Title: Clutch - 6 puck or twin plate
Post by: leeroy_25 on October 13, 2008, 08:08:45 PM
Guy\'s been looking at clutches.. I am only planning to run up to around 450 bhp but gather I need an upgrade. I have seen you can pick up 6 puck clutches at a pretty good price. Will these be an absolute nightmare for driving around town? i.e. two on and off? what other options do I have for this sort of power/torque band?
Thank you
Lee

If you\'ve got the money then I can recommend the Exedy Hyper Carbon Dcore twin plate. Almost stock feel and not too noisy either.

I cannot afford an new OS giken.. if someone has a good secondhand one possibly!
Karl try looking on ebay USA if you don\'t mind an on off clutch! Ithere are plenty of 6 puck ones on there at a good prices. Depending on what power you want to run they also have some heavy duty single plates. If you end up getting a 6 puck let me know as I may have to go that route purely for cost!

I got mine from Whifbitz... As far as I know it\'s the ACT 6 Puck Unsprung clutch, not the Street/Strip one... like this one http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/zx3-hdr6.htm

Hi.. I was recommended the XTD 3 stage 6 puck sprung clutch by a dude in NZ who builds rotarys for street, drag and track use. he says he has used a few of them and they are a pretty good feel for a six puck and you cannot get another clutch close on price.. I have looked and they seem very reasonable! if they do what they say on the tin you are laughing. Think I might take a punt on one! Same about the current exchange rate though! Bring back 2USD:1GBP!!

here is the link:
Item number: 200266141394

Let me know what you reckon.

OKay guy\'s I finally fitted my new clutch! See this link:
http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?p=556917#post556917

I used an XTD stage 3 clutch I as recommended by a rotary specialist in New Zealand. The clutch came from USA via ebay and was a bargain!

Best bit is I drove it out of the garage and it is very close to stock feel! okay a little bit heavier and slightly more bite but nothing like I expected!
I would definately recommend this to anyone looking for one, especially if it holds up a rated!

looks good, what kind of torque can it handle, i still havent got one sorted, have been talking with some one in auz that can offer a twin plate with pull to push kit for around £600 i think it was.

what was the final price you paid for it and did you get stung with tax\'s etc??

Hi There, I can\'t remember the torque rating off hand. there is a link to the ebay add in my other post about fitting rear oil seals. or just type XTD stage 3 rx7 in ebay worldwide.. I didn\'t get stung for tax fortunately this time! So depends on current exchange rate what is comes to.. But it was a bargain!!
