Title: starting issues :(
Post by: MaLicE on December 19, 2008, 07:49:38 AM
got a problem, when the car has been stood for a few hours or a day, or after i have driven it and let it cool, sometimes when i go to start, stick the key in and turn i get lots of fast clicks! all the dash lights flash, and it doesnt turn over... after a few trys 90% of the time it will turn over and fire and start fine, its just annoying and seems to be taking more and more trys to get it to turn over...

the beep beeep beeeep you get when you start if its just clicking seems to like die and sloooow down, then all of a sudden it will turn over and fire fine, idles perfect etc no running problems just the clicking... im thinking starter motor?? or could it be battery or eathing issues?? anyone had this problem before?

any ideas on tests or fixes?

hope someone can help :)

*edit* its a 93 fd btw

Sounds like an electrical problem. The clicking is the solenoid on the start motor. The dash lights flashing and beeping slowing down point to a lack of battery power. However, it starts eventually, so it\'s likely to be either a dodgy battery or bad wiring somewhere I would think.

Bad earth I reckon.
I have a variation on this - sometimes Wheni got to start i just get a *thunk* and nothing more. Try again and starts up first time - i think that\'s a jamming starter motor though.

Check your battery terminals are tight, If they are ok then its likely to need a new battery. You could try putting yours on charge for a good while and see if it stops the problem until the battery loses some charge again.

will check the battery the guy i got it from said he had problems with the terminals at times as they didnt seem to fit propperly... so maybe new battery time also... its a shame its got a trust/greddy battery on it lol for that little bit of jdm coolness

fixed my issues for now, was the battery terminals they seem a bit to small for the clamps, so gonna look at replacing the clamps or getting some sleeves for the terminals.

Sounds like the battery terminals are not quite on properly tbh mate

terminals on the battery seem to be like 2mm too small for the clamps that are on the wires that attach to them... thinking it might be better to get some new clamps and put them on, also dont really seem to be any good earths on it either...

where are the recomended locations for earths or extra earths?
