my car pops and bangs loads when im driving it from cold, especially when in gear when im off the throttle it just gives a string of little pops! then when its up to temp it calms down and only pops now and then! but theyr really loud BANGS lol is this an engine threatening problem and is there any way i can sort it without spending a bomb???
also when driving it hard it seems to struggle abit in a few spots in the rev range, like ill give it full throttle in second and at about 5k revs it will pop and seem to misfire? then when it gets to 5.5k will smooth off and climb to about 7k then do the same!? its really getting annoying!!!!!! :spank
also when fully warmed up when i give it some, boost rises to .9bar then drops down to .6-.7ish! is that normal!?
its running non sequential
hks filters
cat back exhaust
any help apreciated :WaveBye
What ECU are you running?
as far as i know its standard lol, stupid i know but its how the car came, im going to go have a look for the ecu today and see if it really is standard....not too sure where it is and what the standard unit looks like though!!!
its is the passenger foot well on the left hand side. If its an Apexi it will be an Apexi badge on there.
Right did you do the non seq conversion? because thats your problem, running a stock ECU on non seq is a no no, you will have a big rich spot at the begining of the stock map and at where transition used to be, as non seq the spool is later in the rpm range, you really need an Apexi ECU and have it mapped, the Apexi has a non seq option so gets rid of the transition problem.
0.7 BAR is stock boost anymore its spiking due to the cat back exhaust
so if its got an apexi ill just need it mapped to sort these problems out?
yeah i stupidly did the non seq myself after taking advice off another fd owner, then broke 2 nozzles off the pre control solenoids (why make them out of plastic?!?!) and cant source another set to replace so now im stuck with non seq!!! lol
ill go have a look in a sec, thanks for the help :)
Yes getting mapped will sort the richness out.
Try Tim at Rx Motors or Ross at Dragon for solenoids.
For a daily driven FD you want the nice low down grunt of seq personally, non seq mod is sometimes done to hide a Rats nest problem or a bodge
Does the non-seq have its benefits for more linear torque curve? drifting? Track days etc?
One of the pro\'s for me is a couple of extra mpg..
Still deciding what to do really, as I\'ve got to sort out a boost problem soon.
Personally its like cutting off the lower part of your power and torque curve, people do say its easier to drive on track as they dont have the worry of the second turbo cutting in at 4500rpm, but I have driven both , rode in both, mapped both, and the seq cars were much faster, espcially coming out of turns
yep seq is much better and TBH my mpg has gone to around 9 since making it non seq!
i only did it as i was told its much nicer to drive blah blah blah - totally regret it now though.
yep as i suspected it looks like its on the standard ECU
thanks for your help blitzboy
No worries give Ross at Dragon a ring he is based in Exeter, he will have Apexis and solinoids in stock and he is quite good at mapping as he has the fastest Rotary in Europe lol

Lol. (fair point)
Cheers for the advice guys, if it doesnt effect the final power outcome and just saps low end torque then I\'ll just fix my boost back up to 0.8 bar.. What can I do to reduce the effects of the 4000rpm switch over? I\'ve heard better earthing can help?
Also Mark, a bit off topic but how do you go about setting ign. timing (off dyno) on the PFC? Fuelling is fairly straightforward with a wideband but I\'m just trying to find a safe/reliable method of mapping ign. timing..
na earthing wont do jack, you can play about with the settings in the datalogit to smooth the transition but you will still feel the the second one coming online.
All depends on your ports Ben for timing, I have values that I use for different port types and split timing, I cant devulge those on here , but to say you dont gain much by advancing the timing is very true, better to err on the safe side.
