Title: Silly question about boost controllers
Post by: Roundabout-Now on March 29, 2004, 12:54:24 AM
Ok, here goes with a (probably) daft question....:D

What happens if you turn your boost controller off? Does the system just bypass and the wastegate will open at whatever default level of it\'s own spring?

Just curious, as I noticed that mine (profec-b) was off today and I seemed to be getting a bit of overboost.

Yep, you will run on the wastegate spring. Surpised that u r getting over boost in this case; W/G springs are generally set conservatively for obvious reasons. Turbo smart wastegates come for example with either 7 or 14psi springs.

I guess it depends what boost u run normally as to whether a 14psi spring is going to show u more or less boost than when the profec is on...

Not all a daft Q as i thought about it too!!

I believe as 20B boy says if you switch it off it will run at whatever the boost setting for the car was set to, so in theory you could be running higher boost than you actually set it at yourself.

I have mine set at the lowest i possibly can for everyday driving, which i believe runs at 340bhp.
