Title: What engine would you use in a hybrid rx7
Post by: turbo boy on October 29, 2008, 04:13:12 PM
Although i`m a purist and love rotarys, i do like hybrid engine transplants in any performance car and it got me thinking; What powerplant would I use if i wanted to build a hybrid rx7? I reckon i would have to blow my rotary up 10 times til i gave in to the hybrid idea!:Giggle Anyway the engines i would choose for a hybrid rx7 would be a 1jz, turbo charged s2000 motor or even a 4g63 evo engine. I would wanna keep the weight down to try and keep the 50/50 weight distribution. All i gotta do now is blow my motor up 10 times until i give in to the hybrid way!

there is allways the tried and tested LS series of alloy V8s as an option, ask anyone who ses them and they don\'t alter the weight distribution too much at all.

F20C  Light, revvy, and a lovely piece of engineering. Maybe with an S/c.
Heck, i reckon they\'d still be cool with just a humble B18.

I would have a Mazda 2liter 4 pot with a snail.  I thought about that for the FC but quickly slapped the s**t out of myself! :Giggle

Or a V16 - I love the noise those make! :yes

Keep em coming lads, i just thought of another one; suziki hayabusa, they can be tuned to over 700hp! Not bad for a 1299cc eh?

Probably the 2.3 mazdaspeed 3 turbo engine 260bhp as stock is pretty much stock rx7 power anyway.

sack that anyway i\'d go 3rotor NA on individual throttles, loud as hell.

Got a sportcompactcar mag with a Sr20 500hp swap fd3s and that looks tidy too

Don\'t go SR. trust me, the noise is not a pleasant one!

I never understood the SR20 noise comments, I always thought it sounded good. Still not unusual for me to be in the minority

I\'ve always wanted to drop an SR20 into an FC. Infact, I now have an FC and an SR20\'d PS13 Silvia on my drive, hmmmm :D

Yes the noise is utter garbage compared to a nice triple/quad rotor [infact F1 cars sound garbage next to a quad] - but for reliability and cheapness of tuning it\'d be an ideal choice for drifting.
If the budget was higher then a 1/2JZ and if there was room an LS series V8.

Don\'t do it Jord, shun the roots!
Although your Silvia would be mint with a rotary.

Yar, do it.
