i was speaking to a mate of mine who is a breaker and he told me he had a non turbo fd3s engine in. he was confused as it was a non-turbo engine and he\'d not seen one before.
i\'ve never heard of this before either
so, does anyone have any ideas on whether the fd ever had a non-turbo engine fitted to any of its variants? i thought they were all twin turbo\'s
The simple answer is no.
The FC3S had turbo and non turbo models but the FD always came with twins :D
Adam
maybe the cosmo 13b?

possibly, he said it had fd3 markings on it
i think i\'ll pop over tomorrow and take a few pics and a closer look to clear this up
There was an ReAmemiya FD which was for sale in the back of one of the magazines with the normal 13bRew in it but it was non turbo. They are out there but never where standard of course :Giggle
All Cosmos were twin turbo too.
def was not a FD engine as they are all twin turbo, probably a FC lump

is the cosmo 13b turbo`d? what turbos are they running? are they better engines than a fd engine? plz tell me lol, cus iv got a shell that im gunna buy and was planning on the 20b transplant, 2 much hassle n i cn pick a 13b cosmo up for for pennys in Japan :D
Sure its not just a bare block REW?

it will be pounds now as the sterling has got down the pan lately and the exchange rate is very poor at the mo :(
nah i transfered a chunk of money over before it all went tits up lol, so got money sitting over there the now in an account :D think the exchange rate was 218 yen to a pound then, now it 153 :(
nice one. although the pound has weakened even more now. it was 170 a few days ago and is now down to 141

Yes it is twin turbo (didnt I say that already?), the Turbos and control system are the same, but the engines are slightly different - what I dont know, apart from the exhaust ports.
Maybe other peeps on here can comment further....

was only just up n still sleeping lol
On the 13b-re from a cosmo has larger runners in the LIM so can flow more.
Intake runners are bigger,But the Plenum is an older collector design wheres as the FD uses a Dynamic pressure design, Intake ports are bigger, exhaust ports are smaller then the REW, this was done to give more torque but less outright bhp, the bearings are better on the REW then the RE I have been told but need to confirm that.
So if you going to use a RE make sure you mod the exhaust ports to the same size as the REW.
The main benfit of the RE is that the plates have more meat and are bigger ports then the REW plates
and to be honest a modded REW and a modded RE produce the same amount of power
right im popping over now to take some pics and look at this engine of his...... no idea of what a cosmo engine looks like but hopefully the pics will shed some light :D
Garage R in Japan had a PP ported non turbo FD forsale a few years ago. Basically the 13B without the turbos. Looked odd as hell as so much empty space in the engine bay. Cant really see the point in it myself but it can be done.
problem solved. my mate is a plank :D
it was an rx8 engine..... and he calls himself a specialist lol
Awesome ! :D
I found my original thread about it from 2006, unfortunately the pics are long gone. :(

i\'ve seen picture of a PP 13b in an fd with some massive webers on top somewhere (no turbos of course). i\'ve always liked the idea of carbs on a rotary, something \'pure\' about it!
I would PP & carb a non turbo FC but wouldnt bother with FD personally. I know what you mean about pure though.
