Title: Dissapointed to say the least....
Post by: steve77964 on October 18, 2008, 11:12:25 AM
Just spoke to Pip and my car is only producing 311bhp at the flywheel

The turbos are the knightsports rf420 twins which i recently bought from Carl at Hayward Rotary from Steve Garbutts car, (which i was told had only done 900 miles) and these won\'t even run at 1 bar of boost?

Everything has been upgraded so there are no real reasons why...anyone any ideas?

I was led to believe 350+ was easily acheivable?

Surely Pip or Carl would know why ?

Were you told what power steves car was pushing out with those turbo\'s fitted?

these turbos are supposed to be good for 1.4 bar. do you know why there saying they wont boost to 1 bar

Pip was questioning the turbo but Carl and Steve both told me it had not even been run in yet and Steve said it would easily achieve 1.3bar but obviously he was still running it in???

What am i supposed to do now? I have messaged Carl to see what he suggests but obviously if it is the turbos then they are not fit for purpose?

there must be a reason why they wont reach 1 bar boost weather its turbo/ancillary related.

what did pip suggest??

at what boost level did you make 311??

Just spoken to Carl and he reiterated again that the turbos were in mint condition so really the problem must be external to the turbo...5zigen exhaust is fitted and the cat has been removed, not sure on the downpipe, how much of a difference would that make?

He did not mention the boost level for the 311 but just said he can\'t even get 1bar through!

im not sure to be honest i know the injectors have been upgraded but i hardly know any of the parts that have been changed as i have not managed to get over there and Pip is the hardest man to get hold of on the phone!

Just spoken to Maureen his secretary and she says that Pip is gonna look into it this week...

by next weekend my car will have been there 7 weeks :Snoring

Steve afraid Pip is always hard to get to talk to sometimes better trying very late afternoon, long time without the car

You don\'t run turbo\'s in, they just start wearing out from day 1.
Maybe due to all the shipping about the turbo has had maybe it just need re-balanceing.

Could be a solenoid issue ?? Does it still have the rats nest controlling them in sequential ?

How long since the rats nest was checked. Could be as simple as a leaky vac line or dodgy solenoid.

Pip will find it. He isn\'t the easiest man to get hold of. He\'s always busy and understandably he needs to spend the time in the workshop. Always thought the "WGT helpdesk" on a premium number would be a good commercial venture :D

anyway i think he will get onto sorting it now

Thats not quite on though, if he is working on your car and theres an issue there should be a conversation to explain why in detail.

Sounds like perhaps a boost issue depending on if you are running a boost controller, if its spiking he will keep the boost low to make sure there is no damage ?

Hi Steve,

I think for now it\'s best to stop looking at the horse power and find out,

a, what boost pressure is being achieved.

b, if it\'s even holding this pressure consistently,

c, what has to be done to rectify the boost problem.

If it can\'t make boost and hold it there , it can\'t make power.

If he fit the turbos then yes, If hes just tuning it then no.

I think you need to know mod by mod what exactly has been done to your car, what happens if you ever come to sell the car?? aint gonna look too good if you dont actually know whats been done.  You need to know exactly what hes done

If you just have a pfc controlling the boost by the standard solenoids you may well not be able to control the boost over 0.8bar.

lol guys guys guys, we need to find out what boost level it ran to hit 311, once we know that we can tell if the turbos are healthy.
So lets wait till Monday, my money is on solenoid problem not allowing it to build boost and keeping the wastegate open

he might of only mapped to .8 .7 ??
Title: Dissapointed to say the least....
Post by: rx jamie on October 19, 2008, 10:21:41 AM
i think its just the fact it hasnt got a boost controller on it and its still running on factory boost control. the boost wont increase to 1.4 bar just off an ecu map.
i havent a clue what sort of max boost the stock actuators can hold either
Title: Dissapointed to say the least....
Post by: BlitzBoy on October 19, 2008, 10:36:06 AM
the most boost the stock solenoid will handle "stable" would be just under 1 bar.
.7 Bar you would defo get more then 311 at the fly with those turbos, decat etc etc
I reckon it probably only hit 0.5 Bar

The Stocks can get a bit iffy after stock pressure but all you need is a pressure regulator reducing the pressure to stock levels on the line feeding the solenoids off the front vac chamber. Mod is quite well documented on rx7club

Its way too early to get worried over it. We haven\'t got the full info and no doubt it will be sorted and scare you silly :D

The feel of them is much more agresive than the stockers :D

i think you could get 400bhp out of these with supporting mods.

yeah all the mods are done but im just thinking about winter driving etc :D
i think 300 bhp at the wheels will be enough for me in this crap weather!

ah well restrictive back box and down pipe but mostly down to a dodgy solenoid....

normally they either work or dont work, but this time mine was erratic and sometimes worked and sometimes didnt which made it harder to work out i guess??

So you guys are better than you look with your diagnosis :D
