...You know, the ubiquitious 10mm and 12mm headed ones that are used to fix brackets under the car, heatshields, things in the engine bay etc - anyone know what theread ther are? are they m5/m6?
Cheers :)
Si
10mm AF bolts = M6 thread
12mm AF bolts = M8 thread
I\'ve converted mine to stainless steel socket heads, where possible
Funny i was looking at screw fix\'s catalog and came across these yesterday and thought i\'d put that on the list of todo\'s. They were very cheap aswell.
Some are fine thread tho.
BTW you can\'t get 10mm AF as AF is imperial.
Anybody got a link where I can buy stainless steel socket heads from, have looked but think i,m having a special moment !!
thanks in advance
Aces, thank you muchly, I\'m going to order a bunch so hopefully that\'s deffo M6 :D
By socket heads, you mean dome head allen bolts, right?
That\'s what I\'m going to do :)
I\'m getting mine from a local fasteners supplier, but if you have to get them online try //www.stagonset.co.uk or //www.a2a4.co.uk :)

AF is across the flats, so M6 uses a 10mm spanner/socket.
All the general fixing bolts are metric course (std). Metric fine are used in high strength areas such as suspension, bell housing to engine and seatbelt mountings.

Yes, thats correct.
Ah yes looked it up, but never heard of anyone refer to anything metric using the term af. tho ask for a set of af spanners and you will be handed imperial ones.
I don\'t know about everyone else but i\'m always finding fine threads where i wouldn;t consider it needs it.
Try here aswell. http://www.screwfix.com/cats/4/Bolts The dome nuts are at the bottom of the nut section
Cheers guys :)
There are only for non load bearing parts - I\'m staying with the stock stuff for things like suspension :)
