Title: Convertable Roof Parts ?
Post by: grinder on October 20, 2008, 12:42:35 PM
Hiya Chaps :D

the roof on the cab leaks ( dont they all ! )

but upon closer inspection - it seems that its leaking on the seal that the window sits up against ( it has a tear in it ) when closed

So - can you buy a new seal ??

i have been looking on the EPC - and the pics are just that bad you cant tell :(

so if any of you have had a new roof fitted - can you replace the bit that the window closes up against - and if so - how does it connect .. glue , screws , clips etc..

i would get a pic - but the car is under a cover so isnt that simple

it would seem that its ONLY leaking in this spot - but it looks like a new roof - so not sure if just the rear section has been replaced leaving the original ( and old ) hard top bit

any info is greatly welcomed

You can replace that part - from memory mine cost £45 from a Mazda dealer.  They clip in and have a gluey bit on one end.  You can also get the long rubber along the front window top, and the seals at the front and back of the doors as well.

ooohh thanks chaps

the only other one that needs replacing is the one that runs down the door frame ( side of the windscreen ) - it has a tear in the rubber - but looks like some one has put glue on it - but its not leaking

im just wondering if the £45 will stop it leaking - or is it a waste of money

Kron - nice pics - better than the EPC - it looks like No:2

Stu, being the cheap person we all know you to be I can give you a 2nd hand one for £15.  It might well be worth the £45 to get a new one though, does seem rather cheap for a Mazda part though.  Remember I enquired about the roof studs, bolts and washers and that was £300 !!!!!   cant do enough of  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! these !!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway I should have one better than yours. As a cheap fix try pulling the rubber out from the frame a little and make sure your door is adjusted correctly so its flush with the skin. Every mm helps on these.

i need to get some pics to explain where and how its split - its looks like its in a wierd place

and very arkward to explain

thing is - its hard to figure out where the water is coming from - but its defo from that side - so thats all i can guess it is

quite often its the seal that runs down the window, more noteably in the top right corner as you look at it. It might just need pulling out a little. I also use a rubber conditioner as this does help in getting a good seal, after a while they go super smooth or even brittle and dont really do their job. A conditioner will take that layer off and does seem to help...... a little.

Also you will notice a little rubber rain \'catcher\' that sits in the left hand top corner, make sure thats doing its job.  Sometimes a bucket of water will let you know where it it.  Very few rx7\'s are completely waterproof but its just a case of fine tuning in all cases. I am so glad that I have about 3 comeplete roof worth of spares in the loft, dread to think what all the seals would cost to replace? !!

the rain catcher is fine as far as i can tell - but the seal on the roof looks like it should go over the top of that - and it doesnt

so i THINK its leaking in between the catcher and the top seal if that makes sense ??

and if you stand out side the car - its the top left corner its dripping in from
