Just been flickin through the latest issue of redline magazine (november) and saw a feature on a head to head straight line battle with modified cars vs supercars. Out of the 30cars that were listed an fd rx7 came 6th! With a recorded speed of 180mph over just 1mile. The winner was a 1000hp r32, second place was a ford granada! The fastest supercar was a porsche 911 with 181mph. I wanna know if the fd was from here, impressive stuff.:driving
what colour was the FD? bramble\'s FD recorded 186mph over a standing mile
I\'m guessing that was tinkers V8 at fighting torque?
Ah you`ve ruined it! I was hopeing it was a normal but high powered red fd. Blast these hybrid fds! If it was that one blitzboy was on about, 186 in 1 mile is unbelievable.
yep Bramble did that time at Ten of the Best it was last year I think, I recorded 168mph over the standing mile in 2006, but that same year Rocket Ronnie hit over 200mph in his skyline lol

Have you got something against the V8 conversion?
I doubt if he has anything against it, but it nice knowing the little 13b that is in his car is capable with the right mods to get that speed
it was me !!!! actually it was 7/8 mile and i did at 180.1 mph in 24 seconds (would have been a bit quicker but was only revving it to 6400 not 7000rpm as it was on a new motor),i struggeled a bit off the line with spin but it did a 11.6sec 1/4. there were two other fds there one did one run and broke and the other (papercup on here ) did lots off runs with no probs but not sure on his times. it should have been 1 mile but they had problems with the timing gear wire (to short !!).it has about 1200 revs left in 5th then 6th to go
nice performance !, you should join the FDUK Ten of Best Team next year, as they have dropped the standing mile down to 3/4 of mile so you would be right up there with the very best rwd and get into the points
how do i enter ??
well join FDuk first //www.fduk.org, in March/April time one of our Mods talks to the organisers, then he ask us who wants to enter, we can have up to Ten entries , it costs about £80 to enter, Top speed run, quarter mile and a handling circuit. Points to be earned to the overall team score. I think the Scooby team won this year and beat the Evo and skyline boys
Good stuff Tinker :King

Yes well done
What was under the hood of the Granda then?

The Fighting Torque 2008 quarter mile times were a joke this year, everyone was just laughing at them, saying they were around a second quicker than their car could actually do.
They had timing issues all day with people in the right-hand lane getting no time, or some of the times and not others. It wasn\'t a mile either, as Tinker has said. Very disappointing day all round.

There are the results, though only half of them as the right-hand-side is cut-off. Here is a the PDF instead that has full results: http://fightingtorque.org/supercar/images/files/woodbridge%2010-aug-2008%20results%20master.pdf.
The \'split\' time is the quarter mile. So i (number 27) did a 11.51 standing quarter. Yeah, OK! Contrast that with the 13.03 at Brighton Speed Trials (normal road surface, but still) this year and you can see how far things are out.
As you can see a lot of the info is missing from the runs as well, lots of 0.00s.
Still, fun day out and, like last year, a collection of cool cars.

The Pistonheads thread is here:

Results and pictures start on page 11, as does the \'discussions\' about the timing equipment...
the 1/4 mile times were out it give me a low 10, but the top speeds were correct (a few people had gps me included), the granny has a 6.3l ls1 motor with a super charger running lots off boost, the first run went ok,second electrical problem, third run melted a hole through the side off the block !!!!!!! due to detonation. and he tried to drive home but was stopped by the police for the noise,
it still ran with a hole in the block lol i would loved to hear that
it sounded like the worst big end bearing knock !!!
hehehe dedication :D
bear in mind he came over from ireland,
whats was you terminal speeds Tinks?
11.60 @ 125mph at the pod, would love to try some proper drag tyres to see what they give you, 1.9sec 60ft
From the terminal speed you have good power shows you have approx 450 at the wheels, 1.9 60ft not bad at all on road tyres, drag tyres will cut that down to about 1.6-1.7 and gain you approx 0.4 off your quarter mile time, so will probably get 11.2
the problem i have is im changing itno 4th about 80ft before the line as it wont quite do it in third,i will try a 2nd gear start when when the clutch has bedded in and see if that helps as i seems quicker of the mark in second. ive also put a quickshifter on to speed up the changes.my mates tvr with a 100 bhp less on the dyno is nearly 2 tenths slower but 130 terminal but he can do it just about to hit the rev limiter in 3rd ,
I was well into 4th when I did my 11.3 @ 126 and thats with tall tyres lol
if you want to go 10s on a FD gearbox and final drive you have to be in 4th.
Dont really know about what ratios you need to setup on your gearbox and diff.
Taller drag tyres may give you a higher top speed at the end of the strip and help you keep in 3rd gear
its a t56 6 speed and a viper 3.08 diff all set up for the road so maybe not ideal for the strip but i wanted the big gears for everday use on the bigger motor.
