Title: My FC!
Post by: mukumu kurubushi on December 23, 2008, 06:28:27 PM
Hi guys,

I think its time I introduced myself and posted up a few pics of my car :D

I know this was previously owned by someone on here, so I hope you\'ll be glad to see it making a return! This is by far the best and coolest car I have ever owned and hopefully I can learn a few things about these amazing cars to keep it that way.

My current plans for it? Not a lot needs doing! Needs lowering a little at the front. I\'ve got a black face Apex\'i boost gauge on its way which should help diagnose how well the current set up is running (air filter + exhaust - should be getting around 0.6bar? someone correct me if i\'m wrong!).

Once i\'m happy everything is running smoothly, I guess the next stage is an ECU + map. On the subject of ECU\'s what are my options? I\'ve heard the PFCs are the best but super rare/pricey?

Then once the turbo gives up, replace it with something medium-sized. I\'m aiming for around 300 - 350hp. I think that\'ll be plenty enough for a fast road car :)

Anyway, enjoy the pics:

And here\'s my 8" knob!

Haha yellow ftw! I did consider a respray to white at some point in the future, but I like the yellow its unique and it was done by Top Secret in Japan, would be a shame to undo all their good work!

Thank you! Yes I did find the old for sale thread on here, but I bought it from EDC driver Pete Barber (top bloke). I didn\'t quite get it as cheap as the original price however still a bargain in my opinion :D

Isn\'t he trying to give away his 3 rotor still?

ah wasn\'t the car done by another company too? or owned by one of the main people at top secret or something? anyway, famous FC. I love the  body kit, though i think the trim on the sides needs blending in to fit with the kit. Just my opinion.

Yeah this is one damn fine FC. Was lookin forward to seeing it at Rotorstock this year but I think Woodsy had to sell before then or was away or something. I was quite tempted to sell mine and buy this one when it came up for sale actually. Anyway bring it to Rotorstock this year!

Yep, he is giving it away for 8500 irc, the entire car! crazy cheap in my opinion :Hammer. That motor has an awesome sound.

Yep, It was previously owned by Dai-chan from Option. Also has a re-build by re-amemiya. Bomex kit fitted by bomex themselves, you can see my car on their website, back when it was in japan :D http://bomexaero.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=24_25

haha! thanks :Laugh It\'s definitely a conversation starter!

Took a while getting used to shifting with it! I had to import it, they seem to be quite hard to find over here but i wanted to go for something different, outrageous and quirky and jdm to fit in with the car. I\'ll have to get a wacky replacement gaiter to match!

btw noticed your avatar, good taste in music  :Thumbs-up

Ha ha, cool car man! Looks hot! Bomex kit isn\'t it? I almost bought that from the guy who was selling it on here until i got the chance at my black Turbo II!

JDM FTW!

BTW was there some issue with it not running full boost all the time? The seller told me it had a boost solonoid? problem. That and a knacked out lecy window motor, did you manage to fix them up ok?

Ha ha, its cool man. Yeah you pretty much hit the nail dead on there! I didnt know a THING about ratary engines or RX7s at the time (Still dont!) so i figured i\'d play it safe with a bog standard well looked after one.

Cheers man :) Yep, its a full bomex kit. Unsure about the spoiler though, I\'ve only seen another like it on one of the Risky Devil cars in the states.

I think there might be something up with the solonoid, but its difficult to tell, I\'ve ordered up a nice Apex\'i boost gauge to replace the stock one so i can tell exactly whats going on.

I remember someone on here saying I should be running about 0.6bar on a standard turbo with air filter and exhaust?

The electric windows work fine though! :D

Plenty of people who will copy the gaitor, I am going to get mine copied and maybe i will get them to copy a dozen or so and then pass them on to the FC owners on here.
The colour of the car is lovely and really gives it some attitute, I may be biased on these bright colours now because one of my FC\'s is orange and it does give the car a different appearance.  Its what the japanese cars are all about anyway, they love the pure bright colours such as the whites, yellows and the like and its only really the Jap cars that can pull it off successfully.

Thought id share the latest on my car with everyone.

I installed a Greddy profec B spec-II into my FC, after doing a bit of research into EBCs these had a good reputation for being pretty solid.

Having a free flowing intake and exhaust on the car, i was occasionally hitting the fuel cut limit from the stock ECU. My next plan is to replace/piggy back the ECU soon and get it professionally mapped.

Pictures! This arrived in the post:

And with a bit of help from an adult this was the result:

I havent properly tuned the unit yet, just set some initial safety/limit settings, but i\'m quite impressed with it so far. My last recorded peak was 0.65bar :)

Nice one fella. Glad your doing what you can yourself, just be careful setting it up as you could do damage if you do it wrong (at least I probably would!). I will have a KnightSports ECU for sale in the next few months or so if that would be any good to you.

Don\'t forget to upgrade the fueling, both pump and injectors as you will need more if you push it past the stock boost.

Cheers for the offer, i\'ll have a think about it though i\'m still doing some research into my options... Been thinking along the lines of Greddy Emanage ultimate :2eek

Yep theyre on my todo list at some point:).

I\'ve read that the injectors start getting close to their safe output at 250hp? Not sure if its the same for the fuel pump? but i\'ll probably be aiming for 230hp for this stage.

What would be the highest power i could get from the stock turbo, and still be reliable? Id like to get around 280 if possible, then if i want more then i can start thinking about pricey turbo upgrades :bandit

I\'m also interested in this as at this point I am running stock turbo stock injectors stock intercooler stock fuel pump. I\'m running nearly 230bhp at the moment @ around 0.9 bar. The car seems to cope fine with it but as always I would like more!

Twins would have been ideal, but i needed this quick for an MOT. as you can see from the first pic the old fujitsubo wasnt in the best condition :2eek

Im really happy with it though, fits snugly in the bumper and does sound nice too. Actually much louder than expected despite the name.

Thanks to JM Garage for sourcing this for me and sorting things out when HKS delivered the wrong exhaust the first time round! :spank:p

Post by: pdtaylor18 on March 07, 2009, 07:06:33 PM
Are you getting rid of the old exhaust?
Twins would have looked fab against that bumper, you can always put a dummy box in there if you wanted to keep the look. Going to be some rather colourful cars going around this year.
Title: My FC!
Post by: mukumu kurubushi on March 07, 2009, 08:05:32 PM
Yep twins would have been perfect, but there\'s not a lot of choice when it comes cat-back systems for the FC. Was pretty much this or nothing. Did think about a dummy muffler, but its not serving any function and just adding extra weight so i\'ll just keep it single for now.

Old exhaust has taken a beating and basically beyond repair, don\'t think it would be any use to anyone so i\'ll most likely be junking it.

I got an AP Engineering version from http://www.jappartsspecialist.com/ But looking at the site it appears you have to pre-order and they\'ve actually now increased the price!! :2eek:2Confused

I considered alternatives like the Greddy Emanage, but everyone i spoke to including tuners strongly recommended the powerfc which is why as m1tch said i paid a bit more than i\'d like to admit :yes

I think you\'d probably be looking to pay around the £800 mark for a used unit *without* commander

i love the pfc!! so light!!
dont tell me u paid close to the 800 for it?! *faint*

i seen jps on ebay quite a few times.. they quite expensive in general i found for the things i wanted.
(link below is lots cheaper!)

they are quite hard to get hold of, not so much rare! as in jap theres LOTS of ppl exporting to OZ and they take up all the stock b4 any other importer / exporter has a chance as they got a bigger market in oz for rotaries! so will out bid uk importers due to more $$$

i got mine from //www.jdm-racing.co.uk (yes it is the AP Eng version NOT one for FD!)
email him what you\'d like, he\'ll source it then get u a price then pay a small deposit n it gets put on a ship over to uk. then when paid in full it goes straight to your door in the price given. simple. :cool

Not yet, im dragging my heels with it at the moment :o

Need to do a few things beforehand like replace the dp and de-cat, try to fix that exhaust leak, and upgrade the fuel pump.

Then still need to decide where to take it for mapping, hoping to get a nice safe reliable 250hp at this stage :mmmm
Title: My FC!
Post by: pdtaylor18 on March 31, 2009, 07:15:22 PM
I think you can up that quite safely, I am pretty much at that on a chipped ECU,decat,intake,3" exhaust etc etc, you will be able to do a lot more with the PFC and safely as well.
Title: My FC!
Post by: mukumu kurubushi on April 01, 2009, 11:14:43 AM
Ah that\'s interesting.. i thought that the injectors would hold me back

I read on the fc3spro tuning guide they get to their max safe output at 85% duty around the 250 mark.

I remember Prof saying that a larger fuel pump would make them "appear" bigger, but im not sure by how much.

Still, i guess 280 would probably be the highest you\'d want to go on a stock turbo & IC ?
Title: My FC!
Post by: pdtaylor18 on April 01, 2009, 09:42:46 PM
Pretty much but to be honest a bigger pump is always a good thing and can raise the pressure slightly as can good wiring going to it if you upgrade that as well. Having a constant 12v can make a big difference at the pump.
Title: My FC!
Post by: mukumu kurubushi on April 02, 2009, 01:24:17 PM
A rewire is something i really should do..

I found this guide http://www.1300cc.com/howto/how2/rewire.htm it looks like a cheap mod but waayy beyond my knowledge of electronics.

May have to take a crash course in 12v electronics :2eek
Title: My FC!
Post by: pdtaylor18 on April 02, 2009, 07:08:44 PM
Its not really that hard and you can take a feed direct from the battery and send to a pair of relays for the reliability factor, your original feed wire can just be the trigger. But I suppose their are numerous ways to do it along with electronics to maintain that 12v regardless.
