Hello All.
There\'s been a bit of talk amongst some of the members of late about staging another North V South Dyno Day.
For those who haven\'t heard about these bhp battles,here\'s a little background guff.
We\'ve successfully done two of these so far, with Gurj having organised the first and myself the second.
The Northern Team won the first and the South completely tranced the north in round two:evillaugh
The second event was featured in Japenese Performance which was a great bit of publicity for the rotary cause..
Its sort of turned into a bit of a yearly event and has been held at Thor Racing nr Birmingham. This venue seems well postioned for both north and south as its sort of in the middle of the country. If anyone else has a location in mind just say.
Its not all about 500 horse FD\'S flexing their muscle, all other Mazda rotaries are more than welcome.
The dyno day usually happens on a saturday and takes till late afternoon to run all the cars. It takes about half n hour to bolt the car onto the hubs and do the run,so numbers are limited for each team. Will check with Pete at Thor and see how many cars we can run and the cost per car, thats if we get enough interest of course.
This will be based on a first come, first served basis with a reserves list per team,in the event of anyone dropping out.
I\'m more than happy to organise this event and handle all monies etc etc.
So if your interested please put your name below and the team you\'d like to champion.
Cheers
Pete
How are the "scores" worked out, just out of interest? Is it an average of total horsepower divided by the number of cars on each team, or just the highest total, or biggest individual power, or wot? Cos if it\'s any sort of average, no-ones gonna want my old crap-heap letting their side down:Giggle!
I\'d be interested even just to come along for the craic though. Be great to get a magazine to cover it, esecially after the recent utter lack of coverage they\'re giving the rotary scene. Show \'em what we\'re all about!:yes
Total bhp divided by the amount of cars per team, thats why we should have equal numbers.
Should have said spectators are more than welcome, the more the merrier.
Not sure if we could get another magazine interested as the last event was in JP earlier this year.
This sounds cool. I\'d be well up for it, i\'m dying to know what my motor is puttin out! :D
of course, i would be representin us lot "oop north"
I\'d love to do this again :D Just need to wait till Kev has his engine dropped in and tuned to a reasonable level. Give us Up north a fighting chance with Pete, Blitz, Warthog and others from down south !
Shaun
what kind of date are we talking here?? i would be up for it, but i don\'t have a engine in at the minute with a lot of work planned :D
Date depends on you guys mainly and when Thor can fit us in. Usually takes a couple of months to finalise all the details.
Sounds like good fun will just have to wait for the date till see if i can make it
ok, a couple of months and we will be into christmas and bad weather but im easy, all depends on how i get on with the car over the winter.
Quote from: karl_tate;542281ok, a couple of months and we will be into christmas and bad weather but im easy, all depends on how i get on with the car over the winter.
Sorry, but what has the weather got to do with it?
just some people may not want to travel, plus it gets dark early and with quite a few people there, which im sure there will be, i dont think they will want to stand outside thor looking at cars and chatting etc like i have seen in the previous events.
like i said, it doesn\'t bother me at all.
Maybe plan it to be in the 1st half of 2009. Good meet to get the year off with a bang :Giggle
Shaun
April/May???
april/may 2009 sounds good pete.
ill be up for it and i might even have my car ready for this one:spank

Gives me a chance to get the boost turned up :Giggle

That\'d give me time to sort mine out too. Spring sounds good to me.

Freudian slip? :Giggle
I\'d be up for this too :yes
I\'ll be up for this, date dependant. As shaun said would be a good way to kick off the 2009 show season :)
If it is April/May time then that might give me time to get my engine sorted so i\'d be up for this as haven\'t done it before :D
Adam
I up for an April date, May is a no no for me
Im willing to help the south regain our title! Different car though.
count me in for the south...the new special engine will be in by then
Good! Glad people are interested and by the looks of things we\'ll have some new faces and cars present..
So its looking good for April then??
Will get onto Thor and get some info together..:yes
COME ON THE SOUTH.....:Thumbsup!
Ill be up for this as my car should be ready by then, its haveing a errrr bit of work dun ? ;)
Pete,
Can I join in too along with the guys "in the North".
Thanks
Chris

Too early to say really as i don\'t know whether Thor have put their prices up from last year, but if we max out then we should get a reasonable deal.

Blimey that didn\'t take long to fill all the spaces Tried to get Thor to up the amount of cars we could run in a day,but they\'re not having it,so we are stuck at 16.
The only fair of doing it is to have equal numbers from MRC and FD/UK,so thats 8 each.
Or if the numbers still grow to have two events. An MRC North vs South seperately to the FD/UK competition.
If the MRC can field 12/14 cars that\'ll be enough to secure the max discount from Thor.
What do you think guys??
All weekends in April 2009 are free atm, does anyone have any early preferences?
£45 plus VAT = £52.88 per car. Securing deposit will be needed at some point.

To save disappointment and to cut out the reserves list completely, does anyone mind if we change the venue to WGT? Plus Pip is prepared to do it for £40 per car.
I know some of the southerners will have to travel a little further, but i think its the best option for all of us.
Cheers to Matt for doing the detective work.
We have 19 cars listed between the two forums, that means we\'ve got space for another 3 cars! Anyone else interested???
sorry mate think i will have to pull out. Thats a 450mile round trip bit to far for me
Thanks

Nothings been confirmed at this very early stage yet Lee. If i get more people worried about the mileage,i\'ll keep it the way it was.

ok mate will make a decision when final details are confirmed
if it went to pips i would pull out to as it would make it the same distance as lee for me too. keep us posted.
We chose Thor originally as it was more central, is there any where else that more central that anyone know of ??
Not Noble\'s as that place was very poor :Hammer
be a bit too far for me as well, lets keep it a Thor
Need some more feed back from you guys please?
Do we keep the event central at Thor or go to WGT?
Cheers
WGT is closer to me, but Thor was a good location for all. Plus the viewing area was very good.
Shaun
Looking on Yell there could also be :
http://www.automotivator.co.uk/dynodynamics.htm - Birmingham
http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/rollingroad.html -Manchester
http://www.rollingroadregister.com/two-wheel-drive-rolling-roads.php - Interesting !
Shaun
Doesn\'t make a lot of difference to me either way so whatever the majority want. The first one in Shaun\'s list looks like it may be worth a look as well and being Birmingham is nice and central just off the M6 so easy to get to and being on a industrial estate noise won\'t be such a issue as the owners of the estate Thor are on where getting a bit uptight about db levels last time.
Kevin
I could see it being even louder this year :Giggle
"Are you sure you closed the doors ??" was the best question from last year :Giggle
Shaun
WGT is also closer to me but im not fussed either way, looks like it would be a long way for the people in the south if it were to be at WGT.
the rolling road register is an interesting site shaun, good find.
do you get an AFR read out at thor, i carnt remember
WGT is closer for me, but I\'m happy to travel to a more central location to make it fair for both North & South entrants.
Chris
I\'m up for it. My car might do well for a standard turbos category.
Quote from: russellparkerx;563390I\'m up for it. My car might do well for a standard turbos category.
You\'ll need to cut n paste your name at the bottom of the reserves list on the revised list higher up his page please. We don\'t have standard power cats\' only north v south. Probably best to read through the descripton on the first page of this sticky.
I should start organising this..
Can everyone on the original final list please either pm me or post on this thread confirming yes or no..
Cheers.
tentative yes depending on where your going to do it
Well only 6 people bothered voting on the poll and Thor came out the most popular so it be held there..
And ive got a mate that works at Thor ;)
Sounds like another gandy fish and chip run coming up, lol.

Is there a date decided for this yet?
Lovely. Hopefully the same chippy :D
Shaun
A saturday in April to be decided..
Im still up for this but only as long as my car is ready, i have a long way to go yet.
is this only open to fd\'s?
d\'oh. wont have fc on road by then :(
just thinking, wouldnt it be better to calculate the BHP by the amount over stock bhp.
ie stock \'92 fd = 255bhp (read that from autocar mag from back in 1991), dyno = 300 then bhp increase is 45bhp so get 45 points.
jap stock fd = 280bhp, dyno = 350bhp so get 70 points etc etc
do this for each car then divide by no of cars.
think this would be more fair than just the total bhp for south / north.
just a thought :)
(c\'mon south!!) :Giggle
Yes I\'m still going, either venue for me.
Chris

It isn\'t just for FD\'s. There is at least one cosmo running this year and last year Alan with a 12a turbo FB was part of the north !
There is another thread with a list of runners with backups !
Shaun

Just spoke to THOR and ALL weekends are availble in April:Thumbs-up So which wknd please?????
I know its difficult for some of you to give me a definate yes or no due to weither your cars are ready or not,but this does effect the price per car on the dyno day.
Eight cars minimum would mean you\'ll be paying £60 each.
Fill the day with 16 cars and that drags the price down to £45 per car.
Anyone else interested who\'s not on the list add your name as a reserve or pm me please.
All rotors welcome, this day is not just for big bhp FD\'s..

Godamn f****** ****! ****! Another top day out knackered cos of my stupid ****ing shiftwork ***ing pattern! ****!
 Going to sulk now :2Mad
By the looks of things most of the entrants cars won\'t be ready by April and all the suggested dates seem to conflict somewhere along the line.
So we\'ve all got to come up with another plan. Do we rearrange for May or maybe June??
I don\'t mind either way,but it sems a little fairer for the majority who can\'t do April.
Let us know your thoughts please.
cough ....June cough ;)
Happy to change if it means more people can attened. The more the merrier i think :D
Adam
I wont be around in May as I have the PTM show at Pod, plus Vegas end of May and Barbados in June then Jap Show end of June.
So I would have to pull out im afraid.
I have no life so May or June is fine with me ;)

This is a sad state of affairs, only 4 confirmed out of the 11 listed:( Quite a few of us seem to be struggling with the time scale,so i think its only fair to re-arrange the date for later in the year to give more peeps more of a chance to run, well hopefully anyway.
I\'d just like to say sorry to the guys who\'ve actually got running cars atm (lucky sods) and were looking forward to the day,but i\'m sure it\'ll happen in a few of months time.
Really no point going ahead with the april date as betweem the MRC and FDUK we\'ve only just got enough cars too hire Thor at the half day/8 car rates. Might as well wait and get 16 cars up n running and make a really good day of it.:yes
Will check in with everyone listed in a month and see how we are all doing.
Cheers
Pete
To give this a push for Pete, as we have done in the past MRC will reimburse every MRC Full Club member who attends this event £20,
And I am sure that even if you have a stock car but want a day out also finding out what your car produces you will be made welcome,
Surprised this has not had more takers as it can be a real fun day out
The car is hopefully being mapped on the dyno next thursday so if all goes well will be ready anytime after that Pete
Thanks
Lee
Build on my car is continuing and I am aiming to be road worthy by the end of April.
I am still interested in this dyno day and will be happy to come along to a different date.
