It\'s all tunned and ready for a thrashing :yes
Only got the car back on thursday. And the weather has not been on my side.
I\'ll list what I can remember.
Its been rebuilt with a half bridge port, Cosmo inlet manifold, Cosmo plenum, FD throttle body, a nice thick Forge intercooler, Koyorad radiator and FD fans.
Had it mapped and it made 265@wheels at 0.5bar :mmmm
(http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y185/chrismvts/Our%20Cars/DSC00771-1.jpg)
And Tim gave me a little toy to play with for the time being.
Thanks Tim
Wow, that will feel seriously quick. My FB only has about 100bhp at the wheels and is plenty of fun !
Enjoy when the weather gets dryer :D Some very nice figures for only 0.5bar ! Is this the start for boost level ??
Shaun
I\'d say \'xloody xell\' except the forum server will blank me! So \'cor blimy mate\' will have to do.
That should be fairly brisk ;)
Have fun with it - and try not to do a Tim (ie don\'t prang it!)
:wave
Quote from: shaunwil;565057Is this the start for boost level ??
Shaun
I can\'t go any high because the turbo is to small!
It cant Flow the air to fill the large intercooler and piping as well as feeding the ported engine.
It really struggles to spool up. It only gets on positve boost till 4k, by 5k it\'s only at 0.3bar and 0.5 bar at 6k.
This is only a temporary turbo though, till I get the bigger one hopefully this time next year.
your description of the boost sounds like the turbo is too big rather than too small.
It\'s a turbnetics turbo. Stock turbine with a bigger exhaust
housing and diffrent bearing apparently.
very nice build look forward to seeing it next year :god

Little update.
A rollcage is in order I think :3gears-rh
(http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y185/chrismvts/Our%20Cars/DSC00884.jpg)
Hoping that this will be fitted over christmas. Aswell as a cage and respray in black. Realistically looking at 450@wheels at 1.3bar.
aarrrrrrrr Can\'t stop looking at it. I want it now :InLove
Pete.
That turbo is bloooddy BIGGGGGGGGGGG
Nice one. Nice, ahem, colour, by the look of things too..
"Tim" is RX Motors I\'m guessing?
Do think about the cage though mate, if you\'re driving it mostly with a helmet on then ace and a good idea, but if you\'re cruising about they do horrible things to your head in an accident..
All the best,
Stacy
Have not been on here for a while so I thought I will let you know how the car is getting on.
The car is being worked on at AtomicRex and they are doing a fantastic job. The Cage is in, seam welded, 4 pots are being fitted, camber kit and strengthened top mounts are on. new spring and dampeners are on, a new dash board and SPA gauges.... list goes on and on. Oh and the turbo :Giggle
Just about to start work on the spoiler, bonnet vents and wheel arches. I will post updates on the progress.
Will be ready for May and I can\'t wait to see it sitting on 265 wide rubber.
Only have two pics but I will get more and update you next time I go.

Holy Crap that is gonig to be one quick car!!!!! good luck with it :)
that already looks great and had some v impressive figures to boot!
When that\'s all together with that new tub it\'s gonna be offensively quick!! Awesome ;)
You going to enter the Nitto challenge Pete?
Very, Very Cool !
Shaun
Can\'t wait to get it back and thrash it around track.

Slight update.
Just waiting on the fitting of the fuel rail, injectors and the electric water pump.

Incredible!
Lookin good Pete
Have got a bit further on the project. Pretty much everything is ready to go back together and in the car . I\'m waiting on the body styling now.
Started off with trying FD arches but they seemed a bit too rounded. I thought I might as well buy a fd if I\'m going to try and make it look like one.

Pete.
Your car needs a lairy colour, lambo orange maybe like pd taylors series 2 convertible 4 sale, in cars 4 sale section.

lambo orange.

Orange! exactly what Atomic rex think. But that\'s a bit too loud for me.
White or black is a possibility.
Tim you have any more pics of that car mate?
Pete
Yeah somewhere mate bare with me I had loads of it
Here ya go....one of my personal all time favourites.
http://www.rx7club.com/album.php?albumid=2102
Just been on rx7club and stumbled across this which might be of interest.
http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=923396
Thought Id better stick an update on the thread.
We have been working through the new bodywork. Having gone through a number of designs that Pete liked, we settled on a set of arches for the rear and a front skirt/spoiler along with wide arches at the front, and finally a set of side skirts to blend the whole thing together.
Having set the wheels to the required width (72" at the front and 73.5" at the rear). We then set the ride height and checked the travel front and rear along with the articulation of the wheel on full lock and bump.
I think you will agree it looks quite wide!
Once the design was agreed, time to start chopping out the rear arch! Guess what....it had a little bit of rust! Plus there is a little bit of previous light crash damage, something to be expected in a car of this age....but not a problem as we were cutting it all out!
As you can see we\'ve already had to repair the sill, as this was rotten :(
(http://www.atomicrex.co.uk/downloads/Petes%20FB/IMG_1056.JPG)
New inner arch

Bit more rust to fix!
Time to cut out the front arch :)
This is what the o/s now looks like :)
Will take some photos tomorrow of the front end progress, the bumper was measured up, made a new oil cooler bracket and will be fitting that tomorrow.
Thats looking pretty brutal!
That Fb scares me.
Looks as if it will have loads of grunt!
Another Fb with rather wide arches.
(http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f370/Dawntherockets/sa22c.jpg) (http://s51.photobucket.com/albums/f370/Dawntherockets/?action=view¤t=sa22c.jpg)
this motor is gonna be awesome, some great work going into it ;)
Must admit those rims look megga
Quote from: CHC;722333Must admit those rims look megga
The rims do look good, but customer wants BBS style rims, so those ones are just there to gain clearance for designing the bodywork, and making sure the suspension is moving through its correct articulation.
Plus they don\'t fit....I don\'t like spacers at the best of times...but these are another matter!
We are planning to run a deeper dish to avoid such drastic spacers!
Made up the oil cooler bracket, we will fit this once the front bumper and spoiler has been made. We\'ve also made up the running boards to support the side skirts. The side skirts are slightly bigger than the slimline skirts we fitted to our car, and getting out of the car with the cage there is a strong chance of standing on the skirts...and GRP wouldn\'t last long being jumped on!
See what you mean and I don\'t like spacers either.
Anyhow you are making a good job of this one guys.
ps - don\'t suppose you have a headlamp washer \'pump\' at all?
Cliff
Spacers are dangerous,i once had one & a half inch spacers on a 1.6 ford crapri, the rear spacer shattered, the wheel sheared off the lug nuts & careered towards a ford showroom on a tight bend, surprised my wheel did\'nt break the front windows of the showroom!
Totally stuffed my richard grant side skirts & rear valence.
Don\'t suppose you bought new linen as well as body parts did you?
I don\'t have a standard one but I do have a bag with a motor in of that\'s any help??
I would also like to point out. These aren\'t real spacers!!
I\'m fully with you that spacers are dangerous! But we needed to set the suspension up and body work prior to measuring the offset of the new wheels. I can see a near positive offset coming up!
Already got one of those thanks, no it\'s the standard headlamp pump that I need. Working on a possible repair but would like a spare in case.
What you\'re doing is common practice in retro builds so I know what you are having to do in order to ensure the best design - keep up the good work guys.
Quote from: CHC;722612Don\'t suppose you bought new linen as well as body parts did you?

So long as you didn\'t see \'puppies nose\', that could have been really nasty.
Some more progress pictures.
Made up the airbox and mocked up the pipe to go to the turbo. This will be wrapped in Carbon.
Brake Reservoirs mounted, along with the new master cylinder set up.

Started on the front of the body work now. The aim is to supply a complete front bumper with chin spoiler and front splitter. Front wide arches and rear wide arches.

this looks better and better every time. I take it FBs have mechanical clutches? what is left to be done (apart from \'lots\')
Wow, that is going to be properly mental. Any better images of the coilover setup ?
Shaun
We are going to be stripping the car completely soon, for it to go to paint. When we build it for real then we will take more detailed shots of the items as they go on.
The clutch isn\'t mechanical. It is an Rx8 clutch in there.....but unlike the Rx7 pedal boxes we make, this we just altered the existing brake section and didn\'t combine.
This is surely going to be 1 of the fastest fb\'s in the UK?
Its taking shape quite nicely
I am looking forward to
a) finishing it!
b) running it on the dyno
c) weighing it
It should be very quick! We are making a number of suspension mods to improve the handling also

With the power to weight ratio of this Fb,as well as wearing a helmet,you\'d need nappies as well!:evillaugh
oh ok, so just one brake master cylinder then? no adjustable pedal box?
Quote from: marco;723793oh ok, so just one brake master cylinder then? no adjustable pedal box?
The original pedal box is 2 separate parts...the brake and clutch
We have taken the original brake box and added a bias adjuster and twin master cylinders. These are fed by the 2 reservoirs mounted in the top left. The clutch has remained stock....and is just behind the exhaust....so you cant see it :)
Quote from: shaunwil;723772Wow, that is going to be properly mental. Any better images of the coilover setup ?

Probably the most appropriate comment for this car:evillaugh
Not too much been done over the last week, as we have been working on a couple of other projects including our own race car!! :)
We will put up some separate photos of the progress on that shortly.
Anyway back to the thread in hand.....almost have the front of the wide arch kit sorted now. Should have the bucks fully finished in the next week, and then the moulds and impressions should follow pretty soon thereafter!

is it still running the FB steering and suspension systems. Ie box and trailing arms/live axle on the rear
^^^ only just read this post. Will be running a quick rack with adjustable power steering. But trailing arms/live axle are left the same. sorry for late reply.
Good news!
I will have my baby back for mid march, after not driven it for a year and four months.
The car is striped for spraying and then it\'s just a matter of rebuild it and then the tune :driving
A last pic I will post till the car is fully finished. Complete work of art this manifold and waste gate I think you will agree.
