Title: FD3 single turbo build Spec Opinions
Post by: leeroy_25 on November 06, 2008, 09:24:55 PM
Okay guy\'s I have been planning my single turbo conversion for some time now.. taking advise from various forums and Rotary specialists where I can!

Below is the spec that I have so far come up with.. please give me your opinions of if there is anything I have fogotten or possibly don\'t need!

I am hoping to get somewhere around 400bhp gross power. maybe a little more? I am going for a Master Power GT37 (aka 60-1) turbo with a 0.96 A/R Reflow housing and T4 fitting. I am guessing I will need to run around 1.0-1.2 bar but I certainly don\'t want to go crazy or stress the motor too much for a few hp! To go with this I was planning on 1off 50mm external wastegate and will I need one off Apexi Twin Chamber BOV\'s?(or will I need two of these?) I have a pair but I am also working on another project which will need one/two!
I have an aftermarket SMIC.. think it may be Greddy can\'t remember off hand. I have also got a second set of 850cc injectors to replace my stock primaries and if I need I have a spare set of 850cc injectors I could put in the manifold? Will I need these for what I am aiming for?
If so how do you wire them up? I will be running an Apexi Power FC by the way. Do I piggy back the extra injectors straight off the harness of the secondary ones?
Will I need a bigger fuel pump and regulator? I guess that partly depends on the answer to above? If yes is something like a Walbro 255lh enough and simple to fit?
I found these in the states that sound good?!

I assume I will need a FPR at least?
Currently I have a stock radiator and I don\'t seem to have any problems with heat.. should I get an ally one or will it be okay as is?

To transfer all this to the tarmac I have a 6 puck racing clutch!! Hope it\'s not too harsh a ride!

Would really appreciate some feedback. Budget is getting a bit tight so need to plan carefully!

Thank you
Lee

One thing\'s for definite - you will need a bigger fuel pump assuming you\'re still running on standard..

I was fairly sure of that.. But read something that made me wonder the other day! Will a 255lh be enough?

Possibly for the injectors your thinking of using. 4 x 850cc/min = 204l/h. Will give you some spare capacity.

I have a GT3574 from Aspec. Its making quite good power figures.

When you say 400 gross bhp you do mean bhp at the flywheel, which is about 335 at the wheels ?

I\'m upgrading to 850/1600 injectors so I never have to worry about fuel again ! Although may need to go and upgrade my pump again from whats running the 550/1200 injectors I have fit now !

Yes I am looking for around 340 at the hubs I guess. I was talking flywheel power...

So is that to say it\'s achievable on the 4x850cc setup?? Where would I run out of stem with 850\'s all around.. if it\'s easy enough to rig up 6x850\'s I can just go that route to be sure? I assume the 255lh pump will be plenty enough. what is a stock pump output?

Cheers

You would probably be better off with 1600\'s instead of 6x850\'s. Not sure what the flow rate of the stock pump is.

I have 4 x 850cc and can\'t get past 380bhp.

Tis close enough, but am still going to get bigger injectors, more power and safer :driving
