Help Oil, Coolant and Battery Lights are on I checked oil and the levels appear to be fine (full) Checked the battery voltage its fine 12 volts when car is off 14 volts when car is idling haven\'t checked the coolant yet and the car starts fine problem is these warning lights are on and I don\'t want to risk damaging the engine by driving it all advice welcome.
I got the belts changed a few months ago and always ment to get them tightened but didn\'t actually get round to it I finally tightened the alternator belt up tonight but unfortunately it didn\'t seem to fix the problem. I actually think I tightened it too much at first as it started to squeak slightly so turned off the car and loosened it off a bit turned the car over again but still those pesky lights stayed on.
Is there a way to test how tight it should be?
A general rule of thumb for belts is, holding the belt wth your forefinger and thumb you should be able to turn it 90 degrees no more no less.
Or thats what i was always told and have always used this method even at work with much larger equipment.
