Hello any help greatly appreciated!
I am still unsure of which single turbo to purchase?
I would like approximately 450rwhp, and to be able to achieve this, with the least possible lag?
Any pointers, i\'ve seen a few T04R\'s that people seem to like to use on the FD?
Thank you
p.s. Please only turbo information, stats, spec etc?
The answer to this is going to be very much dependant on porting, intercooler piping size and exhaust system. As any setup is only as good as the weakest link.
Kevin
i think your going to be looking at a t04z or a t51.... any other turbo will be hard pushed.
As Kevin says its all dependant on those factors, but for a mid sized turbo a T78 will give you that power happily. Look at T04Z\'s as well.
What sort of rpm would a T78 achieve full boost?
Would the engine need more than a street port to accompany this?
Might be running a V mount and HKS SilentPower!
Thank you for the quick response, i remember Matt @ RXMotors recommending the T78
I wish to achieve an ever so slightly \'insane\' track FD that would be capable of 160mph+
Many thanks for the quick response
Between 4 n 4500rpm i reckon. Mine reached 430rwhp @ 1.15 bar with a street port and a load of other mods of course.
Would this not be ideal? Ball bearing, good for 600+ and not to large?
you wont achieve 600 hp from a gt35r on a rotary. a piston engine maybe.
that turbo is a very good small/mid size tub. think you`l be lucky to get 400whp from one. gt35/40r is a bit bigger and will prob get you the hp your after
I\'d recomend a super charger they have mimimal lag compared to a turbo

lol luv to see a supercharger make 450 at the wheels on a Rotary engine, it will take one really large one!!!! probably need put a big hole in the bonnet
Haven\'t a clue what this would do :Giggle

Wouldn\'t something like a GT42r be a better choice ??

Quality 1st post..:o
DMDRIFTING..How much do you have to spend??
gt42 would be laggy
Quote from: skybusr34;558537gt42 would be laggy
Was thinking that, even with extensive porting its not going to spool up very fast.
you`d need half bridge to get that to spool anywhere quick. its a monster turbo. brilliant but laggy
evening pete
low and behold a rotary with super charger

Can\'t find any power figures about that fc on Camdens web site.
nice body :-)

900 posts woop woop :-)
you off to town this late pete?
I\'d probably go for a supercharger on the FB with the LPG, but for power a turbo is the best way to go.
Has anybody got any UK dyno figures of the A-spec 500r yet ??
Shaun
this is exactly the info i need, pip said on standard ports "for gods sake dont go bigger than a 35r" i may go bigger because i want lag low down to have some pre 3000rpm economy factor
I run a GT3574 with a 0.84a/r on stock ports and see proper boost at 3500. The way pips set it up the boost builds from about 3k. The 35r is a very good choice, but may be out of the power level you want.
Shaun
the 35 wont give 450 whp. not big enough for a rex.. look at shawns stats 325 @ wheels 0.95 bar. you`d need to up the boost to 1.6bar or more to hit anywhere near that power level. but rotarys wont cope with that high boost levels.
35/40 would do it i think...just! , and i`d say with least lag. the 42 would do it easy easy but on a twin rotor it wouldnt hit boost till near 5k. or there abouts
Im after 420 / 440 fwhp on standard ports, i think the 35r will get me there the best spool wise and still have lag up to 3000 rpm so i can have a bit of economy tuned in.
Surely the most efficient turbo for 450 whp relies on the size/method of the ports, if you can squeeze 600 fwhp out of a t51r on a rex then one or 2 smaller is prob the way to go
Mine is a 35 non ball bearing turbo ! Plus its only a small a/r.
Shaun
What level of power are you running at the minute ??
Shaun
35/40, T04T/Z should do 450rwhp @ 1.2/1.3 bar ish and good size port with proper supporting mods ask Blitzboy, and i think someone made good power on the 35/40
Hey shaun, if your talking to me im running standard twins, fmic, big ex, pfc, bov, just got my 1600 secondary rail, fpr, just need my turbo kit now, bc and big rad, blanking plates and another remap on a new engine standard ports, im making about 330 340fwhp another 100 on top o this should be ok for now, not looking to get 530 at the fly like some nutters
Quote from: shaunwil;558702Mine is a 35 non ball bearing turbo ! Plus its only a small a/r.
Shaun
ok fair point but even with larger a/r and ball bearing the figure he`s punching for is out of the 35`s league.
the most the ball bearing big a/r would do is prob in regon of 400whp with out silly boost levels.
hope im right :-)
i personally would have thought 400 would have been plenty for drifting a rex and the power would be more easily delivered
I\'m have and would recommend the T04S for your needs, near zero lag and 425fwhp capable, cheap to rebuild unlike the BB turbos Perfect :D
Where are you going to get the bits from mate ? Are you going to buy a kit or get the stuff separately ?
Quote from: skybusr34;558695but rotarys wont cope with that high boost levels.
...errrr...yes they can.......whibitz have run 1.6....and didnt silver rex run 2.2 bar.
i think it boils down to your tuning and engine builder

Come on ed thats 1.6 on pump with a splash of race and 2.2 on race for the whifbits car!
Back to the post does the guy need a p or q trim mr turbo lol lol
LOL....Q trim all the way baby!!!!!!

with a qtrim...no problem....just let me know when your ready.....i\'ll give you..a ported front housing for free!!!!

ok excuse my ignorance but isnt the silver rex a car for the strip. only doing high boost for a few seconds. not the same as doing a track. boosting for longer stretch`s.?
anyway peeps my knowledge has been overtaken now i not understand the A/R and trims set up :wiggle
im in learning mode now:mmmm
yes but the whifbitz car can run 1.6 round the track..all day long if required...its all about the engine , tuning.....oh and fuel.
cool stuff. didnt realise rotary blocks could cope. hence never hearing of them much about 1.2 bar. i stand corrected :-)
Quote from: skybusr34;558867cool stuff. didnt realise rotary blocks could cope. hence never hearing of them much about 1.2 bar. i stand corrected :-)
Yes they can cope, just have to keep a few things in check, but get big power gains with boost
hmmm interesting. so why do so few go above 1.1 etc. is it fear of it popping .
reason i ask is when i`ve been looking at turbos efficiency charts. alot of them dont even get close to being efficient till 1.6 or 1.8 bar.
Quote from: skybusr34;558891hmmm interesting. so why do so few go above 1.1 etc. is it fear of it popping .
Yes i presume so, have seen power increases of 75 to 80 rwhp just by going from 1.4 to 1.6 on large frame turbos
go a gt 42 at 1.6 bar would be quite high hp then!
550 something at the wheels last run of the day the car was hot and the 888 tyres smoking lol
I\'m loving the information, I am meeting up with Ed tomorrow so hopefully I can rack your brains too?
I\'ve noticed that not much boost is run on the 13b and a fair amount of power is gained, rotaries are for wizards!
I would assume as stated the GT35r would be good (As is on a piston) if you could run high boost levels say 1.4bar+ but this is not the case with the rotary!
The Fujita Engineering RX7 is running the TT set up and seems perfect for the track! Maybe i am aiming to high?
Reliable 400+ rwhp 13b = Which turbo at what boost?
Also not sure what avenue to take on purchase and kits? Turbo Dynamics, second hand rebulit, American import, Jap Brand?
Questions questions
Sorry haven\'t said thank you for your time :cheers
If its for drift there might be a setup in the drift scene that is prefered.
if buying a kit from the USA make sure its been designed for RHD rex.
im pretty sure the rx6 tub is good size for drifting
Quote from: skybusr34;558924go a gt 42 at 1.6 bar would be quite high hp then!

As Jay said, Darren runs 1.6bar and hits 550+rwhp easily, I run 1.15 bar and get 550 fwhp. We both use the same turbo, half bridge, fuelling etc. Just proves what 0.4 bar can do.
The GT42 are only laggy in 1st gear once they are spooling and in boost not much will touch them. Cant be that bad as Darren uses it as a track car and I do the same with mine. For drifting though I would stick to a GT35 as you dont need mega power to get smoking. A big turbo will be overkill
Pettit Racing do a supercharged Rotary.
http://www.pettitracing.co.uk/supercharger.html
A-spec make RHD kits !!!
Shaun
i believe there many gt35r making upto 600 in the states on the 13b. there are many many versions now
yep coz the yanks use verrrrrry optomistic dynojet dynos, then when stick it on the strip the power quoted is not reflected in the terminal speed on the quarter mile
I\'m using an apexi rx6 turbo on my drift car for next year. The needs for drifting are very different to the average rex which are usually tuned for massive figures and straight lines.
IMO its only at the very highest levels that the needs for a drift car start to be the same as a big track Rex. At anything other than European Pro level you are better setting up a drift Rex in the same way you would for a short twisty track. The types of tracks that cars like Lotus Elises would excel on, to give an example.
I had a bigger turbo running 545bhp last year and although it was great for any large tracks I know it would be not practical for the British Drift Championships next year. You don\'t get enough fine throttle control with big turbo cars, especially just off-throttle (when you first start to open the throttle) and when boost kicks in. Rex\'s are so good in the grip department that they tend to bite back more than other drift cars when they transition between grip and skidding so I reckon you are best off really concentrating on driveability and not big numbers.
The other thing is big power rotaries may have big BHP but thats partly due to having such a big rev range. On track days you can stay in the optimum high range but on drift days (and also if you are racing) its desirable to have a wider power band because you can\'t always keep it where you want it. Big turbo cars tend to have a dipped power graph where the torque doesn\'t come in until later, and then with a big bang. More sensible sized turbos have a nice straight power graph which is much better to drive with.
Lots of great information!
I had a good chat with Ed today while he was at REWorxs and also with Max.
Decided to go down the route of a T64 \'Cant remember exact specifications \'Maybe you can remind me Ed?\' :god T4 flange etc
Or a TD06-25g
Either way I think i\'m gonna be giving you a ring Ed for some info if thats cool
Cool, I was looking at TD06-25g after talking to Max at Brands. The only reason I went for the Apexi rx6 kit was because it was a chance to get a ball bearing turbo at an affordable price and benefit from the spool up. Once we\'re all up and running give me or Mark (m@r]{) a call and maybe we can arrange a skid day together.
Royal,
RX6 turbo? Tell me more, affordable is the game.
Send me a contact e-mail chap then i can grab your mobile and we\'ll meet up soon?
Its not normally affordable unfortunately! I\'ve got it second hand for £1000 but they are around £3000 or more new because of the ball bearing centre housing and posh manifold and other bits. They\'ve got a very good rep in Japan for track driving, very quick spool up etc. It was a choice between a new 25g or the rx6 second hand. It seemed in as new condition so hopefully it will be as good as it seems. Pm\'d contact details.
Can\'t pm you mate but my email is david at dmonaghan dot co dot uk.

When will that spool ed lol
I done alot of work with tony green when he was driving a rx drift car we had a to4e he loved the spool but felt needed a little more top end power a turbo between a to4s but smaller than a r was going to be used if he carried on driving it
Is that the guy driving the Whifbitz car Jaydee? Did they do much surgery to sort the lock on that car other than tierod spacers, sorry its slightly off topic.
On the turbo thing, he\'s driving at a much higher and faster level. What sort of power was he getting?

I think they just did the tierods the car did have about 380 atw on the e tony did say about the amount of grip thats why we wanted a little more top end to make more smoke lol

just got off the phone to my supplier....so will have a prce for you shortly......looing ata couple of options....T64 with a GTQ trim rear wheel
with either a 0.84 rear or a 1.00 rear.
Duncan for your purpose i would probably opt for the 0.84....1.00 if you think your gonna be a bit power hungry later......however the 0.84 rear will still produce good power because of the turbine wheel design and size....and you will get better spool......i would say full boost by 3800-4000 depending on porting and tuning.
what Jay said confirms what i have been saying to you that i feel this turbo is perfectly suited for a fast road/track rex.:3gears-rh
Nice one, look forward to speaking to you.
Can you source parts for rebuild also?
Cheers
Dunc
I\'d really advise not getting sucked into the big number game if you are drifting Duncan. Much better to go for the smaller 0.84 turbine than the 1.00. These guys know a hundred times more about turbos than me so no point me sticking my ill-informed oar from a tech point of view but I will say that there\'s reasons other than money for so few people drifting rex\'s. Its hard to keep a car in the power band when you are drifting so you need to really be careful of your low down torque/spool up. The rotary already lacks punch low down as it is so its best to stay with a setup that doesn\'t make that even worse.
I\'m really looking to put together a track day/Nurburgring weapon. I\'ve run an SR20 while getting into drifting but since purchasing an Rx7 i\'ve fallen in love with the whole package they offer.
Have run a Norris SR20 400+ \'Awesome\' but, was running crazy boost \'Low 1.6bar -High 1.9)
This as i\'ve discovered through all of you guys, and your help, is not the way the 13b makes reliable power or least not the way rx owners like to make reliable power.
There is a TO4R kit on here for sale but that might be a little too laggy?

speak to Jaydee for that malarky!!!...he built my engine and he does my tuning also!
ed have you got a contact number so i can have a chat about turbo options bud?
a to4r will work with a good ported engine can get more modern turbos that will spool quicker for the same flow
email me yours and ill text it to you: elnr_uk@yahoo (elnr_uk@yahoo).co.uk
