real basis on how good either is at actually doing the task but certain scoobies were always going through MAF\'s (mass air flow sensor) if you even had a dream about putting an induction kit on it so i guess at least from that point of view it\'s a reliability feature, or is that me OD\'ing on optimism pills?

Si
si, how do you do it? with the smilies that match the subject? do you have a massive atabase of smilies or something???:3gears-rh :3gears-rh :3gears-rh
Archbish,
Thanks for this thread :D I was literally just about to post asking how FD\'s measure air flow as I\'d remembered Andrew at Jimmy\'s telling me they didn\'t have an air flow sensor. I assumed they used a MAP sensor instead, and I agree TPS sounds a bit hit-and-miss... But on the other hand even if TPS is less accurate (and I\'m not saying it is ;) ) I\'d rather they bung loads of fuel in and save the engine rather than rely on a fragile MAF sensor as Si talked about. I always worried about my Scoob when I had my ITG panel filter...
Cheers,
Alex
PS nice smilies Si :god
who me, why thank you (http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/party/party-smiley-038.gif), i confess i was clutching at straws with that previous one but hey as you say i have one two smily pages in my favourites list (http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/deal.gif) lol
On the serious subject thou are, have or could there be any negative sides with this system in any certain or otherwise situation.......?
