Title: Wheel hop...
Post by: RedRummy on October 11, 2008, 08:37:44 PM
Sometimes, when I\'m pulling away pretty quickly I get wheel hop where the rear wheels skip up and down while spinning...

Is there anything I can do to the suspension setup or tyres to avoid this?

I\'ve got a brand new set of Tein Super Streets, brand new Eagle F1 tyres and a stock diff.

Are the tyres just too damn sticky ? :chat

doubt it has anything to do with tires, are your bushes all up to date, or maybe bracing. Have you set up your teins correctly

Bushes check out OK i think... just has to replace a few. Not sure if Teins are set up right to be honest.  What is a good setting to have them on?

hmmm, never considered that... would the hopping damage the diff eventually?

might try a diff brace - what other effects would a brace have?

yeah wheel hop will eventually damage your diff because its shaking around... diff brace will eliminate that

Softer rear suspension and lower rear tyre pressures also help eliminate wheel hop

strange, don\'t think my Teins are set up that hard at the back.  Hop seems to come more from the left hand side than the right - would this point towards bad bushes?

What size wheels you use, 18 will tramp more then 17s, yes shagged bushes will cause it to hop, you need to change these otherwise it will be bye bye diff, get a diff brace once you done the bushes

change the top rear arm bushes as they have front to back give to allow for rear toe and this makes the most difference (doing all off them is best if you can).

wheels are 17", not sure on the state of the bushes (is it only top rear arm bushes affected here?)

will look into getting a diff brace.

thx

yep defo sounds like ya bushes are shagged, the difference in driving an FD with new bushes is night and day

LOL people said that to me before I bought my Teins, but still not happy with the ride quality.
I used to have solid engine mounts too, but now have nice soft ones...

Car still feels dangerous at speed.

I have replaced a few bushes, can\'t remember which ones off the top of my head...  guess its back for more work  :(

:(

Had this with my white FD, inspected the rear of the car and the bushes were knackered didnt have a chance to change them as my car famously went up in flames in 2006

I get loads of rear end furking-aboutage atm cos of my powerplant frame being broke :(. Especially when pulling away or at high rev gear changes if I\'m crap on the clutch. Maybe worth investigating if you\'re getting bushes looked at, I know the PPF breaking is fairly common. And your car seems just as lucky as mine......
