I have updated the table as best I can - please let me know of anything I have missed or if you can fill in any blanks.

When posting your times please can you supply all the information listed in the table?

Thank you,

As long as all the times are in now, what about deleting the other 14 pages of chat.

I doubt theres anything useful there (I cant even be bothered to look anyway) and its cluttering the thread a bit.  Im sure we will get another 14 pages worth in no time now its getting to summer (or has summer gone already)!

Went to SCR for a recce for Rotorstock yesterday.

Ross posted a 11.801 which makes him fastest (well done Ross)
and is now an invited car (subject to poof of the car being road car legal )

Geff had run a 12.01 when l left, and as lt looked as though racing had finnished when l left this would make it his best time, well done Geff.

I heard that Ross had run 11.6 dead but didnt see it. Geff did get a final run after you left before the burn out comp started - Carl and I watched it. Looked \'average\' overal but it was enough for an 11.9 which was good.

Do we know how GaryG got on today?

Just remember guy\'s that your car must be taxed and mot\'d.
Or we will have to exclude you from the street fighter showdown.
Good work by the way.
Gary Gooding did 4 runs and got two of 12.8 at 120 mph.
This is the first runs that we have done with the car in it\'s present form.
Lot\'s of work to do for rotorstock but we are really pleased with it so far.
The runs were all done on 19 inch wheels with very low profile street tyres as we did not want to damage the drivetrain (Yet!)
Gary did some really impressive burnouts! We will try to get a pic or two up of them.
Anyway we shall be back as Arnold would say.
Kind regards

No probs. Geff - just makes things easier.

Great time and MPH Geff.  I would say for a street FD RX-7 these 11second times are VERY good.  I know of one guy here running in the 10\'s with an FD, but it is a pretty serious set-up. (Talking Street cars here - not 1/2 chassis cars).

You certainly know all about it don\'t you when you start running 1.8 0-60ft\'s!

Well done all!

660 - 9.73
990 - 12.532

( oh yeah - it was a rotorstock - and its the first time i have been on the strip )

Its a 1990 FC TII - engine rebuilt my mazda about 40K ago
totally standard apart from removal of main cat

was disapointed about not making a 14 - but i have nothing to compare it against - so need some more TII figures :)

i did manage a run of 93.41 MPH but it was a slower time of 15.23523 - so not sure how that works exactly

Car 1 accelerates to 50mph in 1 second, and then takes a further 4 seconds to get to 60 mph.

Car 2 sits on the line wheelspinning and after 4 seconds only does 10mph, but then it has better power or something and hits 60 again in another second.

They have both been going for 5 seconds, and both are moving at the same speed at this point in time.  Car 1 however is going to be a long way up the road due to the longer time at a higher speed, before the other cars power overcomes the lead already gained.

Its an extreme example, but I was just trying to point out how the start makes a difference.

Hope that kinf of explains it.

I did too run.  At 4am, monday morning, I timed myself (counting out loud, as my watch doesn\'t have a light), and (as I didn\'t have the lights on) I used the mileometer (bit tricky, as I had to convert from km\'s to miles, and then divide by 4), I reckon I did the 1/4 mile in about 8.4 secs, with the first 60ft in about 0.2 seconds.

I think I can see where you guys keep getting slow times.  What you do is reverse as far as you can up to the wall, and start from there.  By the time you\'re passing the sensor, you\'re doing a good 20 mph already and just makes it that bit easier.

I was surprised no-one else was doing it in the shootout, as it made it much easier to do quick times...

Obviously I didn\'t run on monday, as that kind of time would have demoralised everyone else, esp as I\'m still running twins and the cat\'s still on the car...

Hey - it\'s not my fault Gurj is going to get you...!!

The items from Quaife are more for circuit racing than drag racing, ratios probably aren\'t that great also.

May be stronger, but you will probably still break them.

My car even has the potential to break my diff/gearbox, and those goodies were £10K (the //www.4rotor.com box/diff).

Real strength comes from 9 inch type setups, non-independant - live axel rear ends.  A proper drag set-up will cost you over £10K and that won\'t include the tubbing/chassis set-up.

If you want to run fast and consistent you have to spend the dollars/pounds in these areas, last thing you want to be worried about is the driveline - you want to concentrate on engine power and getting it to the track.

This kind of set-up would be ok:

Glen matey

can you edit your list again please

mine is a FC  - so no twin turbo\'s for me

i was gonna change it myself - but it looks like you copy and paste the code from somewhere else ( or you can actually read it like that ??? )

thanks

Did a 15.84 , with 74 Mph at Santa Pod 4 August 2002. Stock FD ( with low secondary boost!).

I had a reaction time of 1.137.

In another run, wehre I hooked 5th instead of 3rd, I had a reaction time of 1.113, a poor time of 16.269.

However, my speed was 85.46 Mph.

I cannot understand the higher top speed in the second one??

It does seem odd, but the speed in the first one is poor!  You should be around 100mph really, so 26mph off does leave some room for improvement pretty easily.

Maybe your were on the brakes before the finish line on the first run or something like that gicing a false figure.

Just to add mine, if possible.

did a 12.48 @ 110mph at santapod today.

Same car as already on the table - running a single TO4S turbo.

Clutch slip in 4th gear prevented a quicker time/terminal.

On street tyres by the way.

May as well leave it a couple of weeks as USC is this weekend, then its pod i think again the next weekend? As the weathers good there are bound to be lots of people going and thus doing new times...

Santapod today, last fours runs before a motorbike shit its guts and they cleared up for an hour:

1.661 60ft, 11.372 at 124.67mph
1.664 60ft, 11.119 at 127.16mph
1.730 60ft, 11.223 at 128.95mph
2.014 60ft, 11.516 at 130.07mph

Cleaned up, let about 6 cars thru and then it rained. We hung about for the next 2.5hrs hoping it would stop as Tim and Geff\'s cars were ready to go just before the xmas tree. It just kept at a fine drizzle, we went home.

Geff\'s driving inconsistencies were in evidence again, 130mph and still no 10!! :D

The best part for me was watching the terminal speeds go up - and cracking 130mph! - thats got to present a fair bit of power I think....and the engine still feels good - some acheivement considering its now done a few thousand miles and I dunno how many dyno and 1/4 mile runs :D

Dont update the table just yet Glenn ;)

it is well in excess of a 100 dyno runs.    Really well done geff.  Now you need to let the dyno guy have a drive, he will probably get low 10\'s if he manages anything like he did at R/S.  Good work though.

I know you guys measure by 1/4 mile times but what sort of bhp we talking to hit 11.1secs????
Title: Main table of 1/4 mile times and mph\'s for UK rotors
Post by: J4P RX on August 13, 2004, 10:47:50 PM
BHP translates to the terminals and not the times really.  130 is pretty good going, but I dont know how much power that is in an FD.
Title: Main table of 1/4 mile times and mph\'s for UK rotors
Post by: g11ary on August 13, 2004, 11:11:44 PM
Im as guilty as the rest, but its not always down to bhp, there was a vid somewhere last year in usa guy hitting 10 sec in a 400 bhp car, very experienced driver, generally though 500 bhp I would guess for an 11 sec car, maybe a little more for 10 sec\'s.

A good driver in yours with 460 should be able to break into 11 sec.

The 11.119 is an awesome time for an fd in \'road \' form there were a number of out and out drag cars there \'testing\' running 10sec passes - when you look at what they do to achieve those times it puts it into perspective:D
Geff was running 508atw @ 1.4bar on wednesday, I think that makes it the fastest and most powerfull:D :D in the UK - well done Geff, I think the 10sec will be yours on Sunday:wave  weather permiting:cool

For those interested;

Geff/RE:Worx red car
Driven by Guy
Santapod

2nd run of the day
60ft: 1.589
1/8 ET: 6.87
1/8 MPH: 109.23
1/4 ET: 10.614
1/4 MPH: 130.48

10.30am, job done - we went for a burger and a cuppa :)

Did another run 11.1 or some thing, then the WI sprang a leak. Que got stupid and weather got hot, struggled to get a couple more runs in over the course of the afternoon as there were loads of bikes and a fair few kiddy dragsters running. Gearbox got louder (4th started graunching on the way up after a run in with a skyline, plate ?500 GTR on the M40 and couple of great runs with a spanky new Cerb Speed 6 with dad and son on board - fun-hearted chat with them at about 50-mph afterward on the A43 - mainly asking what engine was under the bonnet! said they were off to silverstone and was I coming :)) and although the terminals were consistently 128-129mph the track was getting dusted by the guys on the line a fair bit due to kids in corsa with sprays un stuff so the surface grip seemed to drop away.

Last run Guy did I got back to him parked up and he said it \'didnt sound right\' - must\'ve gone right on the line as it still made 129mph and 11.3 with a 1.960ft. Cranked her and no surprise - one-rotor warrior :(

Rang geff to tell him the news, packed up and headed home - and every road I went on was gridlocked :(

Any way, after about 2 1/4hrs of one rotor chugging through backroads trying to avoid traffic I finally made it to the last bit of the A34 before home. Chugging up hill the exhaust note clears up, the T51 starts whining and she\'s screaming along at 1bar on both rotors again!!!!!!!???

Dunno what the problem is, ignition some where I guess? but she\'s sat on the drive and will be taking me to work tomorrow ;)

Rang Geff. Happy again :)

Just one small point,

There is an RX7 a few years back that was doing 10 second 1/4\'s in the UK.
It was running a N/A 13 b with NOS in a 1st gen.
So not quite true to say the 1st Rotary in the 10\'s.
Still very well done to all concerned.

Now you tell us Carl!!!  :rollin  after all this time, we all thought no other rotary powered car in the UK was in the 10\'s???  :)

Anyways - unless the owner of the 1st gen. comes forward with some figures, Geff has the top spot and got it first!

It was funny really cops I was approached by him at the RWYB 2 weeks before Rotorstock at Shakespeare.
He now is running a Datsun 260z in the nines.(Chevy powered)
He just came out with it and said that he had a 1st gen RX7 running that configuration a few years back,I said what sort of times and he said at first it would run 11\'s and later it was in the 10\'s.
Also if we are going to be really picky Eamon Hurley has run a 3 rotor NSU bike in the 8\'s in the early 80\'s.
The table is fine by me,just thought it might encourage some to think that they also could do a very quick time up the strip that\'s all.
Kind regards

As for JAE no that wasn\'t me, i did go on saturday and parked up on the stand, I went straight there, I didn\'t stop to meet up with anyone as i only live 15 miles from billing and 5 miles from the pod :D

Very easy :D It came back to life 2 hours later on the A34! I was close to pissing myself with laughter I was so chuffed :)

Dunno what the prob was/is but its back \'home\' now and felt fine on the way there. Had blown a bit of oil into the catch tank but considering the few days it has had thats not too surprising! Compressions are all good still

Will be at trax as long as it doesnt shit itself in the mean time - altho it will need some rear tyres ahead of then as the D01Js on there are rooted! :rollin

Guy doesnt bag them up half-hearted mate - its just like watching u in the 540 again :rollin

I\'ll let u know when its running! Mine bins all the original 20b intake and exhaust system (currently building up the intake manifold and plenum and t/b setup from scratch at the mo - gonna look the nutts :D) and is mounted 6-7" down the tunnel using some firewall \'massaging\', short prop, fabricated sump and subframe mods, etc. etc. If you bolt it in the stock location you will save yourself a load of heart ache and money in fabrication etc although u will sacrifice the cars handling dynamics - which i wasnt prepared to do.

TBH its been sat in the corner of the workshop for the best part of 2 years largely doing nothing - but its starting to come to gether now for one reason or another ;-)

We will be trying a lot of different intake setups and generally messing about with it plenty on our dyno once running...

I have another cheap FD for my daily now (and for the track :)) so the 20b really will be a toy and development mule when done.

Good luck with yours, my best advice would be (as a wise australian on this forum once said to me!) to work out a generous budget and timescale - and then multiply it by 3 at a minimum!!! Please keep us updated with progress, I have a major love affair with the 3 rotors. Had a stocker in an FC for a little while, the nosie is just lovely :D

No mate, we didnt get their - (we presume it) overheated and lost a water seal about 5 miles from Avon Park, lost all coolant and wouldnt take any more, losing it out the plug holes :(

Damn shame, the new box is \'proper\' as u would say and we were expecting good things in spite of the motor having lost some power duting hibernation! :D

You shouldve come, that Rotrex(?) s/charged EK9 was there - you\'d have ****ed all over him - reckons its making 346atws!?

Hi Glenn,

Details for the table are:
1996 FD, not many mods: Apexi induction, kakimoto catback and PFC mapped by Carl.   0.8/0.9 bar boost and street tyres at normal pressure

ET: 13.85317           MPH: 102.88

Not bad for my first and only ever run!

SCR - RSII 30/05/2005

and now can someone help me out?
the slip says:
60      - 2.210
330    - 6.002
MPH1 - 80.73
660    - 9.07559
990    - 11.578
MPH2  - 102.88
1320  - 13.85317

out of interest, what would a car running 320BHP be able to pull on the 1/4mile? I know alot of it is down to driver skill but what theoretically should it do? Ive got alot of experience on the 1/4 (must have done it 20+ times in my Reno5) so presuming the average driver could get off the line what ya reckon?

planning to run it in 6weeks at santa pod and dont want to be too dissapointed on the day ;) saw a few RX7s at RS2 running what Id suggest ot be slowish times what car they are....

thanks, Dave

Hi Mate,

Drop the tyre pressures for a start, dont go to mad, a few psi to begin with, going to ott can result in your diff and its contents staying on the start line...

What revs did you take off at?

To be honest mate I ain\'t got a clue!
I hit the throttle and lifted the clutch, slowed the clutch over bite till it was firm, then slammed it from there.  Judging by the pace I took off at I\'d guess only 2.5 - 3k rpm
Looking at the playback on the defi\'s I didn\'t have full boost through a big part of first gear so think there\'s a little time to be gained in there.

Do the early times look high?  Carl and I guess the bhp to be around 300 but it wasn\'t mapped on a dyno so can\'t be more precise

Don\'t want to hit the clutch gearbox and diff too hard cos repair costs would hurt at the mo.

Any advice is welcome!  Want to beat a 13.3 run by a friend in a scoob with the interior stripped out

Dave, according to the dyno on the day I had 305bhp, and I got 13.1\'s and 13.2\'s, have had a 13.0 on a really good launch, so with 320hp and a nice run you may even crack into high 12\'s...

I was holding my throttle at 3000 revs for most of my launches, i experimented with it, less and i bogged down, more and i got to much wheel spin, it all depends on pressures, tyre temps, the surface you are racing on...

i would start with a slight drop in pressure, hold the throttle at your desired revs an launch..

it took me a while but i got my 12.9 eventually! :D

Im running just under 300 at the wheels..

incidentally it was my first ever run on the strip

I said before I went I would be happy if I made 13\'s so its not far off considering theres no major tuning been done of the engine I\'m happy

I think it\'s great that several of us than had never done it before now have done...

5500 is the sweet spot for mine for sure (Which fits with the theory and with James\' dyno printout) - problem I had is feathering the clutch. It needs to be proper hot for progressive takeup. The last run I was riding the clutch in the queue on purpose and that seriously helped balancing it all. I was so shocked at a half-decent launch I stopped paying attention and cocked up 1-2 AND 2-3 and in fact pretty much gave up once in 3rd and wasn\'t on WOT at the trap!

Next time - no hangover, and wind it up a bit more when staged - there was definitely slack in something on my 3rd launch so it bogged slightly even though the revs were there.

It was almost impossible to get the PZeros to spin on launch pad as well, be interesting to see what happens when I try it on a track setup with Avons.

Can someone advise - don\'t think I\'ll lunch the diff, but I\'m a bit concerned about the CF drive shaft, will it take the abuse?

Figures later, left the slips at home AGAIN - best was just under 16.1 with absymal everything else. :D

Ran my first 1/4 this weekend :3gears-rh  to say i was nervous on the first of my 3 runs would be a minor understatement. My best time of the day was 14.4s so although i was very happy about this i feel i could do better with a few tips on starting techniquies when to change gear etc. So any advice would be greatly appreciated  :cool

Right o, had a great day at Santa Pod today and had my first go at drag racing. Good to meet some of you , hope you all had a good day. Heres my times for today. I\'ve never done it before so I took it pretty easy boost setting wise and revs. I\'m not very at home with high revs on the launch. I was only revving to about 3-3.5krpm which was definately too low. The first run was done in the lowest boost setting, second in second boost setting and third run in third boost setting (1 bar I think but need to confirm with John Y?). I didn\'t try the high boost setting as my technique was very poor and I didn\'t want to end up in the concrete on my first day! I spoke with a few Pod regulars about the time and they reckon it shows my technique to be very novice and the car to be very promising as I still got a 12.9 with such a poor start. I\'m chuffed with it , just need to learn to launch better and hopefully I\'ll get some very good scores. What do you guys think?

Stripy broke, the dragon car ran though. I didn\'t get the times I\'m afraid. The first run didn\'t really happen, the second run was a bit snakey (!) in the tens I think , but may be wrong. Impressive cars in the flesh. First time I\'ve seen them. The jet car was mental!

Ross ran a best of 10.17 I think, was having some selection/learning curve issues with his dog box which prevented him breaking into the 9s :o I think the \'box broke in the end?

Stripey\'s \'very used parts bin\'-engine turned out to be a bit far gone lol, it was \'run in\' during the burnout I think and inspite of a great 90ft called it a day early :Grrr

RE:Worx and Dragon shared hotel and dining facilities on saturday night which made for a rather entertaining evening with lots of rather amusing banter :Giggle

Great day today - I didn\'t get to see a lot of racing, but heard some VERY quick Mazda\'s going down the strip :)  Max, saw you there but just didn\'t get a chance to come over - when I did eventually you guys must have been on track.

Scott - excellent stuff mate! - that is quick for stock twins!!!!!!

So Ross ran a 9.3?  can someone provide the exact time/mph? and are there any other PB\'s? new times to input.

Thanks!

.ps Safe to say that the RX\'s are really holding their own in the Jap Drag scene here.  Was funny to watch that demo V8 thing run down the track - thinking that it was only running 9\'s wasn\'t it? Even if it was running 8\'s -an 8.8 was run by that white GTR today. :)

just thought i would askyou guys opinions on what sort of times i would be getting when i have the following parts fitted next month
1.gt35/40r turbo
2.1600cc injectors
3.v-mount
4.fuel rail
5.fpr
6.bosch 044 pump with surge tank
cold air feed and filter
and there is quite a few pipes for i/c turbo, some ducting for the v-mount/rad,some sort of fan i think which aids the turbo for better temps.
7.not sure it will help though on drag strip but the tein flex suspension and racing beat uprated anti roll bar with the bar on top .

I have been told i should be making at least 400+hp atw.

Finally it has 3" d/pipe and mid pipe with a 4 1/2" back box apexi power fc.

Let me know your thoughts

cheers all

I\'d guess you\'ll make 350-400 atw\'s depending on boost and porting. Flex wont help u much on the drag strip, they dont go that soft. Should be nice on the track tho, esp with the RB anti-roll bars.
Title: 1/4mile times
Post by: hotstepper1973 on January 25, 2007, 08:35:06 PM
20b boy i have been told with the manifold having a setting 1.06 on the housing if that is right it should be good for over 400+hp atw whereas with a lesser setting of 0.82 that would be 350-380hp so i want to have 400+hp so obviously wanted the higher power.

Would it not help my times if i had say toyo r888 tyres instead of what i have now bridgestone potenza\'s.

I have been lokking through what people have run and what spex but it doesn\'t go into much detail.

At rs1 i did a 13.35 terminal spped i forget but around 109mph and that was on stock everything apart from backbox and apexi so was hoping to get that down to maybe 10-11 sec that would be reasonable but as you say running tein flex it maybe to hard but that is because i am doing more track and hillclimb stuff.

What\'s your thoughts then on times i may get on the strip only an estimate.

cheers

granted I heard that rumour as well, thats why I took my car to pod afterwards to prove that it was a consistant 11 second car, which it did on several runs.
Anyway I will be running on MT Drag radials this year on high boost

I thought it was being broken for parts - have you changed your mind?  Or do you have something else lined up? (Either is good news for the rotary community :) )

What times are you getting at pod compared to TOTB. Any changes to the engine between running at both venues?

Do you want some air suspension? - The Purple Peril might have to inherit  some air bags... maybe we could take them out of the RX8 dash????

Same engine/turbo config when I ran it again in August late 11s before I mashed the diff, of course since then I have changed the engine and turbo and have run late 11s again on lower boost in October

Yes great time, crdit to the driver, but give the guy some power! 125mph is lame. I did 123mph on a T04S at 1.1 bar. You should be getting much higher termainls with a bridge and that turbo. Unless youve converted it to 1 rotor?

That is because he was on \'street et\'s\',too much wheel spin! he has done 130mph terminals with the drag tyres. He says he is going to annialate James at Rotorstock,we will see.

Aye, I guess it cant be argued against tho - you\'ll soon thank the rules if u hit some thing hard! Try and get the car weighed before/after Chris, be interested to know what what went into James\' car. Might be worth giving Hausers a call, they did the bits we didnt (e.g. cage) on James\' car to get it legal so will know whats what and should be able to get it dusted off quickly for you with a bit of luck...they usually seem to be able to fit work in inside a reasonable timescale which others seem to struggle with.

If you beat it I\'ll have to build my old car back up, but this time with air suspension, very jealous of those sixty foots.

Please amend Ross\'s time to 9.172,so we know what to aim for. That makes him not the fastest rotary in the world with an oem H pattern gearbox, the fastest belongs to an RX3 which ran 9.15,you can see it on the Microtech website.:Laugh

over 6 months since the last post here! No one drag race anymore?
Chris Impey ran today at Shakespeare.1st run he bogged off the line really bad,4.2 sec 60ft.
Then he broke both chrome-moly drive shafts,so we fitted some standard ones. All he needed to do was run and beat 12.1 to be second place in the pro class.\'Take it easy Chris\',so he does 9.52 at 140mph!:Thumbsup!:WaveBye

updates on Thursday ;), hopefully be at Japshow with it but wont be running, as I have to do some running in miles before Geff does a boost map for it on the Motec.
1 BAR will be used for is first strip action on pump fuel, then 1.3 for Rotorstock then ulitmately 1.5 BAR for the Japshow finale, will be using race gas this time to get a few more horses

1.3 Bar last year on the To4Z, 1.3 BAR on the T51 with the differrent porting is whole lot more volume of air at the same boost pressure, so will give me more power, well we shall see on the dyno when it gets mapped.
1.5 BAR will be new territory for me cant wait :D

Yeah  you could I modded the turbo. Tim showed me this really good trick hks t51r\'s you send an apex seal through it which trims the blades on the turbo, you then get your dremel out tidy up the rough edges, and apparently you end up with a the same thing what you would pay hks japan a lot of dosh for for the price of an apex seal.:bandit

I have one more rebuild to complete, that I am half way through then I can finally get round to sorting mine.
I have decided to Kev it up a bit and put on a bodykit and respray wheels etc
don\'t if all this will be done before rotorpop, as I have fuel system upgrade to do amongst a lot of other stuff as well.
I might just run it with all my upgrades but without the bodkit and respray for rotorpop then when that\'s over stick in the bodyshop.
About 5-6 weeks and it should back on the road is suspect.

Saw the run, looked to bog down a little, then hook up, Guessing it dropped 2000rpm out of boost or so no more than that, other than that it looked a very nice clean pull.

Looked capable of a 9
Title: Main table of 1/4 mile times and mph\'s for UK rotors
Post by: DRAGON on June 24, 2008, 08:31:29 AM
We were bogging down on the launch so decieded to increase the launch RPM, used to much and then wheel spun on the 2.1 sixty. However if we can get that down to a 1.4 sixty like the old car we should be able to take double the difference off the top end.
Which gives us a 9.2, although thats just the maths, the reality is probably very different:)
Broke the diff and a driveshaft on saturday, so had to change them which meant we didnt get as much running time as we would have liked.
Either way im sure it has 9s and a 150mph+ terminal in it.

Quote from: Timrxmotors;511338Lee Mills did 12.4 at the Japshow,on 1 bar boost, that is 1/2 sec quicker than the silversnail managed with 2.2 bar boost! Ross did 10.8 in the silversnails car.
Chris impey did 9.6 on a less prepped track on saturday, then broke 3rd gear in his \'1200 bhp\' gearbox! Spoke to Jerico, they said that was not suppose to happen.:reallymad

Ahh tim,my car is now faster than the purple peni$:flamed, who did the 10.8 then?oh it must have been me:D because ross did a 10.6.Cars got so much potential, you have got to remember what the car weighs, its moted and taxed and i drive it(when i change the exhaust which takes 10 minutes with the v band setup).Wouldnt it be embarrassing if a full weight street car got anywhere near the 1000bhp,980kg-(quotes i have heard and read),jericho boxed, drag car of Mr impey.:rollin

Why does Steve\'s car show as class x non road legal ??
I have notcied one thing about Tim, he only goes quick when he\'s racing me, all other times he\'s the purple snail.

surely for it to be in the street class it would have to be completely legal to drive it straigt off the track and onto the road without any chages ie drag tyres etc????

So long as the car has MOT and road legal you can run in classf, ET streets do have a tread so technically a street tyre, maybe because silver snail was running Drag front runners which are not street legal he had to run in Class X

Bit like the rx7club forum where they 700+ the wheels and still cutting 10\'s all the people think they\'re heros.
Someone puts up a post about Chris running 9\'s and there\'s hardly and replies.
Had that been on of there own with 120,000bhp at the wheels they would of made the thread a sticky and celebrated them like they had just come back from Iraq or something.

I had to enter class x because of the tyres, even if you have mt et streets, they wont allow you into the street classes, they would have to be the radial version.I have a full roll cage but it isnt welded in,rear seats, carpet, dash, etc is standard.
The car is carrying alot of weight compared to the other top rx"s in the country, combined with the size of the turbo its taking alot of shifting off the line, when we can keep the turbo spooling off the line and get the necessary grip, the car will run 9"s.
A while ago brian,i saw you ask on rx7club about 2 step, how did you get on,this could be the next step:cheers

I didn\'t bother with it as, my main problem was too much spinning of the line as it was anyway. Thought I would change my tyres and learn to launch properly instead.

Now i going to give you the bigun, when we built my car ross made me do alot of research into buying the parts,my input was done this way.Ross built the car as he is the best at doing that, while i can concentrate on my business and family which i am the best at.
If you are going to have a go at someone you dont know then get your facts straight,my giving it the "bigun" is usually only in banter to people i know,-tim,chris,rich,mark,james,colum,geff,etc-which is all in jest-we all share a beer at the end of a meeting and have a good laugh.
I have always driven my car(although badly),it was only at japshow that i insisted ross drove the car to try and find out why i couldnt launch it,hopefully this will be resolved and i will be able to drive it into the nines, when this happens isnt really a concern of mine or anyone elses,i enjoy the meetings and the company aswell as the racing.

:cool:cool I am far from a big headed person i just get angry when the car and myself get slated all the time from the likes of 20b boy and yourself with phrases such as "cheque book racer".I work hard for my money that i earn,i have not been gifted it,my 3 children always come first, but what i spend the rest of my money on surely is of no one elses concern. Its particularly hard in this country with the lack of sponsorship to develop a out and out drag car,but hopefully this will happen next year.
I personally think the car should get more recognition that it actually does, the planning and effort gone into building it was unbelievable.Indeed when the 780bhp figures were posted not one of the bigwigs i.e chairman, president, super mods etc said welldone.Sometimes i wonder why i bother, but the enjoyment i get out of planning a car, driving it,the atmosphere of the track, and the laughs we have afterwards far outways the negatives i get from certain keyboard warriors.:cheers

As I said before .... Banter,   you certainly like giving it but obviously dont like receiving.....   nobody said anything about your money or your kids,  you brought all that into it.

Quotes like:  " Indeed when the 780bhp figures were posted not one of the bigwigs i.e chairman, president, super mods etc said welldone.Sometimes i wonder why i bother "  would indicate that you dont do it for personal enjoyment but for recognition.  If you enjoy it then crack on and dont care what others think, I wish I could afford to build a car like yours,  you can so good on you, but accept a little P1ss take occassionally.

Oh,  and I\'m no key board warrior,  the only thing i havent done to any of my cars is mappping, and thats because i need a rolling road. Mapping on the road is a little too dangerous for my liking.

Quote from: silverrexman;516391:cool:cool I am far from a big headed person i just get angry when the car and myself get slated all the time from the likes of 20b boy and yourself with phrases such as "cheque book racer".I work hard for my money that i earn,i have not been gifted it,my 3 children always come first, but what i spend the rest of my money on surely is of no one elses concern.

Oh, and what a mover on the dance floor too! Colum and i were looking for some corks!

Antinuk I think you are jealous, the level of car Steve has, is beyond anything you have experienced, so I dont expect you to appreciate or understand. If you had accomplished something succesfull I think you maybe able to talk more, but untill you have actually driven a car with that kind of HP, your comments carry little weight.
Steve does not earn a great deal of money. BUT the big difference is that he is a true enthusiast and therefore the % of his earnings that he is prepared to spend is much greater than yours. He is far from a chequebook racer. I think this level of enthusiasm should be appreciated more, as without cars like his, it would be very poor for Rotary development etc.

I really dont like the phrase "chequebook racer" unfortunately not all of us have the technical know how to build or maintain our own cars so does that mean were not allowed to race them.thats a bit like saying if you dont know how to fit your own kitchen you cant use it. just because we have to pay somebody to do what there good at doesn,t mean to say we have no input into the process.
Thanks

I dont mind receiving it(oops i think i better rephrase that before i get pmd by a few certain types on here) by people who have actually achieved what i am striving for,not by people who have never driven such a vehicle.I personally am after no recognition but ross who built the car deserves some.I would be at the pod today but in the strive for more power the engine is out,but will be ready for rotorstock, fingers crossed.:wave

Ross, I would expect you to stick up for him, you pocket all his hard earned.....  I just hope your customer satisfaction has improved somewhat....

I think you both take things a little to seriously,   it was a p1ss take about somebody who\'s car out weighs their driving abilities (at the moment).....  nothing more and only because he has ripped the p1ss out of every other challenger on here.   Not about how much some body earns or what percentage they are prepared to sacrafice.  You are right, the percentage of my income that I am prepared to spend on my hobby is very little but i still enjoy it but also do a lot of other things.  Jelous, ...............  you dont know me very well :WaveBye

Think back to Pod last month when u, ross, james, colum, me, geff, max, tim, chris, garyg et al were altogether; I\'m pretty sure anyone in the paddock that day wouldve done anything to help any of the others (like Colum changing your diff, GaryG crewing for Geff on sunday etc); that sums it up for me - the camaraderie  in the pits amongst us all is the real deal and whats important - and I\'m pretty sure we all have the respect for each other that is deserved at the end of the day :yes

charge coolers all the way this thing is huge:evillaugh and it works made more power with less boost,if we go on about what works and everyone using them then we will see more air suspension cars soon then cos that works great.

Depends on the level of grip,i would say a tubbed car with around 800whp would get interesting. As you can see with the level of grip chris gets he is able to get the front wheels off the ground,as that car gets more and more powerful(somewhere near the power level i have:Giggle) they will eventually need a bar.Unfortunately as my car doesnt hook up yet the only bar i require serves drinks-.......one day though!:Thumbsup!

Mark its makes no difference that your tyres have tread, your tyres are the same as mine- et streets with bias ply,not the radial version.Mixing bias at the rear with radial at the front could cause problems especially as you now have more power and terminal speeds should be increased.James runs the radial version so doesnt need drag tyres up front,i remember chris"s runs last year when he had drag tyres on the back and normal wheels and tyres on the front, at top end the car was all over the place,as soon as he put the skinnies up front the car ran alot better.Be careful and be safe!!!!!:Thumbsup!

Title: curious to know
Post by: declasm on August 14, 2008, 02:45:21 PM
just been browsing this section for the first time and I\'m just curious to know what times other people have achieved from relatively unmodded rexs

In May at the PTM show at santa pod I ran a 14.14 @ 99.82.
Mine is a uk FD with mods being:
3 inch exhaust
BOV
tein superstreets
265 x 18 back and 235 x 18 front (kumho supra ecstas)

next mod is obviously an apexi power fc but currently the engine internals and ecu are standard uk spec with standard boost on the twins (237bhp is what i\'d expect). I\'ve read in a few places online that the standard Japanese R1 (255bhp) should run a 13.9 @ 99.9 in ideal conditions, so mine looks very close to that.

What have you guys run on relatively stock rexs? what can i expect with a power fc, decat and downpipe? (power and 1/4 mile)

cheers

Yeah it is quite strange the Guys in the US with so much more HP are only 0.5 second quicker in the quarter.
James W has about 40 bhp more then me and he got 10.1 he is nearly into the 9s and he is still 300bhp apparently behind Ernie T. Must be the Dynos they use on different ramp rates or something.

Nothing special in my launch Technique, Burn out the ET Streets for a few seconds, go up to the line whilst finding the biting point on the clutch and holding onto the handbrake (loads up the drivetrain), 6K rpm dump the handbrake engage the throttle, as the Meercat would say "simples" lol :rollin

Well done!

It would be good to get a proper table of this and somehow keep it updated - could have info on 60ft, 1/4+ET, body shape, turbo, tyres, fuel etc..

If you get people interested, then more people will try to compete?
