Title: i\'m so sad i could cry!
Post by: ENVYD on November 07, 2008, 07:50:54 PM
well as some of you know i got a rebuild about 5-6 month ago, anyways after the very boring 1000mile run in and getting it mapped, it then turned out that my turbos were on there way out and they go so bad about 3 month ago i could not really drive it!

also while my car was off the road and not getting used much the battery kept going flat, anyways my car was at lindop for the past two weeks getting a new set of twins fitted along with other bits and bobs!

i got a train booked for today to go down and pick it up, on my way down i rang lindop to let them know they could set off to pick me up from Chester train station.

as i was just about to get to Chester train station, i got a call from them thinking it was them to tell me they where there ready and waiting But that turned out not to be the case, it was to tell me that while they where out mapping my car, something serious managed to flatten a brand new battery making the fuelling go from rich to lean then back to rich to very lean within seconds causing it to blow a tip off the rotor!
meaning i had to get on the next train home :(

with lindop being the good people they are, i don’t have to pay anything apart from the money i own them from the last 2 weeks work they have done and a few hours labour charge for finding this electrical problem minus the train ticket home!

the only thing i really hate, is knowing i am going to have to do another 1000 mile run in! :Nono!

Bad times, dude. I bet a few of us will know exactly where you\'re comin from, just when you think its all good, the car kicks you where it hurts. I certainly feel your pain. :yes

But, on the plus side, at least it looks like Lindop are squaring you up ok, and its possibly better for this to happen when they\'ve still got the car rather than when you\'ve taken it miles back home and then havin to pay to trailer it back or something.

I know that\'s probably scant consolation, but just trying to find a slim silver lining :Thumbs-up

it seems like these cars push you past the edge, as i was thinking about getting rid, but i know as soon as i get back in it there is going to be another massive smile on my face!

I\'d echo this sentiment if it had to go it was better when it did than as you got home.

What part of the dash are you on about mate? The velvety type part with the two gauges mounted in it??

I could be interested and I\'m not too far from you. (my car\'s off the road at the moment anyway)

Makes sense, I guess, though I thought that the suede-covered one looked fantastic. I\'d be gutted at having to take that out if it were my car. Not that I\'d have had the talent to do it to my car in the first place, of course....
Title: i\'m so sad i could cry!
Post by: ENVYD on November 09, 2008, 12:01:23 PM
yeah i know, it is a bit of a pain as it is sort of a one off but think i still like the looks of stock more, i am just one of those people that are never happy lol

Ignore this, put a reply but re-read the thread and my reply was gibberish. I would love to do a swap but there is no way I can get my dash out and sent to lindop and still drive my car with no dash. Bugger.

Post by: logicalChimp on November 12, 2008, 05:10:35 PM
Bridge-ported twins?  other than soundin like a dodgy porn movie, i\'d imagine that you\'d a pair of uprated twins to keep up... (ok - thats sounds even worse - oops)

anyway - aren\'t you worried that the first time you floor it, you\'ll get so much exhaust pressure that you\'ll blow the twins out the back of the car? :D

oh dear.  i need more coffee... :2Rolleyes

blow the twins out the back of the car! no way...

... would i get with a shemale.

well i spoke to lindop and they said it should be ok, they are stock twins that have just been rebuilt and a non-seq set up, with enlarged wastegate and so on..

am i right in guessing that this is a first time thing on here or something?

if the stock twins can last for 15 odd year with abuse and other up-graded mods, i am sure new one\'s will last a year or so with my mod\'s until i reach the single road!

I built a bridgeport and ran it on 99 spec twins a few years ago,non sequential turbo\'s and pretty much instant boost in any gear.It was in my own FD at the time.
It was alot of fun.

well as i can not get back on this site due to my comp not working i can sort of update it!

the engine is back in the car and it is running but i have not picked it up yet due to other things getting finished!

also the price has gone up and i now have to pay another 600 odd pound on top of the first price, so i am not longer getting the bridgeport, i might not be getting a new dash too!

been told the reason of the tip going is due to oil starving from the old turbos, but the tip went during the mapping with the new turbo\'s so i am a bit confused! and i always though there was something wrong with the oil system when i first picked the car up after the first rebuild (before the mapping) because of the smoke that was coming out of the zorst!

i have had a new loom fitted to the car stil but the aint ure if that is going to sort the bat going flat so i aint to sure if that is a waste of money!

also i think i might sell the car this year as i have put nearly 10k in 6 months trying to sort it and its still a twin turbo with only so much bhp :(
Title: i\'m so sad i could cry!
Post by: karl_tate on December 09, 2008, 06:56:22 PM
cool, wish mine was finished lol

i thought the reason the tip went was down to it going lean as in your previous post??

dont sell mate, will all be good when you get it back :D
Title: i\'m so sad i could cry!
Post by: ENVYD on December 09, 2008, 08:14:39 PM
yeah so did i mate! they said it went rich then very lean causing it to blow a tip.

but when i was on the phone to them before the said when the engine was apart it looked the engine had been starved of oil scoring the tip causing it to snap of full boost while getting mapped or something along them lines :( but i dont really get how that would cause it to go lean :S

unless i have just understood them wrong!

anyways i think i am going down next friday to pick it up! :) get the 1000mile run in done in a week lol! get it mapped! and off i go again waiting fo rthe next rebuild lol!
Title: i\'m so sad i could cry!
Post by: karl_tate on December 09, 2008, 09:45:46 PM
maybe it ran lean as well, because they couldnt have known it got starved of oil until it was apart i suppose.

did they find out why it ran rich then lean though??

do you know what was required and reused in the build??

lol in a week, thats going to be a very expensive one :Giggle can i give you my shell card lol

Glad it\'s getting sorted Stephen, shame the cost\'s gone up and i\'m confused as to why it went pop too, if the oil was causing probs why did changing the tubbys over not fix this, unless they did not change any oil feeds. I got a shell card too!

well i may as well update as i have some spare time and..
woo hoo i have my car back in my hands! and already done 500 miles on the run in :D
its booked in a week tomorrow to get the mapping sorted and so on.. then let the fun being again! it just needs a very good tidy up then i think the smile will be 100% back on my face.

it also sounds a lot more aggressive than it did before hand!

But there is no good with out evil.. With me not driving the rx7 for about 4 months and with it having the wider wheels on.. I caught the same wheel about 3 times on 3 different curbs, nothing to bad though!

yeah i am lol! like i said it just needs a good tidy up! might put some more black in the engine bay where the paint has been chipped off the engine going in and out and so on..

yeah the wheel should be a easy fix tho so that aint to bad! may start modding it early next year!

thanks mate! lol i only really need to do 300 miles more as the trip down there is 200 miles.

there is one thing that’s got me a bit worried this morning! i got up to push my car back for my mams wheelie bin and found a patch of oil (never been able to see this before as i am normally sitting in the car when i pull away), its a small patch that has built up over the 3 days i have park the car in the same spot! so i don’t think its nothing to bad, but i am going to ring them later on to let them know!

0.8 barr mate,

could go to about 1.0 but need a diffrent boost controller! :( as even with 0.8 its not holding the boost at top end!

erm nothing yet mate lol! in the future if i get a bit of money i will get a t51r kai set up (if i have the car long enough anyways) or if my engine go\'s pop again and the warranty don’t cover it, i am going to do the same sort of thing you are, but track feature my car with welded in cage minimum interior (dash and two seats will do lol) and so on..

Good news bud, you gonna get it mapped to 1.0 when you get the boost controller? If you do i\'m not having a play! lol.

well i had 10 days to do 600miles, so 6days of me driving to scotch corner and back done the trick!

one the way back home i used only used half a tank, was sitting at 4k rpm most of the way and every now and then putting my foot down!

power wise i would say about 340-350, it dose feel faster than before! and i was running 312bhp
