Hi everyone.
Sorry to bug you with another insurance quote but it is doing my head in.
I have checked the threads so far for insurers but they are coming up with 2,300 with no mods declared!
And the car is modified so I am having a hard time trying to find a decent quote with mods, which I want to get on the quote.
I was looking to pay just under £2k, i am realistic and was not expecting £1k but £2,300plus is a **** take!
Any tips guys on how to bring the insurance quotes down, or any bargaining tricks?
I am 22 by the way, live in west london had licence for 3 years, no points etc.
Please help the car is coming in January and I need to pay for a stupid piece of paper to let me drive it :reallymad
You\'ve tried Sky which are sponsor here now / have a club discount setup? and Adrain Flux?

Sky said no because they want someone aged 23.
Adrian Flux? Who said they were good.
They quoted me £4000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
^ as above Adrian Flux are a rip off !

That\'s why. If you want a high performance car at a young age you got to suck it up and pay out.
Mine was bout £2500ish when I was your age. Bl00dy cheap now though :rollin
I had to wait till I was 25 to insure anything over 200bhp , as anything younger I couldnt even get insurance let alone a high quote.
I would get your parents to insure it in their name and add you as a second driver, then you will probably get a 1k quote
Im 22 with a 93 red fd3s with basic mods , With sky insurance and paying 1100 fully comp
I dont see why they wont quote you . I got this insurance in November
Try A-Plan (http://www.aplan.co.uk/) they worked really hard for me when I had an awkward situation. I am an old fogey though.

Thats insurance fronting, basicaly you may aswell have no insurance at all.

How? I would have still thought the insurance is valid as you are a second driver?
Are you saying if I am a second driver the insurance will not be valid?
I am only going to drive it on weekends anyway as I am too busy with work during the week.

Don\'t know how you managed it, they said I have to be over 23.

Not if his Dad for example actually drives the car.

Oh he will!!!! Lol.
Another option is to put my bro on as the main driver. He drives a rex. In fact he has posted on this thread.
I got a quote from elephant with my bro as the main driver and me as second with basic performance mods and exterior mods declared for £2,000, but would like to try and get less than this if I could.
That means I can spend more money on the car!
yeah apologies! I forget my age - 31 now! :2Rolleyes
I have 2 cars insured with A FLux and have been with them many years ( I suppose this all helps ).
I renewed in Nov too..... certainly not a Rip off IMO - they took my insurance quote from Sky and beat it! :Thumbs-up
Anyway - it differs for each individual and unfortunately your age in the major concern here....
it was the same for us when we were that age and as peeps say above, you want a performance car at that age... your gonna have to pay for it... unless your some sort of named driver under your parents policy with limited mileage and all that chat.....
Good luck :Thumbs-up
The main driver has to be the policy holder ie uses it the most. In the event of an accident they will invaildate your insurance, they use an excuse not to pay up.
So in summary Rzla make sure your Dad or Bro does more mileage then you in the car

Lol it is technically my dads car!
But on a serious note how would the insurance company know who drives the car more?
What basis do they have to say who has driven more? If you are a named driver than you must be covered, otherwise what is the point in having named drivers?
Just remember - Big Brother is always watching you :)

Try AON as they are very good for me. One way to get the insurance down is to declare only 4K miles a year, i only do that anyway so it suits me. other than that keep trying, read some of the many searches on this forum for insurance and hopefully you will get a good quote from someone.
getting yourself on someone elses insurance is not going to get you any NCB and its this that you want to build up.
Cool well I am going to keep looking and get the car insured in my name.
Any insurance companys for young drivers would be of help, so any suggestions welcome.
Thanks
i will be renewing my insurance early next year but might wait until in 23 (march) and see if i can get it any cheaper, was with AF at £1600 with 9k limited milage, no points etc, 1 yncb.
long story short they screwed me over, got a discount but still ended up paying, what worked out to be just over 2k a year :Grrr
interested to know who you go with.

Im not sure tbh , I think its because ive been them for 3 years and the car before the fd was a 350bhp 200sx S14a + Ive got 4 years no claims and a clean lisence , Its garaged and in a good area too . I think it all helps
Hope you sort something out

I was about to say exactly the same thing!
Not only do the insurance guys look at forums like this but they swap information between them. So of you have already tried to get quotes for the car in your name and then you start trying to get quotes in your Dads name, on the same car they may well pick that up.
Oh to be 22 again - this year my car tax will be more than my insurance! :eek
I got my insurance with a company called Peter Best. It is classed as a second vehicle because I use a van for work, limited millage and I got mine for £300!!!:Thumbs-up
Hope you find some insurance. Eddiedwards
I am not really going to insure the car in my dads name.
Was only a joke lol.
It is going to be in my name but was just asking if anyone knew any good tips to bring it down/any good companies to try for young drivers.
Karl I will let you know, I will most likely be getting insurance in January, however i might do some work to the car for a month or so and get insured in February time. But will let you know for sure.
They like ripping off people on insurance that\'s for sure.
I\'m 22, and at 21 I had my rex insured for 550GBP a year fully comp, breakdown, legal cover, the works. (coilovers, GT-AD widebody kit, Nur spec Exhaust)
It was with a company called Peter Best Insurance, because of my age I was the only person allowed to be insured on the car and it had a limited mileage policy on it. The reason it was so cheap is because its my second car and not my daily driver.
Worth a try.

Ah just saw this.
Also worth noting that they would insure me on anything above a 2 litre, so it helped that mine was an import registered as a 1.3, if it isnt then you wont have much luck.

That was meant to say \'Wouldn\'t\' -insure me on anything above a 2 litre
so have they based the premium on a 1.3?? if so then your insurance may well be invalid as its registered as a 1.3 tax wise but its still a 2.6
The point about the engine size is valid - it\'s one thing \'flaunting\' it for tax purposes if it was originally registered as a 1308cc - but quite another to be insured as it. To be in the safe side i\'d ask the insurers to confirm in writing that they acknowledge the physical engine volume is 1308cc but its actually akin to 2616c. I asked sky to do this last year (they only had the 2354cc on file) and they did it no problem.
In order to bring premium down, try simple things - weekend use only (limited mileage), Cat 1 security, garaged, do an advanced drivers course, etc etc
Good luck
Graeme
I would not take the risk insuring it as a 1.3 i don\'t think.
It must invalidate the insurance surely?
Can someone with more knowledge shed some light?
Sky have a policy that u need to have rx7 or similar experience for a year. I was with Noel dazley this year 22 1ncb no claims though. Driving 5 years. And mine was 1600 with 1 k excess. 5k millage.
Now I\'m getting quotes of 1200-1400 with a few mods and only a 400 excess.
All cos I have that magic 1 year.
The first year I took a risk and told them I had a race licence and it helped. Also that I have driven powerful cars in the past.
Sky even said I can go single turbo to around 450bhp and it will only be about 1500-1600 so I will be doing that!
