Title: v banded gt42?
Post by: skybusr34 on December 02, 2008, 11:15:25 PM
i`ve e mailed sean at Aspec tuning about there turbo kits...i got this as reply.

Hi a 42 setup can be done to suit RHD, I don\'t think lag will be too much of a issue as we can fit it with a nice v-banded stainless housing. Response should be very similar if not better than a T78 and offer more power overall. Fully v-banded Ball bearing GT "R" series turbo and I warranty the manifold and DP for as long as you own them. Comes with much nicer lines and fittings than your Greddy or HKS stuff.  Something like this is in the $4500 price range. Please let me know if you have any other questions at all.

question... whats a "v-banded housing and hows it better? how will it reduce lag?

cheers

my GT42 is vband and the only reason for it is its easier to remove downpipe from the rear housing.

A T78 will have less lag, but the 42 will have more power overall.

I think when he mentions a VBanded "Stainless" housing I think they are talking about the TIAL rear Exhaust housing which is based on the HKS design which has a Vband to connect it to the exhaust manifold from the block instead of the T4 footprint, so in theory the fluted tubular design is suppossed to help spool up.
Mark get the guy from Aspec to email you a pic of the exhaust housing he is talking about to confirm.

yep as I thought the Tial design based on the HKS so in "theory" should be better in spool up

is this because its a smoother passage for the exhaust gas`s to flow through?

V band is less prone to rattling the bolts off than a 5 stud.
