I got my FD a week ago, and she runs well and is in great condition.
I got an import direct from Japan.
What i experienced on the way home was some backfire, more so in 1st gear or when i go down a gear to when breaking, also there maybe a pop or to at idle, it was worse when it came from the workshop, but after clearing out most of the cobwebs it does not happen so often, but still does it.
Could this be a sderious problem, or is it becuase it has been sitting around for months and had short drives while at the workshop?
Also i notice a small noise, which i can only describe as a sweak, it sounds like it is something under the car or from the boot, it is faint, but obvious, i was also wondering if this could be something that i should worry about.
What are other peoples experiences with their car after getting ti from the workshop.
Also as this is running turbos, i was wondering if it was best to keep the revs up before changing gear. How do others drive their car to help the turbos and get the most form the car.
Thanks in advance.
Nathan
sorry for a quick reply needs mapping for uk fuel
Make sure you only run 99RON fuel or V power until its mapped as Jap fuel is 100RON, you can damage the engine if you run it on anything less than 99RON or V power
also, popping is (usually? often?) caused by overrun (ie dumping some excess fuel into the exhaust) - provided it\'s not constant, and you don\'t get pulled over for having foot-long flames out the exhaust, it\'s nothing much to worry about :D
The sound of a rotary on over run quality. Don\'t ever sit behind me on a run mate it\'s like a blowtorch show.
Also make sure if you have cheap jap rubber on the rims you get them changed asap or you will be off the road. HTH
Thanks guys, really helpful!
The tyres are new, so that is no prob, but thanks for the heads up!
I put a full tank of 97 Ron in, so i better get it mapped correctly!
And no flames as yet!
Cheers guys
Take your time with her because:
1: new car, rear drive..... you could leave the world backwards in a flame of glory ;)
2: is she stock?? if so get a mapable ECU (Apexi is the cheepest & most widely used)
3: New UK rubber is essential as warthog has stated, this would aid point 1 if not sorted
4: drive it like a normal car, no need to hold RPM during gear changes, although when maped it\'s a good idea to redline it atleast once in the jurny (blows all the crap out ;) )
5: let the car get up to full running temp (oil & water) before opening the taps
6: allow the last 5 mins of you jurney to be sudate (allows things to cool properly)
7: enjoy the beast ;)
Hope this helps

Good advice!
Can a stock engine be mapped or do i need a new ecu?
You need an ecu to map or piggyback.
As for the popping, my car was popping, was told it was expected on a rx7, a week later my engine went. Turned out the water temp sensor was faulty causing it to run rich one minuet than lean the next. I would get a health check by a expert on any new rx.
Also the squeak you mentioned from around the boot area sounds like pillowball mounts/rear suspension bushes, pretty common so i gather, mine knock and squeak like a mofo
