Title: Alternative gearbox
Post by: Project Zero on March 31, 2004, 09:44:26 PM
Hi,

I know there are sequential gearboxes out there, Holinger, HKS, Gforce to name a few, but they are all $5000/$6000 are there any good cheaper alternatives.
Don\'t expect to get something for nothing, but I thought I saw a sequential conversion kit for a standard manual transmission somewhere and can\'t find it again.

anybody seen something like that on their travels?

Mike\'s right, Quaife (yay!) do the internals for the HKS and Trust boxes allegedly...

PZ, I wonder if you are referring to the Ikeya sequential conversion?

Have a look HERE (http://www.takakaira.co.jp/performance/ikeyaformula/main.asp)

Looks a bit gay, but allegedly works quite well.

Why do (did) HKS fit Hollinger boxes to their off the planet Skylines? Are Quaife the lower budget boxes, and Hollinger for when they need extra strength?

As for Quaife, why yay? I say Hollinger YAY dagnabit!

Wonder if I still have the phone number for Mr Hollinger... The gearbox Hollinger\'s brother/nephew. :(

Yeah it does look a bit

I think this is the unit I saw but it was just a nice small picture of the unit, not actually fitted to a car.
It looks massive in the picture of the FD. A bit to big, would be really uncomfortable to use i think.
Probably works well for drag racing though. A lot cheaper than a sequential dog box.
