Title: pic and info request????
Post by: leeincivic on November 10, 2008, 10:00:56 AM
eh up

i am part way throught the process of fitting a roll cage and was also wantin to relocate my relocated battery :D

at the minute it sits behind the rear seats in the boot but i am contimplating moving behind the passenger front seat (where the rear seat used to be), and boxing the whole lower half in as i am never going to have passengers in the back,

the battery where it sits now is using the original battery tray which is bolted through the floor and the battery bolted to it but i am thinkin safety wise it aint the best as is in a perfect place to become a projectile if i do ever get into a bit of a crash,

question is really, has anyone moved it into the divot behind the front seats and what have you used to make the battery sturdy (i was thinking either grp battery box or alloy battery tray for race use)

pics and info would be ace, cheers

ps sorry it is all a bit long winded:Thumbs-up

there are some pretty good battery install on here (or FD:UK) ... I\'ve seen it put in the back seats before and someone made up their own bracket (in MDF i think LOL) to put in the seat position and hold it tight...

With it being so close to the driver/passenger, you\'re gonna want it in a blast proof box anyway (or do gel ones not explode?) it should be fairly easy to bolt the box down into what ever bracket you make.

ohh, just noticed your D shaped suede steering wheel - was thinking of getting one of those myself - is it any good...?

I\'ve heard the suede can get a bit dirty after a while and then everytime you use your car you get dirty hands LOL...

sweet cheers for the info, mdf it is! :Giggle

as for the steering wheel mate its alot better with a flat bottom and the suede is easily cleaned with a damp rag, i have never had any dirt on my hands after usin it tho, maybe am not workin hard enough for dirt transfer haha, feels much better imho than leather,

the only down side is that the one i got has the yellow strip a the top and that got rotten really quick, hope this helps dude

I dont normally post on UK forum,,, but mine is exactly where your drawing is,, im using the standard battery tray from under the bonnet drill and bolted to the floor (which for some strange reason fits perfectly there). Then i have the storage bins with the  bottom cut out placed over the top, battery is perfectly hidden and id like to see it break loose and fly out the storage bin.
