Heres a question who is on the lowest salary and manages to afford to run the rx with no help from mummy and daddy?
are u all insane?>
I mean its going to cost a ton a week once its insured isnt it? 5 k a year al least?
What? Most people on here are grown ups and don\'t get their parents to run their cars.
and 5k run run a car? Are you on crack? £100 a week?
5k to run? ive got an fd and my other halfs got a skyline and between us it dosent even cost 4k for the both of them for the lot for the year inc insurance
What does this have to do with balls anyways?
I\'ll be lucky if I fill up with petrol more than ince a month and that\'s £70 a time....nowhere near £5K/year to run these things.
haha...well I reckon all in my rex does cost me £100 per week!
But that\'s for mot, tax, fuel, servicing etc......I guess at least 60% is fuel cost as I do a few miles.....cant stop driving it! haha :D
Well my rex costs me £200 a month just sat outside doing nothing. Then add in fuel and servicing bits then i know it gets a lot more.
I work for the NHS so hardly on a large salary :rollin

I work for the NHS aswell :D
it prob costs me about £600 a year to run the rex !!

Ditto
£1k for both insured fully comp (mirror no claims, her policy :Thumbsup!)
Hers is a daily driver 30 miles a day to be a hotel recieption, and i still use the same amount of fuel as her only on the weekends :spank
5k to run a car a year is not that much !

Mine is a lot more as got a loan to pay off that i bought the car with. If i didn\'t have that then it would only be the insurance to pay a month before i used it. looking forward to that :D 4 1/2 years to go :(
Adam
Well, so far mine has cost me in excess of £5K in less than 5 months but that does include an engine re-build and suspension/polybush mods and even on my salary RX7 ownership gives me a kick in the fork that makes my eyes water on several occasions, still once its sorted I guess insurance and fuel will run to £3K plus a year. Only advantage is the road tax renewal this month at £120 a year but that will go tits up when I eventually do the LS3 transplant.
i\'m budgeting about 5k once i get it insured...
£120 a month insurance + mot + tax. i think i might use a tank a month? won\'t know until i start driving it as i only intend to do about 5000 miles a year (or less). my salary isn\'t great but it isn\'t bad, below the London average.
the only \'help\' i get is being allowed to live at home for a bit of rent!
i think it all depends weather you use it as a daily driver or not. i heard on the radio the other day that the RAC reckon it cost motorist on average 6K a year to run a car.
when i had my rex on the road it was costing my around £200 a month for it to just sit on the drive like you adam. and a tank a petrol a month, i would use a tank at the weekend easy
i suppose it all depends on how old you are in comparison to how much its going to cost you.
hummm quick calcs for mine
Mot - £25
Tax - £120
Insurance - £220
so thats £365 before it turns a wheel
then i do about 700-800 miles a year - so thats 4 tanks for juice @ £50 a pop - so thats £200 ish
so yeah about £550 a year based on nothing breaking on it :D
Grinder, where the hell do you get your MOT\'s done mate?? they are aproaching £50 down here now!! I know the tax........ you jammy git!! 185 for me on that & insurance is 450.
£685.00 Plus fuel & general broken bits!!! engine this year :)
But I can garantee that if we are working on work salary..... I would win this competition :(
Jono
i wish my mum n dad payed to run my cars lol... kinda stupid pointless thread tho, surprised i never posted it :D
Well i spend at least 60 quid a week on petrol = 180 miles tops,
insurance 20 quid a week so theres 80.
fixing it has cost me on average inc engine has cost me say 4k over last 2 years
so 40 a week there
= 120 a week
mot and servicing , tuning
10 quid a week =
130 squid a week
buying it. 6500k
100 quid a week isnt off the mark at all, if you actually use the thing and dont have it as an ornament on the drive.... is it really????
6750 quid a year, not inc buying it has been my personal experience. but i do like to go out on, late night country lane missions.
its mad how this pointless thread has attracted the most attention lol
also the above apart from petrol is conservative
just think also if it blows up and its off the road half a year the rebuild is almost paying for itself in fuel savings that is the biggest outgoing.
We need lpg

I like your logic on that one
i spend about a tank of fuel a week (daily driver LOL) so about £80, call it £100 if I go for a blat at the weekend...
Tax is due soon at £180
Have spent in excess of £5000 this year on bills alone... hopefully that should slow down now, spent the same last year... (haven\'t even touched the engine yet - seems to be the only good thing on it LOL)
(touches wood)

Jesus, i knew I saw your car at J\'s a lot, dude, and often thought you\'ve similar luck to mine, but it\'s bl00dy identical! I coulda just crossed your name out and put mine at the top of your post, save me the effort of typing it out! We\'ve gotta get Jason\'s voodoo car efigy collection off him, for the sake of our wallets!
Mine was working out nice and cheap (2nd car so tank of fuel a month) but then it went pop a few weeks back...
Looking at your £5k thinking this year thus... :(
I probably use around £70 of fuel at weekends. Only around £20 or so during the week, as I have another car for going to & from work.
Insurance is £40 a month. And I like to be regular with the oil & filter changes (around £25 a pop) and fairly regular with the spark plugs too £44 a time.
But all in all, I\'ve never gone short of money & I certainly wouldn\'t expect my parents to pay for anything.
Apart from the £7000 i have spent on getting it rebuilt and and other bits ive had done in the last 6months it now costs me
£40 per week on fuel
£100 per month on insurance
£180 per month loan for the car.
And i really dont get payed alot it is a struggle every month but i shall sell my body before i sell my Rex :Giggle:Giggle
You want to try having four on the go.....
Student,, no regular income just random temp work and have had two FD3s no help from the rents
I reckon, sorry, HOPE that 2008 will be the most expensive year for mine. Will have set me back over £10k including buying, insuring, rebuilding, new turbos (which it turns out I didn\'t really need) and all the other little bits.
Hopefully next year, insurance will drop with me turning 25, engine won\'t need rebuilding again, and well the fuel is never an issue for me, nothing else makes me as happy per litre.
Looking forward to 2009. :)
I\'ve just read that over and £10k? I must be mad. Could have put a deposit on another house/apartment for that!

its a mate of a mates rates :D :D - so im not complaining - but a normal MOT place is about £40 up here - so not tooo shabby i suppose
worked mine out this morning, with repayments £3,000 per year, Insurance £700 per year, Tax £100ish for 6 months, Fuel £1,000 (3,000miles) service/mot £250. that\'s about £100 a week plus all the parts I have added this year approx £2,500! works out at £145 a week:eek
and the last 2 months been surviving on one wage plus statory sick pay for the misses!!
As I work in sales my wages yoyo especially in this climate.
The total bill for me is going to be well over 10k this year. Plus another 4 k to get it where I want next year. O well least if brought a house I would be even more annoyed LOL
And iv only driven it for 6 months.
QuoteTax is due soon at £180
Ouch, you poor thing. My TR6 costs me that, not the Rex tho, as would be the case with a lot of members IMHO.
Insurance £350, and you can get MOTs for £30 in MK with free 10 day retest, although the Rex always goes to sicknote.
Everything\'s relative. When I was earning (haven\'t worked in over 400 days, finally got off my bum and have an interview tomorrow - wish me luck!) then I was spending, and two crashes at the Ring two years running did add up. I think in the 5 years I\'ve had that car I\'ve probably spent £22k on it including the original purchase price of £10k. And that doesn\'t including ANY consumables, no fuel, insurance, tax, rubber, etc....
How come you pay tax on a 1973 car? I thought that would of been tax exempt?
Just to add my 2p to this thread. Personally I think it\'s not really about balls as you put it, it\'s more a case of if you want something bad enough then you\'ll find a way. In this case, how badly do you want an rx7, to the extent of sacrafising what other things.
For me it\'s gotten harder to run a track/project/weekend car as i\'ve got older, infact if it wasnt one of my business\'s I doubt i\'d even own one. Not for reasons of money but more purely of time and priorities. When I was in my early 20\'s it was no problem, all my money went pointless things, such as bodykits, boost controllers, exhausts etc. I\'d only need a two seater car as the only thing that would frequent the passenger seat was some random slag from week to week.
It\'s a decade or so later, im married, got a one year old son, two business\'s and f*ck all time to take a p1ss in piece let alone go for a spin in a sports car.
Having said that, after all the grief i\'ve taken off the missus etc for it, I still own an RX7.................... Now thats balls!!
I earn sh1tloads a year, but I do have very big balls. :D Totally irrelevant to the real topic of this thread, but I just thought I\'d share that with you :rollin:rollin

QuoteHow come you pay tax on a 1973 car? I thought that would of been tax exempt?
I was originally looking for a TR6 as old as me, 1972 vintage. But the one I fell for was registered in May 1973, and only cars registered before the end of January 1973 get tax free status.
