Title: Engine rebuild... what will I all need?
Post by: Jim_rx7 on November 21, 2008, 07:24:51 PM
Ok, my block will be in bits soon.

Assuing it is only a case of waterseal failure and all tips and housings are ok... what will I all need?

I\'ll need the following...

RotaryArt full block kit: comprising of coolant seals, 4 inner and 4 outer square, dowell O rings 4 total , front cover O ring 1 total, oil filter base O rings 2 total, 20 total thrubolt O rings, rear stationary gear O ring 1 total and the oil control O rings 4 inner green and 4 outer black.

Anything else? All gaskets, DP, Manifold to block etc, etc all look in very good condition as the block was rebuilt only 3000miles ago.

Any help appreciated.

thanks!

Jim

Should I do the apex seals while it\'s apart? Considering it\'s had a full rebuild 3K miles ago?

Possible water seal failure.

The engine\'s out the car, all stripped down to the block. My local garage is removing the flywheel for me Monday, then it\'s coming apart.

See what the story is... rebuild/replace water seals and back in the car it goes! :)

If you were to take out your engine even though it was fine, running and good equal compression in all six chambers etc...

What exactly would you have to purchase and change to rebuild it?

Is it a case of changing everything, (Irrelevant of condition of engine, prior to rebuild) or can you use some parts again?

Might start another thread sorry to hi-jack yours with this question!

Water seal failure usually means the cast lip between the water galleries and o ring groove have broken so one of the plates will need replacing.

Easy to spot if that\'s the case?

TBH, I didn\'t get it confirmed, symptoms just pointed to it.

It\'s a project for me and a nice excuse to rip an engine apart. :)

It gives me something to do! (as mental as it might seem)

well thi is the kit I use for rebuilds on customer engines. it has a couple of O-rings here and there that are too much, but at least your not short by anything.
