Title: Billet 20B Front Cover & Sump Plate
Post by: FD3UK on November 26, 2008, 01:56:42 PM
Work is dead at the moment, so I have been making some billet parts to allow 20B to fit in RX7 without changing sub. The engine remains behind steering rack and by using RX8 gearbox which is 100mm shorter, gear lever is in the same position. Still have to make some engine mounts and some tweaking of the transmission tunnel may be required to clear clutch lever. The changes mean oil pump will not fit, so this will need to external now.

Yes, that is the idea, but I could mount sump underneath and just run external oil pump without scavenging ports.

This still in the early days yet (plenty to go wrong). I have sent you a PM on FDUK with my day time phone number if you want to chat about it.

you really do have access to some good toys!  that is a very nice bit of machining.    Just out of interest,  did you \'need\' to do it or did you just want to?,  i cant see the difference between the original in relation to fitting.

Won\'t it mean there isn\'t a sump in the way of the engine mountings ??

Without the oil pump to house, billet front cover is 40mm shorter. Which is the difference between engine being behind or on top of steering rack.

I have removed the 20B inserts and have some FD ones yet to fit.

I have now fine tuned machining of front cover to get as close to steering rack as possible. Made some temporary engine mounts to check fit and to get some dimensions from. Looks like gearbox will clear transmission tunnel no problem except may be on one bolt position. Clutch lever will be a problem but cold use a input shaft mounted slave from Tilton

I have also removed oil filter pedestal, I will separate have feed lines from remote oil filter to each main bearing.

Thats if we are not all back to trading in sheep and living off the land soon.

I have ordered three Jenvey 50mm throttle bodies which should be here next week.

Made some flanges for throttle bodies and PP ports, just need to get some tubing welded on to join them up. Fuel rails done except mounting brackets. Intake and exhaust ports radiused.

Do you use all 20B irons or a 13B REW back plate?

will the front cover also clear the steering rack when using the FD transmission?
