Title: bit of an electrical issue.
Post by: dthebuk on November 14, 2008, 01:05:09 PM
Right, so driving a long listening to the radio.
Then suddenly the radio just turns its self off.. weird, so i try turning it back on, no luck. Then i notice that the door light on the dashboard is on, though it was definitely not on before. Still driving i keep looking over at the dash. The door light seems to fade out, then come back on whenever i hit a slight bump. Also when the door light comes on, the clock goes dim or off. So once im home i try turning off the car and turning it back on (this has helped with other electrical issues in the past) Door light didnt come on (probably because there were no bumps), but i did notice the clock was pulsating a bit. Looked at the volt meter and it was reading the norm. Gave it a bit of a hit ( normally helps as theres a bit of sheet metal over the dials which restricts it) Then i noticed the voltage kept on going up and down slightly.

Any ideas what this could be?

I have also been driving the car around with no sill plugs for the last week, because the place that under-sealed the car forgot to put them back in, there back now though.

thanks in advance :D

i had something similar with my old EGI

radio stopped working , the boot light came on and something else

panic set in so ripped the radio out - that wasnt it

found the fuse had blown thats all

so start with the simple things - then panic later :D

Dunno about your electrical gremlins but mine has a few. Main interior light doesn\'t work, Clock lights dim of there own accord, and sunroof needs a helping hand to get going. I think they are just prone to these things as they are an old car now. Like Grinder says though, start at the cheap and least time consuming end first.

Best way to tackle probs is work backwards, and deal with each prob seperately as it could be more than one thing. Pick the light for instance and trace the wire back cheching all connections and wires. I had a prob with the indicaters and it turned out to be a dry soilder. but thats old cars for you! haynes manual has wiring diagrams in the back, great when you get your head round the, helps when your an electrician ;oD
