I just fitted a new clutch this weekend as my old one has been slipping badly since I got the car on the road due to a leaking rear oil seal. Anyway.. I haven\'t until now been able to really push the car hard as the clutch would just slip.. When I was out today I noticed the boost seemed to be going rather high.. like 14psi high.. As the revs picked up in it just seems to keep rising. I dare not keep my foot down to see if it would go higher.. It sounds a bit like I can hear air leaking from somewhere.. Possibly I disloged something somewhere when I was fitting up the box but nothing is obvious? Where are all the pipes that control the boost other than the ones going to the actuators? Is there a normal failing that could cause this? I thought factory boost was around 10psi?
Please help as I don\'t really fancy blowing the engine up!

whats the spec of your car.
Sorry that would help!! Car is all standard bar a mushroom airfilter. Nothing else has been touched.. and it\'s a 1993 FD3.

I have a bit more info on the boost spiking/creep..
I noticed today having finally got on some open road the the spike/creep only appears to occur when accelerating from low speed in a high gear then once the revs get up it drops back.. The charactrics are as follows.. Accelerate hard in low gear away from the lights and up through the gears no problem boost holds steady around 10psi or just under..
Pull out to overtake while cruising at low speed in high gear (say 40mph in 4th or 30mph in 3rd) rpms are around 2k.. as the rpm rises to around 2500rpm boost comes in to around 10psi. past this point the sound of leaking air (hissing) can be heard and the boost keeps rising to around 15psi (seems to be worse the slower the rpm is rising) then at around 3500rpm (which I think it where the second turbo comes in?) air leak sound stops and boost drops back to 5psi suddenly then rising again with the rpm back to 10psi by about 4000rpm max and holds steady?
Then as far as I have been abe to tell so far all is fine..
Sounds like maybe the problem is confined to the first turbo? but then I don\'t understand why the problem seems okay when the second unit kicks in?
The second unit is working but fine but leaking oil. not enough to cause smoke through the exhaust but it is going through the turbo and coming back out the recirc valve. But that is the rear turbo??
Help please. Any ideas of what I should look for?

Hey Lee,
you say your hearing a noise? If its a rushing air/woosh type noise? Then its sounds like you have a split, in one of your intercooler pipes?
The first samco type pipe that connects from the top of the turbos to the intercooler pipe split on mine, I replaced and all ok. Check all pipes (Hard plastic + Samco) as boost creep would normally be a result of this.

I can probably make some time next weekend if you are about to meet up somewhere.. Would be good to get another opinion! I really want to rip it all out and start again turbo wise! dump all the ratness and airpump and so on.. So maye I can get some advice on that too?! I am thinking with credit crunch and crap exchange rates and my other engine build project I may have to wait for single turbo and make do with my twins for now!

Im back to work this week and if next weekend is my weekend off we\'ll hook up. I\'ve got some issues with the new one so be good to run over everything :)
might be a split actuator hose or its not quite on properly. if the actuator has atmospheric pressure getting to it, the car will overboost massively, and build the max amount of boost the actuator spring can hold.

I checked and could not see any splits but that is not to say I missed something.. I\'ll need to get under it and take the pipe right to get a proper look. I thought that seemed the most likely but it is a bit strange how sometimes it seems fine then others it goes boost crazy!
