Title: Starting to think Xmas goodies for my rex :-)
Post by: Rotary_Menace on November 21, 2008, 11:02:17 AM
OK people I\'m now startling to think about getting some performance enhancing goodies for my car, now i know she\'s fine (don\'t ask)

At the minute she is completely standard engine  :-) My original plan was to buy some cosmetic feed treats from shine auto but now is not the time with the recession/weak ass pound. So now I\'m thinking power plus my mates STI is ever so slightly faster than me :-(

So here\'s what im thinking:

*  Power FC obviously! right mines a 95 M-reg so do i want to 92-95 or the 95+

*  Intercooler maybe this one http://cgi.ebay.com/FMIC-TURBO-INTERCOOLER-PIPING-FILL-KIT-MAZDA-RX7-FD3S_W0QQitemZ370116612103QQihZ024QQcategoryZ72478QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262 (http://cgi.ebay.com/FMIC-TURBO-INTERCOOLER-PIPING-FILL-KIT-MAZDA-RX7-FD3S_W0QQitemZ370116612103QQihZ024QQcategoryZ72478QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262)
I know its a ebay intercooler but the he\'s feed back is pretty good, the dimensions are pretty good (600x300x80) would this feed under a standard 99 spec bumper? it has to do be a lot better than the standard doesn\'t it?

*  Straight through which one? where from? .....i know i guy ;-)

*  Apexi Intake http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/APEXI-2x-Air-Filters-HKS-Intercooler-Pipes-RX7-FD3S_W0QQitemZ260315907128QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item260315907128&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A16|39%3A1|240%3A1318 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/APEXI-2x-Air-Filters-HKS-Intercooler-Pipes-RX7-FD3S_W0QQitemZ260315907128QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item260315907128&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A16%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318) Ebay my good friend!

*   WGT tune ( i and my much more mechanical friend will fit) how much does tunning cost?

Maybe a radiator and waste wastegate at a time after the tune would this be ok? or would it need to be tuned again?

Any advice from you knowledgeable lot would be very much be very much appreciated.

Regards Neil

Are you on Twins? if so you already have a wastegate.
Is your the 16 BIT ECU if it is then its the 95+ version, WGT will be able to tell you and supply if you getting it mapped there.
The intercooler looks fine but you may need to cut the bumper and bumper support to fit, tbh go for the Apexi Intercooler Speedline is selling as no need to cut the bumper at all as it sits behind the bumper in front of the rad and will be better in terms of flow then the Ebay item

Yes im on twins, so with what i want to do is their any risk of overboosting?

Regarding the 16 Bit i don\'t know how do i tell and for that matter where the hell is it? i was hoping to get one second hand and and try and make my money go abit further?

Good eyes i didn\'t know he was breaking one :-)

how does the rest of what i propose look? i just had a though about water/meth injection doesnt cost much would it add some more zoom? is it a good idea?

you can tell as the the 16 bit version had different shaped plugs into the ECU then the 8 bit .
Actually Im pretty sure you would have the 8 bit version. 96 was really the changover year. The ECU is down by the passenger footwell mounted in the wing area.

If you get a good boost controller then you will be able to control boost properly, Greddy Profec II is a good one.

Again Speedline has loads of Exhausts for sale at a good price,
Yes WI is a very good idea and would add safety and a bit more power if tuned correctly

On stock ports on an engine with good compression I would say approx 270rwhp 340 fly
Yes just get a decat pipe they are quite cheap.
If you want more power then you have up the fuelling with a good fuel pump and maybe injectors

Thanks mate you\'ve been a big help! compression is around the 7.5\'s by the looks of things pumps, fuel rails and injectors aren\'t that expensive think it is going just to be best to start buying parts then fit what i can and tow her to WGT and let them sort the rest out what do you think?

yep that be the best way fit all the parts yourself save some dough and get Pip to map it. Pumps are cheap to buy are quite simple to do

On a 95 M plate you will have 8 bit ECU.  My advice would be to fit as much of it as possible yourself.  Filters, Intercooler, pump pretty easy bolt on applications.  Then take it to pip just to be mapped, otherwise you may find your bill gets rather large at WGT.

mods i had on mine we`r:)

feed downpipe
Kakimoto titanium 80mm straight through exhaust
Greddy fmic
HKS RS induction kit
Ported as much as i cud without doing the engine ports
Apexi fc

and i was running 350bhp at the fly, 300bhp at the wheels :) if pip had the injectors n pump in stock id have got them fitted and id have seen around 320-330 at the wheels at 0.9bar of boosty :)

deffo fit everything yourself and with the base map on the apexi you`l be safe to drive it there if you stay below 3k rpm`s as the map is quite rich.

When you say \'ported everything as much as you could\' - what do you mean? TB? what else?

the downpipe, manifold, plenum, tb and smoothed off as much as i could on all the intercooler pipework for better flow.. dunno if the intercooler pipe made any difference but i was bored lol and it wont hurt :)
