Hi Everyone, hope someone can help me !
Right basically i went to start the rex up yesterday as im not using at the moment i like to start it every 4/5 days to keep it running and get it upto temp, especially with this cold weather just lately!
Basically i turned the key, it turned over a couple of times then all of a sudden, i heard the loudest BANG come out of the exhaust,
the car started but sounded rough for a few seconds then the idle settled down, it sounds like its miss firing a little while its running, there some blue smoke , the car has done 58k miles so far so im pressuming its screwed. before this time when i have started the car i have tapped the accelerator when its still running on idle, its not revved over 2k rpm and its popping/banging out of the exhaust very loud also:3Confused? i know the car is overfueling and from last time i drove it the second turbo doesnt seem to be kicking in properly,
list of mods are hks twin filters, decat exhaust, and there is an apexi power meter bolted to the ecu.
Hope someone can help :reallymad.
Thanks everyone:mmmm
checked the map sensor?
Hi Ash, i havnt checked the sensor , come to think of it i havnt checked any :o, not the most technically minded so might have to get someone to take a look round it for me!
how old is the fuel in the tank and do you have the xhaust warning light on the dash or high knock readings on the PFC controller?

MAP sensor\'s dead easy to check; its a little electrical doo-dad mounted on the firewall behind the throttle body, near the ABS gubbins. There\'s a small vaccuum hose that goes onto a nipple on the MAP sensor that often comes loose and gives you horrible running problems similar to those you describe.
Shark: no warning lights mate and the fuel has been in there about a month or so, to be honest the fuel is low now , might even have the light on?
Nik: thanks alot ill give it a try today and see if it makes any difference.
I was under the impression that leaving car idling to get up to temp is more damaging as all you get is heat soak into the engine bay as there is no cold air flowing through the front (unless you have a fan or a windy day!!) Much better to actually go for a drive? or is that just me??

true, i just jump in mine and drive and dont give it any welly till im up to temp
mine did something similar and turned out that my spark plugs were screwed. Changed them over and it ran fine

Very true. Causes carbon build up too, bettter to not start the car at all than just leave it idling every week or so.
What AshRX and kevin said!
Because the throttle is closed the engine will run richer at idle. This means the plugs get moist and you can get unburnt fuel going into the exhaust. Far better to start up and drive off soon afterwards, better for the car and more fun. Just don\'t rag it until your temperature gauge has reached normal and sat there for a good few minutes.
