hi all,
after a long absence i have some cash saved for another rx7(about the 3rd attempt lol ), this time im doing what i shoulda done before, go for a 2nd gen...i think, possibly a 1st gen, but im keeping clear of those common 3rd gens ;)
i dont have a massive amount of cash to spend tho, but within my budget ive found a some turbo 2s, some 2nd gen n/a\'s and a couple of 1st gens too.
it\'ll be a daily driver, between my motorbikes, and mountain bikes. so plenty of back up there :yes
so hello everyone :WaveBye
rich
Welcome to fold - once you go 80\'s you never go back :D
Whats your budget then?
:wave
Woop :D good news :D
well it if your looking to modify the car for more power, your best option is TII.
Yeah there are a few Gen 2\'s for sale on here at the moment. Some for not a lot of money at all. Think that\'ll take it to 3 Gen 2\'s in or around the Glasgow area.
thanks guys
my budget is err negotiable, but i dont want to go over the 1k mark.
but there is some nice cars at the top end of that.
i think the turbo looks better, and has the potential for fun too, although a n/a at the right price could tempt me for the winter at least :yes
but a 1st gen with a 13b sounds like the most \'fun\' if you get my drift :Thumbsup!

theres a guy not far from me with an immaculate t2, he drives in summer:god
spotted a black n/a in hamilton too
anyone from here?
rich
Theres a nice White one in Hamilton. Not sure about a black one. Maybe there a 4 round your parts.
I hope it\'s my white one you are talking about Ade :) haha..
I\'ve honestly never seen another FC around Hamilton.. It would be nice to see it though..
Are you close to Hamilton Rich?
Ade - I\'ll reply to your email later tonight when home!

the black fc was outside the butterburn, if you know it? im about 12 miles away, but work there :2Confused
is it an n/a or turbo you\'ve got then?
whats the general concensus on turbo vs n/a then?
rich
Quote from: richrx;557747whats the general concensus on turbo vs n/a then?

well in reguard to UK cars the turbo\'s are better as they are series 5 and the non turbos are series 4.
series 5 in my and most people opinions look alot better. They have nicer rear lights, colour coded bumpers, i think the front bumper looks alot better. They\'re also newer, and have a nicer interior.
for £1000 if you get a TII it will either be a rust bucket (could be with a decent engine) or it will be a project (unless your extremely lucky). NA\'s can be decent anywhere between £600 - £1500. For £1500 you\'ll most likely be looking at one with some sort of respray or a very new engine.
When it comes to tuning theres not alot you can do to the N/A\'s without taking the engine out for porting, if your lucky you can probs get an extra 20hp through breather mods. TII\'s on the other hand are extremely tuneable. I think racing beat claim to do an exhaust which gives you an extra 75 hp...thats just the exhaust.
Both cars are great fun, i have an NA and absolutely love it.
sorry for the long reply....suposed to be doing courseowrk ha!

Find a bit more cash and buy my convertible (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52508)? The price is somewhat negotiable and I\'d probably let it go for less than I mention in the ad if it goes to an enthusiast...

yep the turbos im looking at are projects, with great potential. i\'ll be checking one out next week. unfortunetly seeing any rotary is a long drive from Glasgow, unless you get lucky!
but overall powers not always the most \'fun\' as ive found from my bike escipades  but a revvy engine is the most fun.
if i hate an n/a i suppose i can always \'upgrade\' to a turbo, but its very tough to take a step back in power if i hate the turbo
im so confused :Hammer

i really like the sound of it. how long can you wait?
or can you take installments :)

N/A models CAN look just as good.. with a little modding.. I\'ve made alot of changes to mine looks wise.. To be honest i\'m not interested in tuning the engine.. for me its more the styling. It\'s got a new air filter and exhaust system.. but to be honest if the guy before me hadn\'t installed them then i would never have..
I like to think mine is a good example of how good a N/A model can look.. you are welcome to pop over anytime you want if you need a better look at one.
Where abouts is it you work if you don\'t mind me asking?

by upgrade to a turbo you mean a different car? its hard to turbo the non turbo engines. `most people either buy a TII or transfer pretty much an entire TII into a non turbo.
oh an retro boy, my early post wasnt bad mouthing your car (incase you think i am :P). it looks awesome but youve made it look more like an s5 with the lights and colour coding :D

im not going to let on where i work :Giggle keeps the mystery going and saves my blushes. lets just say it sucks!
it would be good to get a spin in it, been a long time since i owned my FD ! and i could get a feel for the noise, smell and sound of an n/a.

i like projects but thats way too much bother.

Sweet! Another FC in Glasgow! I\'ve got a black 90 Turbo II. But i dont think its ever been outside the butterburn, wheatever that is!:rollin
Where in Glasgow are you? If you want to compare a Turbo II FC to an N/A one why not take a look at retro boys and then mine? (I\'m in Bishopton)
Both are rather splendid examples! If i do say so myself!:o

haha don\'t worry D i didn\'t think you were dissing at all.. but seriously, you work in Legoland??.. That is awesome! haha.. Tell me this, do they represent themselves with the Star Wars, Batman & Indiana Jones console games at all?
Thanks for linking the pics Jimmi. Done some more paint work to the car since those pictures.. also got a new reg plate coming that i ordered a few days ago. Spoiler coming from Ade also (no set date for that yet).. and last but not least getting it lowered.
To be honest ive never heard of the Butterburn either.. haha.. but i\'m not a drinking kinda guy though..
We should all totally have a mini meet. Jimi and Rich get over to Clanjapan.co.uk as it has a lot of local Jap cars.. It\'s Scottish based. Some great cars over there!
damn im so jeallous,i\'d happily own either of those :InLove
reto yours is very very clean looking. and i love the arcade button touch :)
and a black t2, rx\'s are made to be black, crackin wheels too!
either of those for sale lol
rich
Mine\'s is yours for £10k... :) I hate posting pictures up as the car is always changing.. one day it will be completely finished though and i will post the most amount of pictures up ever.. that will also be the day it probably breaks down. haha.
you got it lowered yet retro boy? im dying to see it!!

nah they never break down, do they
i think i need to feel what the n/a is like before making a decision, i tried the fd and turbo 2,s before, never an n/a though :3Confused do you drive it through the winter?
rich
well mine used to break down constantly.....starter was dead i just couldnt afford to replace it :P
Quote from: dthebuk;558232well mine used to break down constantly.....starter was dead i just couldnt afford to replace it :P
technicaly thats now a break down, its a non starter:Giggle
rich
shhhh
in that case, its never broken down
It\'s not lowered yet dude.. probably be next year before that happens now..
This will be the first winter i have owned the car.. but i am very anal about the car going out in bad weather.. even if its just wet. She has only ever once been out in the wet and that was to a show i went to in East Kilbride. I took her out the other night as it was dry but not too cold. I got some new plates in yesterday so i\'m going to fit them tomorrow and ill get some pics up.. as i\'ve had some more paint done since the last pics. :)
Oh - my mum told me where the Butterburn is.. right next to Di Maggio\'s in Hamilton.. she seems to think its the oldest pub in Hamilton?. My work is just down the street from it! :)
P.S. - My car has NO power steering.. i\'m not sure if this is the case with all N/A models.. it has its good and bad points.. you can feel the road very well.. but it\'s hard as hell to park!

Got a PS\'s system with pump if you\'re interesting or everyone? and got to fetch item from Aberdeen!.
"hell to park" due to heavy wide wheels!!
haha.. yeah, the new wheels actually make the steering a bit lighter.. I would honestly love the system from you but i wouldn\'t even like to begin to imagine how much it would cost and who i could get to fit it.. might be interested in the bonnet though if you still have it? My mate was making a trip up soon to your neck of the woods to get something.. not set in stone though..

yep i walk past it for going my lunch most days, theres a plaque on the wall explaining how old it is, and it does claim to be the oldest!
strange, you must work right beside me. thats where i am too!
rich
Ha ha it\'s a small world! I\'m on the shopping part of Quarry Street.. the outside bit.. You close to that?
yup, just up the hill :)
strange i\'ve never spoted the car about :s
rich
Awesome! Well i work in a game shop on Quarry Street called Games Centre. The car is rarely out to be honest.. i never take it to work with me. Only really out after work and even thats not very much. Only insured for 1500 miles so i\'m trying to save them for summer next year. :)
retro boy my egi has powered steering. I doubt it will be that hard to fit in terms of fabrication, you should have a gaping space for it :D Even if you cant fit it someone whos done similar things before should be able to do it fairly simply.
Also what is about taking it out in bad conditions you don\'t like? You worried the car will rust? if so, id look at getting it under sealed, or do it yourself :D
Early EGi\'s had no PS (it was an option IIRC) the later ones (later end of 88 through to 1990) had power steering.
Cars with power steering have a different steering rack to those without.
:wave

Still got the white bonnet and mine\'s PS\'s system oot of 89\'s turboII and easy bolt in withoot mods!
To be honest i think i can live without the Power Steering.. It\'s still easy enough to drive in.. But the bonnet i might be interested in. I\'ll need to find out if he is going up or not.
I just hate getting the car wet / dirty.. it\'s like a big baby.. i want to wrap it up in cotton wool and give it cuddles! :)
How much weight do you think you could save if you took the power steering out and replaced it with an early N/A rack?
Worth the trouble?
Im getting obsesed with loosing as much weight as possible while keeping the car looking stock inside.:mmmm

depend what do you use it for e.g driving around the town or cross country or attack the corners;)
at the end of the day, it\'s better to leave it in.

Its a daily driver. But i love a bit of chuckability in the twisty stuff. With a lot of feedback to the driver.:chat Dont we all!:Thumbs-up
I really dont care about heavy steering as i\'ve lost count of the amount of heavy and light cars ive owned that didnt have power steering and it never bothered me.
*The trick is to move the car and turn the wheel at the same time when your parking! Lol!*
Well, i fitted my new plate to the back of the car.. also the first pictures of my painted badges.. people who have seen pics of my car before will notice i have now replaced the RX7 sticker with the actual proper RX7 badge.. :)
P.S. The paint never seems to look the same colour in pics.. but in person they are a perfect match.. weird!

Been thinking of painting my badges white. Would match the white wheels, need to experement in photoshop! Lol!
Oh BTW! Dont know if adereed has let you know - probibly has - but i could collect your spoiler for you on Tuesday when i go down to get my splitter from him. And drop it off with you on the way back up or at some other date?
He actually emailed me yeah, i asked him to ask you if you could email me (retroboyg(at)gmail.com) so we could arrange something. If you could drop it off it would be much appreciated.. failing that we could meet up at the Fort if that is our kinda central meeting point.. haha. If you could collect it though man that would be great.
Drop me an email!
Glad you like the new plates :) . Get some more pics up of yours!
love the white badges, awesome job!!!
Thanks man.. i originally wanted to debadge it but couldnt be arsed getting the holes filled.. haha.. so i felt this was the next best thing. Really annoys me though how yellow they look in the pictures.. now all i need is fatter tail pipes to fill the curves on the body.
Yeah no worries buddy i\'ll pick up the spoiler for you. And as for fatter tail pipes? liking the sound of that!:Thumbs-up I need to get a new exhaust sorted out pretty soon as my muffler is starting to blow :(
You are a legend dude! I owe you.. :)
A previous owner put a Rotecnics exhaust system in my car so it is pretty loud.. i just hate the poofy tail pipes they went for and how far they stick out.. Hopefully i can just get something welded on that fills the space on the body and sits flush with the back of the car.
As much as i enjoy the sound from the Rotecnics i can\'t help but think it sounds a bit tinny sometimes when putting the foot down.
I\'ve been looking at the Racing Beat REV-TII full system for my one. Seen and heard a few examples through you tube and such. Seems like the thing i\'m looking for. Not too loud, twin exit as per OEM spec and the tail pipes arent like two bazookas! Lol!
And a claimed 60BHP hike! Though i should think that would require a damn good ECU mapping session......
..Which will in turn cost a bomb ontop of an exhaust that prob costs a fair ol\' chunk as well!
*sigh* bring on my christmas overtime! Lol! :Thumbsup!
well if your gunna get your car mapped... you might aswell get more goodies at the same time too, like a decent cold air feed :D
You\'ll have to have a look at mine tomorrow. I think its similar to the racing beat style iirc. Mine is pretty load though even with the bungs in. Barrrrrrp Barrrrrp!
