Title: Advice needed urgently please!
Post by: R1Dude on October 29, 2008, 07:45:06 PM
Hi all, finally got my car running after re-building and I have a couple of issues I need advice over, most importatly it hunts very badly on idle, from 650 ish up to 2600 ish, now the engine has been streetported, the turbos have been converted to non sequential, fitted front mount, got 550 primaries and 1600 secondaries, 260 ltr an hour fuel pump, hks 80mm downpipe, removed secondary butterflies, airpump etc and done full blank off procedure, apexi power fc has been mapped by Pip to rev max 5100 and just 0.5 bar of boost for running in, have checked everything for airleaks and cant find any if I adjust the idle screw it either idles solid at 2800 or goes back to hunting so I am stumped any advise would be gratefully recieved as need to MOT it and Tax it so I can run it in ASAP thanks in advance, Ade :Thumbs-up

One cause for hunting is when there is not enough fuel in the idle and low rpm cells, needs more fuel adding in the map

Sounds like a major air leak from somewhere.

Thanks for the replies guys, the ecu was mapped off the car just sent it to Pip and he sent it back with the run in map on it, I havnt reved it passed 3k either but it is a pain having this hunting problem, will search harder and see if it is an air leak, thanks again :Thumbs-up

The other thing that can affect the idle is the air bypass valve, try disconnecting the electric connector to it,then manually adjust the idle.

Id say it was an air leak , check the lower inlet gasket for something as big in change of revs, does it change once warm? did you adjust the idle with the diganostics jumped?? and what idle is on the pfc?

Hi all, found the problem, slightly embarrasing, forgot I had given my PCV valve to my brother and had replaced it with a straight piece of pipe so it was basically a huge air leak!! silly me, ahh well lesson learned, thanks again for all advice :Thumbs-up
