My engine will be out the car tomorrow.
I can get the turbos etc, etc off easily enough.
Are there any guides on stripping it down and getting it open?
thanks in advance.
Hi, still like you!!
If not sure how, put it in your running car with 13"spare tyre to support it ( oil pan in the tyre for stabilisers) ,take it to aberdeen and I can stripped it down in minutes while you\'re watching it. done it for years.
take a look on youtube i think i have seen some vids on there before
I\'ll have a look.
Just looking for a rough order of how to do it. Anything to watch out for, any special tools needed etc?
Once you removed the front plate that covers the oil pump and other bits and removed all that, move onto the back and start from there. Remove the rear plate, take rotor out, then remove housing, then mid plate, 2nd rotor, 2nd housing and then your left with the last plate at the end.
This is how I\'ve seen everyone does it and intend to do mine, move from back to the front. In my opinion, taking the engine apart is easier than taking it out from the car :rollin
What about the flywheel? I\'ve heard it\'s a nightmare to get the nut off??
Any other areas that are iffy? I do have the service manual which does show you how, but it also uses some Mazda specialist tools to do certain parts.

For the flywheel you\'ll need a 54mm socket for the centre but you\'ll need to be invoative when it comes to stopping the fly wheel from turning when trying to undo the centre nut. I\'d be more concerend with the front one which is bolted onto the crank shaft.
ANy ideas on stopping the flywheel turning?
What\'s the deal with the front one? Can you buy the tools to lock out the flywheel etc that are listed in the FSM?

Depends on how you stand the engine. Will you just place it on the ground or will it be on an engine stand. Either have something holding the crank from the front while turning the back bolt on the flywheel or see if you can device something to stop the fly wheel from turnning.
The yanks sometimes torch the bolts/nuts prior to removal something which I would be warry of and avoid by all means after all replacing the crank if its damaged won\'t be cheap.
Best thing once you got the engine out, take some pictures for us tomorrow and then we can see what\'s the best method to follow. Also let me know if you turn the bolt/nut on the centre of the fly wheel does the crank at the front turn too!!!
Have been looking for tools etc to stop the flywheel. All in the US.
Think I\'ll try to bodge something up to wedge it in place somehow.
