Title: engine temp
Post by: davyv on October 10, 2008, 12:24:40 AM
Anyone know what water temp difference there is with a good fm intercooler (Apexi gt)  with and without the aircon rad on. I am just putting it all back together and am not sure if i want the aircon rad or not.
The car will have a large single turbo so i want the best cooling poss, thanks.

I think it depends on the angles of the 3 rads and ducting but in general the difference would be minimal, with / without the aircon rad. If your going to be large single turbo id make the car light as poss,

i dont run air con, i have windows

On my single I have greddy front mount, with unknown rad (thick ally one though) and aircon.  The water temp is more controlled at a steady 82 degrees than my twin fd with v mount.

The greddy is front mounted, the rad is upright position (but slightly angled downward a couple of degrees) and the aircon heat exchanger is in the stock position.

Hope that helps.

I run an Apexi GT FMIC with a Koyo N-flo Rad, both in the upright position. I can tell that without the aircon condensor I see temps of about 82-84 degrees C.

I\'m also thinking of re-fitting the air-con condensor and think that I might need to get a new thermostat so that it opens a bit earlier, to help keep the engine cool.

However I think I may get a vented bonnet first to see if that helps.

Are you not getting mixed up with the airpump?  You need blanking plates for removal of airpump, and removing the airpump does free up a couple of hp.

I think weight plays a part when removing the a/c, the pump is quite heavy and leave a nice big hole to allow a bit more air flow. Also the less restrictions the better for the rad and I/C IMHO

Ac pump is below the Ps pump, 2 or 3 bolts to remove pump along with pipework, condensor and core in the cabin.

Echo that about fmic, I don\'t see any increase in water temps - may be a diff story on track but I haven\'t even added any ducting around the rad yet... (Hks gt core with fwin rad).
