ok ive just been to pick the mrs\'s up and suddenly the car is running rough as hell?! it sounds like it may be running on one rotor and idles at about 100 rpm but when your driving it picks up speed fine?! basically it sounds like an impreza or something lol! its dark so i havent had a look yet im preying its something simple thats just come unpluged but knowing my luck it wont be :( it doesnt over heat and the oil pressure goes up ok, when its idling the boost guage needle jumps about abit too!
please any help would be amazing!! :cheers thanks in advance!
First check: Hose to the MAP sensor :)
yeah i had that problem before so cable tied it on...was the first thing i checked! and it was fine :( im just preying i dont need a rebuild with it being so close to christmas!!! lol :(
thanks for the quick reply mate
Might have to opt for a compression test to see if its the engine mate, best way to check, also keep checking for coolant loss.
take the bottom plug out of one rotor at a time, remove the EGI fuse and crank the engine over, listen for 3 swooshes, reapeat for the other rotor, this may tell you if you have popped the engine, any problems give me a call
ok thanks alot mate ill do that tomorrow and post up my findings!! :)
thanks for the replies
ok i havent taken the plugs out and done that test yet due to the rain but ive had a look, and the filter on this pipe was completely blocked so no air at all could get in! could this be my problem? could lack of air have broken something?!? ive removed the filter and tried the car but its still running very lumpy and not right! ive checked for champaigne bubbles and nothing, not even tiny little bubbles! it starts fine from hot aswell!
this isnt a picture of my actual engine

Thats something to do with the air pump, as i understand it, it takes fresh air and pumps it into the exhaust to help pass emisions. Dont think it would cause the car to run rough tho
isnt the pipe your describing actually the pipe just under? the one ive drawn an arrow on leads to the back of the uim :(
My bad, it does lead to the uim, but it is still part of the air pum set up. Blanked off will not cause your probs, dont leave it unfiltered if you have taken the filter off.
ok so something somwehere else has gone wrong :) thanks alot for the help mate :D

Mine did this when I chipped an Apex seal last seal, would run fine when you got past 4k rpm.
Do what Dave said in regards to the cheap compression test
nooo your not supposed to tell me that :( well i guess if it has gone atleast ive got myself a crimbo project :Santa
the pipe you have highlighted goes to the ACV and basicaly sends the air to eather the cat or the intake... so that isn\'t going to be your problem as it is sent to the cat most of the time.... specialy at low speed!! Unfortunatly it is looking like a tip mate as a jupy boost gauge at idle normaly indicates a deadun!!
Jono
ahh well...looks like its that time then :( thanks for the help
decided to sell it as it is as i cant afford the cost of a rebuild :( anyone want a pearl white fd for £1500?? lol
ahhh that sucks dude, why dont you SORN it and slowly save up for the bits or keep an eye out for a second hand engine
aye - sorn it, and wait for someone to sell an engine on here for silly money... even in todays market, if you spend a grand on a new engine, it will sell for more than 2.5k - netting you more dosh... (presuming you don\'t keep it once it has the new engine)
